Is there an actual plan for this season?

For the [MISGUIDED] among us that are thinking TANK., **Jerruh Wayne Jones will be [80yrs.] old this October, and more than anything in the world, he would love to win another [SB] before the good lord calls him home.. TIME IS OF THE ESSENCE and the one thing that even a man as RICH as Jerry can't buy with all of his BILLIONS is [TIME]. If Jerry was perhaps 10 to 15 yrs. younger, maybe I'd buy the "tanking" idea, but unfortunately that is not a realistic option. Their plan is [WIN THE DRAFT]., then perhaps pick up a free agent or two afterwards to fill in holes later..

It also requires a level of forward thinking not typically demonstrated by this FO.

I will be totally shocked if Sean Payton is ever the HC here. He’s a real NFL HC who would expect to have the kind of authority Jerry hasn’t given a HC in nearly 20 years. Unless there are MAJOR changes at the top of this organization Sean Payton isn’t coming to Big D.

Yep, I agree Bob. But I still think Payton has to be included in the head coaching conversation even if it really is just between Quinn and Moore.

Just sounds more of an interesting sales pitch scenario for Jerry if Payton is in the pool as well.

Like even if Payton personally and publicly denied any interest he probably still would be mentioned as a candidate.

Wink, lol.

That Jerry.

You said draft AND FA. So what names in FA would improve what we had last year (and in some cases lost this off-season)?

We could improve with just the draft. Not worrying about FA now until after the draft. Need to look at what holes remain.

personally I don’t think he spends on much after the draft anyway.

Not sure if we have a plan but I sure wish they'd plan to give Stephen the boot . . .

The plan is this:
Taking a full rewatching of the 49er playoff game and the offensive letdown for the running game and the offense's downward spiral in the second half.Denver,KC,first three Qs of the AZ games.......

Aging well paid players were not willing and able to step up in crunch time to make up for the under-disclosed leg injuries to both Zeke and Pollard.

Front-running with explosive wins against Wash and resting Philadelphia masked offensive woes that appeared when confronted with a hot, hot, hot SF team that won 9 of 11,while thrashing GB on the road down the stretch including a 17 point comeback against the Rams and short of an easy to catch interception was going to beat them again. So the dominant Rams won a 3 point NFC Championship to a team that squeaked out a 6 point win with the ball on the 24 in Dallas.

The players who made clutch plays at the end of the 9er game include Schultz(38 yd.catch and run).LVE(massive third down solo stop) and Dak Prescott, two drive in the final 5:00,they are all on the roster today.

The top teams in the NFC Tampa Bay,LA,GB,SF and Yes Dallas were hair-width even all season and the 12-5 Cowboys decided to remove players, that they could, who did not produce in the clutch and replace them with cheaper hungrier rookies and young guys. They decided to clean out contracts that were not efficient uses of salary cap money.

That is the off season plan. This explains the personnel moves of Cooper, Collins,Gregory,C.Williams, Ced Wilson. The contract rework for Tank Lawrence. Allowing certain players to walk.

As much as we would like to believe we are expert in knowing the Cowboys needs, they see the players in the lockerroom,in the classroom, and in OTAs we do not. They know who is doing the little things that bring palyoff victory against hot teams late in the year.

yes, there absolutley is a plan....its not a plan for winning championships, but there defintley is a plan, its called maximizing profits....

Jerry & stephen tihinking: so lets not spend big in FA, get a bunch of JAGs to get to 53 on one year deal, hope we draft well, tell the world I am drafting an OG in first round, raise ticket prices based on 12-5 record last year, reduced cash output, stay quiet and not say much all off season......if we end up doing well, we will say that we knew and liked our guys all along, if we do bad, I will say, I am making changes, we don't stand for this and we have to be better for our fans, sign one big name FA and sell hope again... two years from now win the division and raise ticket prices again. .rinse, repeat,

That is exactly it. People say they're bad at what they do. They are not. They're doing exactly what they want to do. That is the plan.

Good post. For once ....and it's as much attributed to CAP pressures in 2022 (and 23) as by strategic design, we appear to have made a stand rather than the usual kick the can exercise.
I like the idea of getting the draftee's to step up and making an onfield assessment.
I wonder how we utilise the $20m CAP, once we've filled sone of those needs in the draft.
If this season's a disaster then it's a cheap(ish) rebuild in 2023, if the youngsters work out we've got a fairly decent young roster to build on

I actually believe there is a plan.
They now have a functional defense, which is enough because in todays NFL with new rules and modern offenses, there’s no such thing as a defense that shuts offenses down.

I believe the plan is to build up the OLine, get back to running the ball and play action passing. That’s been the historical recipe for success throughout the history of the Cowboys.

Or simply stop conversing w/ the wrong people.
OR dont reply to my posts

im not conversing with anyone..im throwing out facts..not human spends 50 years around football, 31 years in the FO of a 10nillion dollars sports franchise and learns nothing..they may not be top GM FO set in the nfl but for sure not the worst..sorry your hate goggles are the issue not my common sense goggles..

all gms, owners and coaches make mistakes all of them they made many the first 5 years post jimmy but the last decade has shown to be at least in the top half of football not the bottom half..cant blame all the post season failures on them players, refs, and coaches have contributed far more in these losses then the lack of talent. Sorry ist fact.,

than this offseason they try and purge the knuckleheads creating many of the issues we had last year and this place loses its minds..sorry..fans emotions are the issue. Get passed it ..

As in life, the answer lies somewhere in the middle....which strangely enough where our team presently is (between aging expensive contracts and decent rookies).
We just need that one person to bring balance to the star.
We really need some outside control as even when they attempt a new approach (which I honestly think they are trying with this reset) the Jones are still criticised for doing "same ole, same ole".
They have lost the fanbase, and no amount of shiny pieces or spin is going to change that
