Before you go saying adios, seeya wouldn't want to beya or something else along those lines, hear me out.

I have been wondering if my loss of passion for the Cowboys is just the aging process or is there something else causing that and I think I am on to it. I do not have that proprietary attachment to the Cowboys I once had.

When I became a fan, they were my team. Really MY team, I felt more than just a fan, they were mine. I had a special relationship with them and almost felt I knew them.

No owner sends the message louder or clearer that this is his team than this one. He even went so far to tell the fans if you don't like it, plop down 140M of your own money. And since then, it's only gotten worse.

Not only do he and his son spend their time telling us that this is their team but they insult my fantelligence by trying to sell their way is the way. No other owner in sports history has spent more time trying to sell lemonade and eventually it becomes an insult. Do they really think I am that stupid? Just because I am a fan?

The bragging and boastfulness of the Joneses negates any "this is my team" thinking. It's all about them.

Tex Schramm was a master marketer and he had this knack for making the Cowboy accomplishments inclusive for the fans. I can still recall the pc when he established the largest radio network in NFL history and was responsible for establishing the Dallas Cowboys as Mexico's team, as well as New Mexico and Arizona. He made it about us, the fans. He said we were the reason that happened. It was look what we did.

This detached feeling I have when I watch this team play has become the norm so it doesn't bother me as much but when I watch them play, I know I am watching someone else's team play, not mine.

I realize there is no logic or rationale attached to being a fan but that's what has happened to me, I am now a fan because I've been a fan for so long. If not for the history, I would not choose this team today.

The problem is that I do not think I will ever get that feeling back again. That this is MY team feeling. And that makes me sad because one should never outgrow their passion.

This is not a complaint thread or a bash the owner one as I do not think he did this intentionally, it just happened because he let his ego take over. And a lot of what he's been doing is trying to chase the Jimmy Johnson ghost away but along the way he took my pride of ownership of my team away from me.

it is still my favorite NFL team but it is not MY team.

The Cowboys belong to us. The Jones family is renting them. The Dallas Cowboys will outlive them all.

Wor,
it was never your team fans that think that are delusional and would need more then 140mil try 5billion....so besides the economical like posts fans make using the word WE when decrcisibig their teams well it never was. you said it

it is still my favorite NFL team

that all it ever was!!

anything more are delusional fans who believe they are part of it and somehow know more than a huge corporate ownership group with an army of employees to run it that 100% know more about running team then fanbase with keyboard and google..

but i glad you woke up and realizes being fan is al you are and all you ever should have been ie you follow it as one of your favorite teams, thats all a fans responsibility is. Watch games, debate games with other fans.

I appreciate your opinion but strongly disagree. I have been tremendously emotionally attatched to this team for over 45 yrs. I have ridden every wave it has brought me and is as much a part of my life as anything else. Its a passion and love you grow with if you have been watching as long as I have. My interest in sports as a whole has dwindled. I no longer watch baseball, Basketball or Hockey. Over the last few years I have lost my taste for the NFL in general due to things I dont agree with as well as the rule changes etc, but still never miss a Cowboys game or spend at least a part of every day coming to this site as well as others to get the latest info.
So yes I will always consider this my team. Some of us are just more invested than others.
As for the PO great post but Jerry and Co feed off of our passion. Winning a Super Bowl is extremely difficult the problem with us is there is no direction or identity. No plan in place and I dont see it changing.

and some are far too emotionally unstable to handle attachments that take patience and commitment of choosing a team to be invested in, its apparent for sure this place has lost its collective minds..75% negativity towards something you love so much, i sure how you dont treat your loved ones the same way when they make mistakes..

think about it, get back to me, take your Zoloft and we can chat more.

my opinion is most of you cant handle it I've been a Cowboys fan since 1980 and for sute its part of my dna but no way do i sound like the crazy's in here that all they do is bash the team 24-7 if that luv ill pass. Its a sports team, the expectations are insane the calling the season because the offseason isnt up to par 6 months before game 1, the impending doom and all the negativity says most of you cant handle it..

I defend this team as if its family ., I get called a Kool-Aid drinking homer but don't you defends and stand up for family or do you bash your entire family 24-7 because they aren't living up to your expectations. Chew on that bit..

IM sick of coming into whats supposed to be a Cowboy Brotherhood and it feels like enemy territory.
so yes please downgrade your fan cards so i dont have top hear the incessive whining 24-7

Something in me died with this playoff loss

I don’t know what it is. I just don’t feel the same way anymore.

The off-season developments haven’t helped either

You change names like players change jersey numbers?
I liked TexasFrog!

:laugh:I did too but there was a CowboyFrog so I wanted to differentiate. Before TF it was HoustonFrog but then I was in Chicago before coming back to the DFW area. Maybe I can let people know where it says “well known member” but not sure how people change that

That’s my greatest hope is that I can outlive Jethro Jone$.

Couch Coach’s sentiments are one which is felt by many fans who have become so frustrated in our dysfunctional ownerships intent on strangle holding football operations taking the lifeblood out of a realistic hope for more success . And a better feeling of fans ownership in belonging to something like we did growing up with one of the most recognizable as a classy ran organization which set the bar for the rest of the league and arguably all of professional sports .

It’s difficult for me to even take our toxic culture seriously anymore . It’s one huge dysfunctional organizational embarrassment that has tainted us locals when the Dallas Cowboys were a source of pride. And it’s all because of our owners intent on pursuing his fantasy and dream of being a celebrity football guy. And at age 80 he doesn’t appear willing to step aside .

Since I walked away from my season tickets at Texas Stadium after most of 4 decades which most of us did I’ve been dedicated to calling out our ownership intent and calling for fans to cease their financial support which is only means to get his narcissistic ways attention. And I’ll continue until my last breathe or his.

Some live in fantasy. Others choose reality.

In the 70s, the Cowboys were the class of the league in every possible way.

Now they're like that aging relative addicted to meth always making promises to change but unwilling to do what change requires.

They're relevant now only because of the trainwreck they are.

the "exchange" in my user name has nothing to do with (trading in the cowboys)Btw

It's a terminology I use for an outside business venture like the Stock Exchange lol.

We all know Stephen Jones is not going anywhere.

That wouldn't be the Cowboy Way LMAO

I Just wish he would improve at his job. And quit coddling and overpaying all of the players we drafted.

Drafting and contracting players earlier is vital. Waiting until you're bent over the Barrell is not cost effective.

There's just too much meat left on the bone by not using fa earlier and more effectively than we are.

We need to put more draft stock and capitol into the starting #1 and #2 te positions.
Were not ever gonna get a Gronk and Hernadez shopping undrafted players and bargain bin scrubs for 1 million. Same goes for safety. Lol
Yep, free agency has not been managed well by the Cowboy's front office.

You said you didn’t know the players as if you don’t follow the team close enough to know the roster. That’s what I took from your comment. You claim you’re still a fan but said if it wasn’t for running this board you wouldn’t even follow the team. Sounds like a contradiction to me. You make it appear you don’t care anymore. I get some of what you’re saying that you’re down on the Joneses and the organization. We all feel the same way. Everyone is frustrated with the way Jerry runs the team and the direction the Cowboys have been going the past 27 years. The fans that have truly lost their passion for the team don’t follow the Cowboys anymore. They certainly wouldn’t spend their time posting on a fan board. There’s fans that have left this board because they’ve given up on the team. I’m beyond frustrated but I’ll always care and be passionate about the Cowboys. I don’t get butterflies before games like I used to but I still look forward to them.
I look forward to football period, my last sport.

It is not the record or past couple of decades that has caused this disconnect. I went through tough times with this team before so that doesn’t affect me. Hell, I am a Razorback, I know pain.

It is how this franchise is run that has caused me to feel detached.

However, on the other side of that are the people of DC.com and The Zone that have made me feel connected. It is through our mutual affinity for our team that allowed that to happen and that is more important to me than the Cowboys.

There is also the cumulative effect of him bringing in players I do not like that has taken its toll. I can look the other way just so much.

The high point of this off season to me is Gregory being gone. Watching that jerk laugh after committing multiple penalties really affected me adversely.

You'll be back in a heartbeat if the team comes back strong by winning an SB.
I haven’t left, just not the same rah rah guy I used to be.

But I also should allow for the natural aging process in this as well. My strongest fist pump now is for only getting up once to pee in the middle of the night.

He’s made it “appear” he wouldn’t be here if he wasn’t running the board. He said he cares more about the board than the team. Practically everyone who comes here comes here because of the team. It’s a Cowboys fan board.
You missed the point of that and Jeremiah is dead on, it is the people of this board just as it was on DC.com for me. Some of these folks are very special to me.

The moderator part of it came much later. Might be hard for some to understand but that feeling that it was my team transferred to this board. This board is more important to me than the team. I feel it is partly my board and that has nothing to do with being a mod but being a member.

I can’t cook and neither can my wife. We eat out all the time. She’s so terrible in the kitchen that one time I told her I was going skeet shooting with a friend and she told me whatever I do don’t bring any home because she doesn’t know how to cook skeet. True story!
LMAO!

Funniest line ever about cooking was from Phyllis Diller. She said her cooking was so bad, the flies pitched in and fixed the screen door.

This should actually be the best week of the off season, only days before the draft.

There’s no day that gives fans more hope than draft day. The Troy Aikman's, Emmitt Smith’s, Michael Irvins and all the franchises great players were added on draft day. You never know when you’re going to draft that one player that’s going to change the course of your teams history.
