I like Sean Payton- he’s obviously a talented coach and a great football mind. However…getting him here doesn’t solve much of the built-in problems in this organization. This soft and entitled culture cannot be fixed until the Jones FO changes its meddling ways and empowers rather than limits what their head coach can do with discipline and a toughness needed here.

Hiring Sean Payton without major changes in how this organization works is just another sales job- a new coat of paint on the Titanic. We are supposed to believe that the 7th new HC trying things “Jerry’s way” is the lucky dice roll.

As Cowboys fans, we are so used to having “desperate hope”- the kind kind of hope where you have to ignore or underplay all the evidence that shows us why we can’t advance very far in the playoffs.

He don’t…he’s a smart man. He will never coach in Dallas as long as Jerry and Jethro are running the show..

Every nfl front office, every nfl analysis, every former nfl player, every former cowboys player would tell you that comparing MM to Payton isn't even fair. Payton was one of the top 5 coaches in sports and will be in the HOF, the only HOF MM will be in is maybe the Burger King HOF..asking this question isn't fair to Payton.

I answered your question. Dysfunctional organization or not, it’s still a (well paying) job.

It's not a correct answer though. We don't buy players to come here. We over pay our own. We don't pay top dollar for a head coach either.

There's a lure toward the Dallas Cowboys that has nothing to do with money.

Which coaches have come here for spotlight? The lure you are talking about faded a long time ago. Any shine this franchise had has been stained by Jerry’s mismanagement of personnel decisions (coaching staff and player contracts alike) post-Jimmy. We are still media darlings, yes. Lots of pre-NFL football players want to be Cowboys because they grew up as Cowboys fans (since we likely have the biggest “fan base” of any NFL team), not necessarily because we are a franchise with a non-monetary lure. Otherwise we’d have superstar Free Agents taking discounts to play for Dallas.

Even if Jerry doesn’t pay HCs “top dollar”, Mike is earning more here than sitting on his couch (obviously) or working as a coordinator elsewhere. That’s the actual lure.

Okay. There's no point in going any further with you.

Enjoy your NFL world where the Cowboys have no mystique.

Thank you for backing out. I enjoy discussions with people that like to explain why they think a certain way. Seems like you’re not willing to do that in this thread.

Sure its just speculation right now, instead lets talk about our playoff game this weekend.

Oh wait..............nevermind
I understand but I’m more interested in discussing actual events and repercussions as a result.

Once a coaching decision is or not made there will be ample time to discuss. I’d be more interested in discussing our current coaches situations. Something more in reality . And why we aren’t playing this weekend . In most likelihood McCarthy is going to remain as our HC. Until there’s sound information to the contrary I’m shooting it all down .

Spinning speculation based on info that is common knowledge isn’t what I’d describe as insight but more of a hopeful grasp without anything more than coincidental and or circumstantial evidence at best. We can’t even confirm the rumors from 2019.

At the risk of another Payton thread, I am a little confused by all of this Payton love.

Just how does he make this team better? Do you think he gets more control than the other coaches not named Johnson or Parcells?

If not for the Saints defense, they're picking in the top 5 and maybe he's sticking around instead of running from the mess he's made.

He was far more dependent on Brees than Belichick was on Brady.

If you get the chance to watch that Rams-Saints playoff game, the no call PI game, pay close attention to the end of that game and the plays being called. If not for that ref snafu, that's all people are talking about and that was all that Buck and Aikman were talking about. Aikman was flabbergasted. It was really dumb play calling.

Do you really think Payton is the guy to turn this into a deep run playoff team? Why? Because he's done that in the past? Didn't Parcells and McCarthy do that too?

The last thing this team needs to be giving is giving up 1st round draft picks because those are the only ones they are consistent with and this team needs talent as much as it needs a HC, probably more so.

Don't worry Couch, i doubt your Payton thread gets moved and "merged " like mine did .lol

Like your Payton, I attempted to bring a Peyton vs McCarthy comparisons ,which I think is a fair one to discuss, imo.

- Both HC's have Super Bowl winning resume and credentials,

- Both considered well regarded offensive minds and pass oriented mentalities,..

- Both have had access and phenom success to QB Hall of Famers – en route to SB wins

- Both have had past struggles with their respective defensive unit and DC’s

1) The big difference between the two HCs in that defensive task, has been since Payton brought DC Dennis Allen on, they've been able to maintain very good defensive success,
whereas McCarthy kept on his longtime buddy Dom Caper to wretched stretches to where it cost them playoffs and underachieving seasons.

2) And QB relationships, Payton apparently had a terrific relationship with Brees, .whereas MM butted heads with Rodgers - en route to his exit firing in GB.

Sean Payton is an offensive genius and future HOF coach. He is on par with Bill Walsh and Andy Reid. Not only could he come here and design an offense that might actually work with the limitations of our QB, but he would command the respect of the locker room. Players would bring their A game more often.

But more so than that, Sean Payton isn't afraid of Jerry Jones or in awe of the opportunity to coach the Cowboys. If he came here, it would be on his terms many of which would certainly curb Jerry's influence.
Do you really think Booger is going to allow anyone to curb his influence on his team? He did that once, never again. Coaching his Cowboys is always on his terms.

He made a deal with Parcels and, for a time, Parcels had control over the roster. He's even more desperate now to win, he loves Sean Payton, and has referred to him as "the one who got away". I don't see any problem on Jerry's side letting Sean take over the reigns at this point. Booger is still an egomaniac but he also knows he is running out of time to get back to a super bowl.

It would be a D4K haters worst nightmare if Sean Payton becomes our HC. The haters are probably hoping this never happens because they know how much he would improve our offense.

The one absolute we can always count on is this front office will always have a great sales presentation before each season, lol.
PT Barnum was always his best pitchman for his attractions. And just like PT Barnum, our PT Booger, loves that part of his job. In fact, that is his job.

And I do not think he is being a phony pitchman. He's such a half glass full person that it just comes naturally to sell the sizzle.

That's not just what he does, it is who he is.

I envision Booger sitting on the edge of the bed on his wedding night telling his bride how good it's going to be for so long that he had to wake her when it was time to consummate the marriage.

That was to get the stadium deal done and the real reason this team has the highest value.

ac, I think he fears someone else being successful with his team and was pleased Parcells failed and let that slip put when being recorded. With Garrett and even McC, he doesn't give up credit but with Payton he runs that risk.

It's like the difference between him and his friend and owner of the Rams, Kronke. Kronke wants a ring and he wants it on his homefield and doesn't care who gets credit. I think the credit is the only thing that matters to Booger. I think that is still an open wound from his days with Jimmy Johnson.

I think his response to that question "where's Jimmy?" with "still looking for his 3rd ring" haunts him because he knows if he stays, he probably has a 4th ring. But what really haunts him is that he knows without what Johnson did, he probably has to sell the team just like Bright did. He isn't responsible for his own success, another man is. I think over time, the money has lost some of its importance and the ego has just grown and is more needy.

Think about those five years. He comes in and fires Landry and catches all of the heat while Johnson as Landry's replacement catches none. And there was a lot of personal heat because he moved into Highland Park, Landry's habitat. Then comes the Emmitt deal and there are to be taken seriously death threats against Booger and after the second game he signs him but it "slips out" that Jimmy was the one that forced his hand to get Emmitt on the team. Booger catches heat for trying to keep his expenses down while Jimmy is once again the hero. Booger is known as the brash one yet Jimmy's guarantee to beat the Niners is the brash deed of the year in the NFL and still talked about. And Jimmy is still better liked than Booger in Dallas.

Men do not grow out of childhood; they grow into larger children.

Well for one he can coach offense and the QB. Our number one priority has to be Dak, like it or not. That’s what I thought Mike was too but apparently he doesn’t want to do that.

Two, the return of the screen pass. NO has always been awesome at that.

Three, he uses his weapons all over the field.

Four, he’s a disciple of Bill and uses the same concepts etc that he learned from him, meaning don’t eat the cheese, mouse traps, etc etc.
