Yeah I agree that'll be a tough pill to swallow but it looks like after 2023 his cap number will be manageable and after 2024 we can cut him with little loss. Why I feel that is a pill I'm willing to swallow cuz a manageable 2024 and beyond means we will be free of deam money and more likely to resign Diggs and Parsons. If I understand it correctly. Not gonna lie some of you guys are better with the salaries than I am so if I'm wrong let me know.

I dont profess to know anything about the dark arts of NFL bonus', however, how i'd describe the effects of this deal:
- we get the CAP relief 2022 (free up $13m)
- 2023 CAP still reduced from previous $29m down to 26.
- there's now the realistic ability to restructure in 2023, if necessary as his CAP in 2024 is just 16m
- there's the safety valve of the Void year in 2025.....however only use that in times of desperation - *Red Alert* - we are already taking a $21.8m Void CAP hit in 2025 to pay Dak NOT to play for us.

I am one of those that worried about the 2022 and 2023 CAP ever since Dak's contract was signed. The CAP issue was real, however, we've hit the jackpot here as Tank has taken one for the team and now can at least spend an additional ($15, after draft monies), this could well increase with a similar arrangement with La'el (I imagine that's why we shopped him...."nobody wants you La'el? about a restructure") and depending on the draft Schultz as well.

Kudos to Stephen for at least working with the player, not capitulating, playing hard ball nor being intransience towards negotiating.

DOUBLE Kudos to Tank, he took the sensible option that benefitted both himself (guaranteeing him money) and team (and us fans)....it also shows that he wants to play for us, which is priceless.

I'm confused as well I don't recall seeing a guy who had Lawrence's contract just up and sign a 3 year 30 million dollar deal....he had a few years left on his deal didn't he?
He took a guaranteed $ 30 mil instead of no guarantee $ , next year his cap is 26 mil he is in effect here for 2 more seasons, to me it's just another bad move from Jerry shoving money down the road for a guy that doesn't show up many games and another Jerry's guy gets paid again. Stupid is as stupid does and the FO is really stupid. To me he will make $40 mil for 2 years another win for DL and it says Jerry thinks this is a SB team, sad just sad.

Yeah . . . maybe but i am still confused with the numbers Archer is reporting

2022 14 million
2023 26 million
2024 16 million

That's 56 million

It should be
2022 6 million
2023 18 million
2024 13 million - 16 million
You forgot the dead money from his last contract that still needs to count against the cap, to me this is a 2 year $40 mil deal maybe 3 if they push $ down the road again next year.

How is it shoving money down the road if his CAP figure is reduced by a total of $16m over two years. It'll mean we aren't cutting Tank in 2023 and have the flexibility to restructure into 2024.

I hold my hands up that I was in team Gregory, this contract has change my position, ...i'm also a CAP Worrier but just tearing down and starting again just means you've a totally new roster without good veteran presence, you become the Jags/Jets/Lions.

True, but he needs to earn his pay.

When you hand out these kind of contracts & guaranteed money, you have no leverage. It was the best option for the team given the situation.

But its all wasted money if he isn't a difference maker on the field.

True, however, this season he needs to earn a manageable $14m and not the $27m (or whatever we were on the hook for). His value to the team should also be linked to the improvement (over preplacement) both for himself and the players that are brought in due to his restructure.

On first glance 2023 looks more of a concern and yes it is in effect guarantees he's still here however there is still leverage with the lowish 2024 guaranteed money ($16m) and if desperate the 2025 Void year.

On his previous contract we needed him to be the difference maker, he's now being paid as a team player, holding down his edge, allowing Micah and out and out edge rusher to cause damage.

I feel a lot happier now than I did 24 hrs ago.

I'm assuming this mean cap relief, which is great. Also, I know ppl don't like him, but Dlaw has been far and away the best player on our D for years, up until last year. When he did finally play last year, he made a ton of plays. This is really good news for next year's defense.
Defense is is better when he’s on the field. One of the better all around DE’s in the game.Deal gives us a little more flexibility to do some things.

How much better have the Cowboys been the last 25 years, the Jags were in the CCG a few years ago as were the Jets, that leaves the Cowboys on par with the Lions, great company, Paying a guy who isn't a impact player is just another bad move that keeps him here for a few more seasons of missed games and underachieving a hallmark of a Jerry built team and we like our guys player. Jerry will sign some washed up players and the team will still be the same but Jerry will just keep spinning the greatness of his roster that beats up on losing teams and disappears against good ones. Every year there's a scape goat who will 2022's be. Jerry believes every season his team is built to win a SB, delusional is a understatement of Jerry's view and the proof is the last 25 years of the same BS.

Hope it works out but his effort & attitude haven't endeared him to me. Fear all we have done is put guaranteed cash in his pocket & we'll get the same or less going forward.

All we have effectively done is delay everything by a year. If production is not there in 2022 we will be right back where we started.
Not convinced this deal is the right move long-term.

I would have paid him more in 2022 so I have the option to get out of the deal at the end of next season. Obviously that would reduce the savings available for this year, but I want that 'out' option in 12 months

I think once you wade through all the salary cap stuff. It's essentially a 2 year 15m per year deal. We have the option to keep him a 3rd year for 10m.

But we wouldn't have a better player (for the new money), especially as there's not expected to be a good DE at 24 and in any case we'll probably go O-Line.

The reason it works is that keep a good player at a more reasonable price in 2022 and frees up money.

Like him or not the harsh reality was that we had a CAP issue and this is appears to be a decent resolution....I've heard a couple of complaints but no practical alternative??

If you think the Coop and Tank moves, coupled with the probable 'go if you can get better' attitude towards La'el and Gregory are a same ole, same ole attitude then I feel you do like to wallow in discontentment.
There's now a strategy and at last we are balancing football roster with CAP considerations.

You want an out option, but accepting a decline as without the restructure we are struggling for CAP, players and DLaw in 2022... if you're willing to tank in 2022 then that would have been an option, but in reality we haven't got the players to bring back draft picks in a trade (eg Coop, Tank, poss La'el) so we"d get rid of CAP to do what.... rebuild in the draft and money left to .....spend on the very expensive FA'S we're have been getting rid off.

By shoving the cap down the road for players who don't produce, same old same old. I can't believe folks are buying into the old line of Jerry's snake oil. Can't wait until the next bargain basement washed player is signed.

What inparticular are you complaining about .....you appear just unhappy with everything.
