Why I Think Next Season Looks Promising

The talent on this team and the defensive growth makes me optimistic for next season. Yes there are some pieces likely to leave in free agency but sans Schultz, Gregory, Gallup, and Kearse most are role players. Besides Schultz

It's important we have a good draft, but the season outcome will largely depend on how this staff cleans up sloppiness and finds a more consistent running game.

We've been hearing that every year for 2 and a half decades. I don't know how they keep selling the hopium that 'next year will be different'.

We have the exact same coaching staff, but we're going to have talent that gets poached. With our approach to free agency and a mediocre draft position, I don't know what's to get excited about next year.

You had me dreaming about you being right. But then I remembered the last 26 years and who's still running things. Then I awoke from this dream-back to reality.

Nice post. I can get on board with those bullet points. The Jones boys and McClay have a lot of work ahead so this upcoming season doesn’t begin to take the shape of a “lame duck” season for McCarthy and the team.

If the Cowboys begin to stumble early, the muffled whispers of “lame duck” season will begin to get noticeably loud.
Thanks man. Not sure Jerry puts up with a lame duck season on the heels of this season's disappointment. Might lead to a shake up. Would they shake hard enough though?

Way too early for any optimism. Need to see how the draft and free agency plays out.
Indeed. Why the rush? Let's wait how our Draft Office performs this year and who's gonna leave. THEN we'll have something to talk about.

I dunno if I want to go to the super bowl only to get embarrassed on national TV. No games against Tom Brady or Arod doesn't make this team better. Just creates more fool's gold. The only games I care about next year are against good teams. That will tell us where we are at....

Most normal folk are optimistic early. Makes it more enjoyable. Hope.

I have been optimistic for 26 years that homers like you will one day be able to understand football but it hasn’t worked yet

OL? Sign me up... I think we need OL more than any other position, and it aint even close.
I have the Cowboys app so I watch all of the different podcasts... I heard multiple times between all of the podcasts (and I totally agree) we really need a solid veteran from FA to take over LG. Not someone from the draft. If we want to draft a center, great. Give Tyler some competition. Maybe that will help him step up his game.

1st - Kellen Moore, yeah that's right, I said it. This dude is still very young in terms of coaching experience. He turtled up when the big boys took the gloves off but he'll learn and he'll evolve. I bet he comes back with a vengence next year.

2nd - Dak, he'll be the main benefactor of Kellen's growth. I also think that leg hampered him more than we know, so the much needed rest should help.

3rd - We can't keep force feeding Zeke can we? Tony has out played him for 2 years. We gotta give him the rock. Or is management trying to make sure his 2nd contract is affordable? I can't imagine any other reason to not have him touch the rock more. I think it happens next year.

4th - Our schedulde (of course things change year to year). It didn't look tough before Brady retired, but now the Bucs aren't so scary. Does Rodgers leave GB too? If he ends up in Denver that's 2 HOF QBs we get to dodge.

Does it all add to a playoff victory or 2? Who knows, but I'm cautiously optimistic.

Just my random thoughts while I wait for 5 oclock on what has been a far too busy day in the office.

Hope springs eternal that's the spirit!

Off season is too long to be realistic. :);)

You don't suck when you lead the league in points scored. However, your take does suck.

... although it really helps the "misleading " stats-pats when you have such weak sistas in the NFC East division... ala two 50 burgers per Wash, Philly

Where was that lead league points scored in the 2nd half of the season such as the AFC West teams we played ... or Arizona ... or the Niners in the playoffs ?

Will is usually pretty solid w/ the draft.Hopefully that continues this year because we will lose some solid players.

That solid veteran LG in FA is gonna be a cheap bargain dollar store type, and barely decent .... that's just the way of Stephen Jones who strongly prefers the " Money Ball " approach.

He only wants to use the cap to re-sign key core players,. and go dollar store bargain hunting.

We won't ever get the key FA vets such as Trey Hendricks per Cincy, ..Tyranny Mathieu per KC Chiefs ..

I am optimistic as well. However, you could have said exactly the same things about last year.

The thing that makes me optimistic is the return of Quinn and the continuing development of the defense.

If we have a draft that focuses on rebuilding the OL and DL's, I'll be a lot more optimistic.

I applaud your ability to remain optimistic.

Unfortunately, I fear you are only going to run into the wall of reality more severely. Please wear appropriate protective devices.

That's what fantasy football and participation trophies have done to society.

Boasting about points scored when they couldn't get out of their own way except against teams that were mailing it in.

How many backup QBs did they beat up on again?

Bottom line is the Dak/Moore combo....and plan to feature him (which I'm sure Jerry is fully on board with) is a bad one.

In order to use Dak properly, one has to understand exactly what he is....and I dont think anyone with any power in this organization realizes that.
