Lamar Jackson is playing under the 5th year option. He has COMPLETED 4 full seasons and no extension. IM not 100% sure the reason why. The way the cap is increasing along with these new QB deals, it could be his agent thinking playing under the 5th year option is not a bad deal since Lamar is going to get a **** ton of money on his new deal.

with the exception of the true STARS, Sure... the no brainer superstars..... but there is obviously some friction going on in Az with Kyler.

Oddly enough, Jackson has refused negotiations. You can look it up, it's bizarre. He's focused on winning, or he doesn't think he deserves a contract. Truly bizarre.

It's not about them as much as the price to play with the QB. Is Carr worth 41.5M a year?

These teams have two options, grow their own like the Jets and Browns have been doing or do what the Browns finally did, pony up for a more proven player. The Broncos decided to go back to that vet well a second time.

Murray is just like Prescott and Carr, he is good but is he good enough? And do they run the risk of changing and not getting as good?

The difference in Tier 1 and Tier 3 is a huge difference. I think CLE thought Mayfield is a 3 so they were willing to take the chance, same with DEN and Lock. Tier 2's are all going to get 40M a year.

Agree...... the thing is that its rare for a tier 1 qb to ever be available if you didnt draft the guy. There are always exception, like Payton Manning, but some thought his career was over. The Broncos gambled on his neck and were rewarded.

The Seahawks are just in total rebuild mode. They sucked with Wilson and decided to get a huge haul for him... and IM not totally sold on him. Will be very interesting to see how he does in Denver. He is loaded with skill position players in denver.

Carr is solid.... nothing more and yep, 40 million is now the going rate. Clearly not tier 1.
Grow their own? The jets havent had a top guy in my lifetime. Richard Todd was ok then Kenny O'Brien was solid, but basically the Jets have been struggling to find THE guy my entire life.

Browns havent had a stud QB since Bernie Kosar. Landing that guy is so damn hard and we have a guy, a guy thats ok, but surely has not proven to be THE GUY yet.

Jackson isn't an out there QB, I think the negotiations are on going within the organization, as they should be, and he is playing his role.

We were not aware the Carr deal was coming or the Mahomes deal or the Allen deal. Some clubs choose to keep their dealings private.

Prescott should have never talked because he could have put himself where Flacco did with that "everybody can get paid" nonsense. The Ravens began cutting after giving Flacco that 20M deal but he did go into that final season without a contract as his HC did.

Prescott needs to learn just because his bosses are runoff at the mouth, he should be the strong silent type. And not say stupid things and that was really stupid.

That 5th year option exercised is what sent Elliott spinning into a holdout. And according to some sources, they knew that from his agent before hand.

That 5th year on a RB can be a real difference maker in the shortest lived occupation in the game.

He held out for one reason, and one reason only. He was rolling the dice that Jerry would pay him. Every player can't do that. For him, that was an extremely smart move at the time. If you remember, Khalil Mack and Aaron Donald were going to do the same thing. They weren't waiting another year. However, I think the new CBA makes that approach all but impossible.

Honestly... hes smart. He knows he is gonna get paid HUGE MONEY and by waiting he looks GOLDEN in the eyes of the fans. Aint like he is poor, hes making like 24 million this year. Oh the horror....lol.

His contract is going to be really fun to watch and see what happens. Thing about him and Murray, they are good as long as they have that speed.... as soon as Lamar isnt the fastest guy on the field, he becomes a below avg QB. Same with Murray... except Murray is so tiny he is always a question mark at getting hurt, which he has done each of the past 2 seasons.

Well, we have a different definition of a tier 3 QB. I think Tim Tebow is tier 3, not Baker Mayfield. But that's ok.
4, Tebow was 4. I have 4 Tiers because I think I am more special.

I have the tendency to divide it into quadrants. Doesn't mean there is an equal break because I do not see 8 Tier 1's, fewer, or Tier 4's, more. And I do not see Mayfield as a strong 3.

they now get huge fines for holding out and the club doesnt have the option to NOT fine them, is that correct?

Wow, he is rolling the dice on that one because he's the top QB on my list to miss time due to injury. Hell, as skinny as he is, I do not see how he stays in the games after some of those hits on his lower legs. Murray is a more compact target.

Me personally, I take the market value contract after 3 years. If the dude gets a career ending injury while waiting, or starts to show he isn't that good, he could lose everything. But like you said, he still has that 25M.

I agree on their running. To me, it looks like Murray might be a bit better passer. But either way, neither is good enough to be a strict pocket passer.

I also think, but cannot prove, something happened to him in that season and I think I remember the play when he came down on a knee after hurdling and he acted odd and walked a little off. I think it was an "I might be human after all" epiphany to him. And he has not run the same since then.

Elliott was a wild bull of a runner and I used to watch him engage tacklers at OSU and his first 2 years in the NFL but I think the difference in the quality of the defenders caught up to him.

Dak, Cousins, Carr, Ryan, Tannehill, Mahomes....bahahha, just kidding on mahomes.

LOL!!! I actually almost spit up my beer when I saw Mahomes. I agree with you. But do you think Tannehill is that much better than Mayfield? Or Cousins? Maybe I'm just over rating Mayfield.

right now, I think Mayfield just misses way to many wide open guys and too many picks. The fact he is available and nobody is trying to get him speaks volumes. The Browns would let him go for a cup of coffee at this point.

Jackson
Herbert, could move up this season
Burrow, same as above
Carr
Wilson
Prescott
Watson
Cousins

And it fluctuates during the season. For instance, Prescott was between a 2 and 3 during this past season and depending on what team he was playing. Same with Cousins

You know what, I am going to admit defeat to a point. Hey look, if I'm doing something wrong and someone points it out, I welcome it. I think your tier 4 system is way better. I looked at it like this, top QBs tier 1, everyone else tier 2, and the QBs that shouldn't be playing in the NFL as tier 3. But the flaw in my logic is that Daniels Jones would be in the same tier as Tony Romo and Matt Stafford, tier 2. That's absurd. So I like your POV concerning QBs. But I still don't think Baker Mayfield is tier 3. That's the only place I disagree, and time will tell who is right.
