So "they're" saying that the Cowboys are having a horrible off season

‘Throwing in the towel’ is quitting. Walking away. Giving up. Like Rockport did. And he was the biggest rah rah cheerleader in the place.

Take note that all of the people being critical of the team are still here, taking time out of their lives to do so. That’s the opposite of ‘throwing in the towel’.

Poor Rock. The kid gave it everything he had but at the end of the day it was just too much to overcome. To get pounded like he did day after day and yet keep coming back was "Rocky" like admirable. I sincerely hope he has found something better to do with the time and energy that he used to expend in here. Life's too short. Here's to Rockport, his new hobbies and his new lease on life.

The lessen here of course, is this: Under the Joneses, the Cowboys should always be a hobby and never a passion...like they used to be.

If we all emotionally invest ourselves like Rock did...the Joneses will sap the life out of us too.

Safeties: they resigned Hooker, not Wilson who isn’t a free agent yet.

Oh really let's take a look...
1. Resigned Defensive Coordinator Dan Quinn = Win
2. Reworked Lawrence's contract = Win
3. Franchised Schultz because they had to because of Jarwin's injury = Win
4. Got rid of a penalty feast of an O-line in Connor Williams = Win
5. Resigned a two solid safeties in Wilson and Kearse = Win
6. Traded Cooper who is injured a lot, disappears in road games, and they save cap space = Win
7. Let a headcase in Gregory walk who get more offside penalties than sacks =Win
8. Restructured both Dak Prescott and Zack Martin's contracts to save 22 million in cap space =Win
9. Let go of an aging kicker who misses a lot of chip shots = Win
So if this is a horrible off season then I'd love to see what a good offseason looks like because so far they've made a lot of changes for the better.
It doesn't matter what they do this off season. As long as Dak is QB the ceiling is the division.

I don't like the FO, I don't like some players and they don't know how to build a team. I just don't understand why some say next season is already dead and we've had the worse off season in the NFL. To me, It's illogical to throw in the towel already. Why is it so hard for some to make logical decisions? We all know they're going to be watching the games like the rest of us, so why watch if you think next year is more of the same?
It's like a watching a train go down the tracks and you know the tracks are broken and you just can't turn and walk away without watching.

Numbers 4 and 6-9 are all just dumping salary cap space. If they aren’t acquiring equal/superior talent with that space, what is the benefit of having it? It won’t suit up in September.
Might can argue that on 6 but 9 missed plenty of kicks and Dallas will likely be better there for replacing him.
GZ made 83% of his kicks and 87.5% of his XP, the second ofr which is just hilariously bad.
Fans were begging for his release.

Cooper is a good player and I think he drew a lot of coverage but raw stats say he was targeted the exact same amount as Schultz last year and produced the same number of TDs and all of 55 more receiving yards.
20M a year was rich for Cooper and why he wasn't more coveted in the trade market.
Many fans felt Cooper would be released and we 'd get nothing.

Devante and Tyreek drew far more return but they (are definitely better) also weren't yet hitting the cap with large deals. That allowed the bidding team to create the structure and have lower year 1 cap hits.

Amari Cooper is far closer to Jarvis Landry than Tyreek Hill.

The problem is that Cooper's contract was pretty fair for any team acquiring him. And as we saw, Cleveland promptly restructured him, giving them cap space, etc.

Jerry and Stephen got taken to the cleaners on Cooper. But that's nothing new. They aren't the best at trades.

wow, didn't realize PAT was 87%....that's horrendous.....we would probably get more points going for 2 each time.

Especially when they announce to the world that they’ll cut him if they can’t ‘get anything’ for him in a trade. That sort of hurts your bargaining position.

I guess it depends on your perspective. The bottom line about this offseason is that the team lost 5-6 starters and have done little to nothing to replace them with anything other than scrubs. Reworking contracts of overpaid players only serves to push their salary down the road which means they will count against the salary cap a lot longer than the player will be productive. There is nothing worse than sinking more money into a player that should be cut, but the team has to keep him because of the cap hit. Franchise tagging Schultz is another case of paying elite money to a good player. The truth about these big contracts is that they were bad contracts to start with and extending them or spreading out the salary cap hit is not improvement, it’s doubling down on bad decisions. You may have a point with the kicker position, but until they find a decent replacement, it is not a positive move. They are a long ways from having a decent offseason at this point, but they can improve it, depending on how they replace the starters lost.

They reality is some GMs can work trades and some just can't. Jerry can't. Then look at a guy like Howie Roseman who turns Wentz into a bunch of picks, including a first rounder. But on the flipside, Howie ain't exactly the best drafter where we seem to be at least somewhat competent there.

Cooper is going to have 1,100 yards and 10 TDs this season with Watson throwing him passes.

They will treat him like the #1 receiver that he is.

This

Jerry said today that they wanted to use Coopers money elsewhere. Where did they use it? I’m not a Cooper fan but he saved Dak when he joined the team and made Ds stay honest. I hope our guys now step up but gaining cap to hold onto it isn’t a win.
It’s hilarious how the opinions of Cooper changed after they traded him. He was wonderful and Dak’s savior until Jerry said that he wasn’t. There is no need to bash Cooper. It was the Cowboys that overpayed him and gave him that big contract.

Why does offensive guard have to be a 1st round draft need gut anyone? Of the major impact positions in the NFL, guard isn’t one of ‘em.
Guard becomes a 1st round need when they can’t develop guards picked in the later rounds and they refuse to sign decent free agents. Guard becomes a huge need when they can’t run or protect the QB with the guards on the roster.

Guy gets attacked for believing?

To those that don't believe why watch the games? Why cheer for this team? Why log on to Cowboyzone to chat with us real fans? Normally when people don't believe in something they stay away from people that do.

I believe I'm going to love this team no matter what. I believe I'm going to follow this team no matter what. I can't control what the FO does all I can control is my response. I'm not a Jones fan, but I am a Cowboys fan.
If you are a true Cowboys fan, you should be outraged by what this organization has become. A lot of us don’t like the Cowboys being the punchline of jokes and we don’t mind who knows it. Dallas has become the new Cleveland Browns of the league and we don’t like it.

Not only that, Jerry is publicly announcing their draft intentions. You know, just in case anyone wasn’t sure. If you want a top offensive lineman, trade up past #24…

At this juncture of the offseason Jerry and Stephen should be gagged and tied up in a closet to keep them quiet . . . :muttley:

Then they’re doing it wrong internally. Using yet another 1st round pick on a guard doesn’t fix that internal problem.
