Franchise and draft apathy

The reason we are so uninterested and lethargic is that we know that no matter what the draft, no matter what the free agency period, the results will always be the same. We used to predict 8-8. Now we have to account for another game and the fact that the NFC East is so meager that the Cowboys win it every two years and then fall on their faces. Was there anything more pitiful than watching our Boys coming out of the tunnel in the SF game. It appeared as if we had 53 Craig Mortons. But in the end, it does not matter. No matter who wins or who loses, the NFL owners and the players make big money.
I hope they have a 12 and 5 result like last year. I'll take that every year.

You are what your record says you are. The Rams lost twice to the 49ers. In one game they lost by 21. The Cowboys lost by only 6 points to the 49ers. The Cowboys were favored and lost. They could have easily won that game. The bottom line is 12 and 5 is good. To say the Cowboys were not a good team is a falsehood.
I did not mention the cowboys lol.
But now that you bring it up, they were not a good team last year.
The playoffs are different , and in that wc game we saw the real cowboys.

I love the draft and this time of year in general. So do a lot of people.

But I can't remember a more apathetic and lethargic feeling among the Cowboys fan base this close to the draft.

The a creep of sameness and almost boredom surrounding this team right now. We want that new vette, but we know it's the same ole Honda Accord.

I want the center from Iowa, or the guard from A&M, but honestly, I kind of don't care what they do this year because the end results seem predetermined and inevitable. Rack up wins in a weak division and contend for the playoffs, then fall on their faces.

I hate it because, again, I generally love the draft.
I understand your feelings completely. I used to love keeping up with draft prospects and trying to figure out how they would help the Cowboys, but I stopped doing that several years ago. To repeatedly see the same mistakes being made year after year eventually wears down even lifelong Cowboy’s fans. Now the team is not only inept, but now they are cheap since Stephen has gotten more involved. It is telling when you see how fewer and fewer free agents wants to come to Dallas. Bobby Wagner said that Dallas didn’t attempt to try and work out a deal that would work for him and the team. The team acted like it was too much of an inconvenience.

You should be really happy. Winning a lot of games against teams in a terrible conference only to be exposed in the first playoff game has become the norm over the last few years.

Nothing but Negative Nancies every year. Sad.

One would think the Cowboys have had losing seasons every year for the past 6 years, but it's been quite the opposite.

Because we know how badly the offseason has gone, drafting NFL rookies won’t make up for the losses of Coop, Gregory and Collins. And no vets were adequately signed to replace them.

Let’s say the draft works out perfectly and they draft Green and Pickens (unlikely but let’s see). Those players still don’t make the team better day 1 than the end of last year. NFL Linemen take at least a year to develop. Tyron struggled his first year at times. And who knows if Pickens would stay healthy.

I’ve seen love for Christian Watson at 56 the WR from NDSU. Does anyone think some rookie from North Dakota State will make up for the loss of Cooper? Shoot I don’t even think he’d replace Cedrick Wilson. That’s just life of most rookies.

I don't get how any Cowboy fan can have apathy for the draft when the draft is the only way that we add players. I've been waiting for this since January

Really, we win against our pathetic division and lose to all the top 5 teams. Actually, get a spanking from all the top teams. In fact, we get bullied by all the top teams.
Yep...that is something to be proud about. Your glass must always be half full.

The only reason to get excited is that a good string of drafts might set you up to be good in a couple years. However, that is tempered by the history of this leadership group squandering good opportunities. So, I only see the slightest of chances that we might succeed in spite of ourselves.

The Cowboys often have good drafts. And in a few years the good players they draft and their agents take advantage of team with terrible contract extensions. Even so the draft is not management's biggest area of weakness. Jones & Son are very reluctant to sign quality FA talent and seem to shy away from trading for name players. IMO if you are going to build a quality roster with the potential for making a deep playoff run you must use all three available channels....the draft, free agency and smart trades. It is a tough business building a roster and takes sound management and a generous amount of good luck. Jones & Son seem to lack both.
This team actually drafts really well, but they negate great drafting with horrible bad 2nd contracts.

When you win 12 games you are good period.

If you played each of the 31 other teams, what do you think their record would be? I can't see it being better than say 18 - 13. That's if you average their play across last season.

The way they played over the second half of the season; I don't see them winning that many.

That level of play is just the bottom of the tier above "absolute train wrecks". It's not good football.

Thats the sad truth of average Cowboys fan base current.
Most are just happy with Division success, with hope of possible playoff win.
Feed starving people only a cheese diet, and they will eventually be happy with only cheese every meal.

I get it. Everyone who knows me, knows draft weekend is my favorite holiday. This year, I am struggling to get excited for it.

I’m not really sure why we take this dysfunctional organization football operations serious anymore . Our ownership priority isn’t winning or they’d step aside .

It is what it is. No reason to get emotionally attached anymore. It’s become just another game I watch each week cause it’s my local broadcast .

And just hope I can out live this egotistical, foolish and selfish owner .

Oh I hear you. Problem with the draft this year is there are so many needs that even a super great draft haul won''t fill all those needs, and by the time we could get more draftees there will be other needs.

Of course, that's true of any team, but we've had to deal with decades of limited playoff success, as is often noted Dallas is one of the few NFC teams not to at least get to the conference championship game, and for we fans that have been there through the 8 SB appearances it's more of a buildup of disappointment than say, the Jets or the Lions or the Browns that haven't got those multiple SB appearances and wins....

I hear that.

Try this.....if you at all believe that when Jerry is gone we will get a real HC in here with real authority, a player or two we select next weekend has a chance to be part of the next team with a chance to get past the WC round.

It's up to coaching to overcome that dilemma, something that Jerry still wants to do himself.

The main reason that nobody is excited about the draft this year is simple....the dye was already cast on our season during Free Agency. If Booger and Chuckles aren't going to get excited about Free Agency, then I'm not going to give two S's about a Draft. Especially when I know that teams that lapped us in Free Agency, will also be drafting more talent.
