How about Josh Ball?

Ok I am looking for glimmers of hope. How about Josh Ball? Slipped to the 4th round because of some off field incidents. Guy would have been drafted much higher. Red shirt mostly last year and he seemed to behave himself. His off field stuff was pretty bad so thankfully he seems to have matured. Maybe he’s in the process of maturing. My working theory is that they let Collins go because they are high on Ball not Steele. To me Steele is at best a swing tackle. I don’t see him as a 17 game starter but more as a quality backup. Maybe I am wrong. Ball has a much higher ceiling. Hence I believe G is going to be one of the top 2 picks.

Anyone have a feeling or inside scoop on Ball? Am I wrong?

perhaps, but how can Ball step in day 1 and take over? He hasn't played

Anyone's guess at this point. Perhaps he can contribute and get some minutes and eventually man a position. Perhaps he flames out and is a wasted pick.

Hoping we get a good dose of him in the preseason as our OL future is precarious at best.

Ball arguably doesn’t deserve a spot on this roster. The offensive line needs serious improvement, & not only do his off-the-field actions reflect poorly (very violent) on the organization, but he has no play to show for himself.

Picked in the 4th round because of the off the field stuff.

Which means he should at least be given a shot a swing tackle.

I realize no one wants to count on that but let's be real....how do you scour this roster....or any roster for that matter and want zero question marks?

This guy needs to be given a shot as a 4th round pick on a draft only to improve team. Period.

He is another Reggie Robinson for all I know but if they want to keep up the 'we draft well' mantra, the team needs to actually pick players that can actually contribute....not just sell it that way.

Yeah the off field stuff was pretty bad. Especially in his case. None of us know the particulars and the league seems keyed up to avoid that garbage. Hence I am going to believe they did the due diligence. This guy was a 4 star recruit at Florida St so the talent is there. Plus he is huge.

Learn more about the player not the off field stuff. As a player this guy was a stud. You are off here.

Ball's big issue is he played at Marshall after leaving Florida St. so the talent level he played against was not the same, so he probably looked good against Marshall level talent but he may be a tad behind the curve against the upper echelon talents outside Conference USA

Wow, a few posters acting like he killed someone.
From what I read it was one incident that was not really completely proven, or blown out of proportion.

unless I am missing something. If so provide a link.

He transferred to get a new start somewhere else. He could have stayed but chose not to.

now that’s real hope

Same path as Randy Moss and how did that end up going? Not saying he is a Randy Moss, anyway positions are different. But can we wait and at least have a look see first?

I always heard, one gets wiser with age. But I think that does not apply with this FO.

So 23 minutes older, but none the wiser. :muttley:

- Steele has actually played (and started) a number of games ,.. Josh Ball has not
- Steele is already game experienced at the NFL level,.. Ball has zero experience at all. .
- Steele has already put his display onto the playing field ..Ball has yet to do so.

- Remember that Cowboys were also high on Chaz Green to spend a 3rd round pick on him as his final year at Florida, a i believe i read
his college profile as not surrendering a sack and played across the line.

- Imo, scouting profile, physical tools and draft round projection sounds encouraging on paper, but its' all about what happens when players have to translate it to the playing field.
Ball is an unknown... until he proves otherwise.

No idea why you would respond in a confrontational manner.

If you like Ball, I didn't disagree.

Steele was a UFA. Ball was a 4 star recruit at Florida State. Ball committed a serious crime and still got drafted in the 4th round. Clearly others see that.
