If Dallas can shore up the offensive line and get a run game going, with their D, they can be dangerous. That's all I'm hoping for.

They have to be able to run the ball.Pass 1st O hasn’t worked vs. better competition.

We drafted Dak in the 4th round with Romo, why not spend a mid round pick at least, we have 4 - 5ths.
Im always asking this question, and usually crickets...
Not you, just saying in general reference.
This draft isnt being considered very deep at QB, so if another average Dak where to fall, I would take him in the 5th all day and get excellent value out of his first contract.
If you think back to that time, Romos health was in serious question and they were actively looking for his eventual replacement.

I think they thought they were ahead of that at the time, but that ended up to not be the case.

That said.....I agree with the philosophy, but I don't think the team does. They love those late round DBs that they can run out there and applaud themselves over.....meanwhile a developmental QB or a kicker would likely be a much better gamble.

In hindsight I don't think the last draft class was that deep. You had the one stand out and maybe Mac Jones. Sometimes it's the least expected that stand out. Look at Mills on Houston. He's looking fairly decent on a trash team. Who knows how he'll turn out? Better than a lot of high round picks.

in essence, build a team like SF....except the OC is not committed to the run and abandons it at earliest sign of struggle instead of adjusting

Dak is not smart enough to play in today’s league.

Stop giving him authority to change the play at the line.

Tell him his #1 and # 2 read. If not there, run.

Gotta keep it simple.
That's exactly what McVay was doing with Goff and Shanahan was doing with Jimmy G. That's why those coaches wanted to move on from those QBs. Dak not only isn't smart enough but he isn't talented enough to make tight window throws. Whens the last time we saw him throw a quick slant into traffic low and away from the defender and the WR is sliding and catching. He doesnt use ball placement.

There are no Dak haters just Cowboy lovers!!!

There was not a bigger anti-Dak ( do not sign him) guy then me.
The issue is the front office as it always is.
-There is no cap hell, as all of it can be kicked down the road, the cap rises over 10 million a year since 2011, look it up.
-This team was not signing any free agents when Dak was making 500K a year.
-Coaching problems go all the way back to Spring owner's meetings in 1994. Jerry says 500 coaches could take the Cowboys to a SB.
-Since the last SB we have had good teams in 2007,2009,2014,2018 & 2021- To me 2007 was far and away the best team, followed by 2009 & 2014.
-Dak is an average QB, always has been always will be. Not a world beater, in the same league as Jimmy G, Cousins type, Goff, Wentz. These guys need everything to go right and they can bus drive their way to playoff success. They are not elite, never will be. The mistake was the Cowboys like usual not realizing that you don't overpay a good QB.
The dumbest part was they saw it unfold infront of their own eyes.
-Minnesota overpays Cousins, Eagles pay Wentz, Niners pay Jimmy G, Rams overpay Goff. All of these contracts are terrible and the team regrets from day1, on a similar not the Ravens had to hold their nose and play Flacco but at least they won a SB.

This is a systemic issue from the beginning. The FO is basically using a fax machine while the league has moved to gig ethernet wifi. They are overmatched, league gets younger smarter, more innovative , less risk averse.
This ownership group just doesn't even understand what the other teams are doing. Its like ignorance is bliss.
How do you teach Charlie Munger what Bitcoin is? Warren Buffett never understood Apple, Amazon, Microsoft. At least Buffett and Munger are geniuses. Now imagine teaching a homeless idiot the same things I listed above.
It's pointless, this team will do what it does until we have a change up top. There is no hope for this organization. They thing they know it all but really the Emperor has no clothes.
I just read a few lines of the post, but I did read a enough to read your opinion on the salary cap. If you keep pushing those contracts over more years, it doesn’t matter is the cap rises. That 10 million increase will not help the team at all because they won’t see the increase because it goes towards players contracts that have been pushed down the road. Usually those players are old and they are at the end of there career or maybe they have retired, but they are still hitting the cap hard because of the restructured contracts. Restructured contracts can take up the cap increases and even it’s like the cap increase never happened at all.

In 2021 we were 2-0 when Elliott rushed for 100 yards. We were 10-5 when he didn’t. Dak missed one of the wins.

In 2020 we were 2-0 when Elliott rushed for 100 yards. 4-10 when he didn’t . Note Dak was out 11 games. We were 2-3 with Dak starting .

in 2019 we were 6-1 when Elliott rushed for 100 yards. 2-7 when he didn’t.

In 2018 we were 6-1 when Elliott rushed for 100 yards. 5-4 when he didn’t.

In 2017 we were 4-1 when Elliott rushed for 100 yards . 5-6 when he didn’t. Note he was suspended for 6 games.

In 2016 we were 6-1 when Elliott rushed for 100 yards. We were 7-2 when he didn’t.

Cowboys are 33 - 30 when Elliott doesn’t rush for 100 yards which includes the 11 games Dak was out in 2020 (which we went 4-10) and 6 games Elliott was suspended in 2017. We are 26-4 when he rushes for 100 yards.

Prescott has a 53-32 regular season career record.

If you subtract the 11 games he missed in 2020, the one game last year and 6 games Elliott was suspended in 2017 , Prescott has basically been about .500 in his career when Elliott doesn’t rush for 100 yards based on our 26-4 record when Elliott rushes for 100 yards.

Dak made all of those decisions, including signing himself to an extension?

Seems to me that's the handiwork of two men who have produced 3 playoff wins in the last 25 years.

Thread should have been closed after this reply.

I have finally figured out the hate for Dak. It's not about the money, although the terrible tearful claim that is the case. Dallas has lost players to free agency since it was created.

This phenomenon of the longest cryfest using Dak as the focal point comes from Romo fans who have never gotten past Dak replacing him.

I would have loved to see Romo come in and take the reins from the Eagles game through the play-offs. Although teams playing Dallas would have been head hunting Romo because he had become Mr. Glass.

Than transition belongs to Jerry Jones and his son. So does the contract that is blamed for the people exiting the club now.

But this harangue by so many fans, and the continuing tantrum over money is illogical since Dallas watched players like Ken Norton and others leave after Emmitt got paid the most for a RB in the league.

I have been a fan of this team since the first year. I can deal with the drought, because it will eventually turn around.

But this vitriol from fans in every thread whining like little girls with skinned knees just takes the fun out of this.

Dallas is the home of the worst fans in the game now.
