Sorry I haven’t posted any updates. I’ve completed 12 cycles of chemo. The scans I’ve had so far show no shrinkage in the tumors, but no growth either. So, I guess it’s keeping the cancer somewhat at bay. The past three weeks I’ve had horrific lower back pain, especially when I first get up in the morning. It started the morning after my last colonoscopy, so we think they strained or tore something while I was asleep. The other possibility is that the cancer has spread to my back which would not be good. I’ve got an MRI this coming Monday and a CT scan and bone scan the next day, so I should know something next week. My oncologist thinks it’s just a back issue and not the cancer. I hope she’s right. Cancer in the spine is not good news.

As far as the chemo, I’ve tolerated it very well. I get three drugs at the clinic every other Tuesday and wear a pump home for the next two days for a 4th drug. So, three days of chemo every other week. Chemo is really hard on the body. All that could change depending on next week’s scans. I’ve never gotten sick from the chemo, but I do get a little nauseated sometimes. The anti-nausea pills take care of it. I generally feel the worst the two to three days after chemo. That’s when the anti-nausea drugs and the steroids they pump through me wears off. I’m generally really tired and feel like I have a low grade flu. Overall I can’t complain. I’ll post another update after next week’s results. Thanks again for the thoughts and prayers.

Doesn't sound like an easy road, but I hope your spirits are up and you keep fighting.

Here is where it gets strange. They’ve told me since last October that the origin was colon cancer. The biopsies taken from my liver showed that. But, I’ve had two colonoscopies (one three weeks ago today) and both showed zero signs of cancer. Not even any scar tissue. My oncologist still says it’s colon cancer, but she a bit stumped. The doc that has done both colonoscopies said the cancer might have started on the outside of my colon rather on the inside, which is fairly rare. However, he also said that should’ve showed up on the CT scans and pet scan I’ve had and they’ve haven’t. So, it’s a bit of a mystery right now.

My oncologist said surgery isn’t an option since the cancer is in several areas. I have no idea if that could change but it doesn’t seem likely. And yes, I am definitely a Christian. Thanks for the prayers. It is much appreciated. I’m not scared and I’m not angry. It is what it is. You play the hand you’re dealt. I’m just glad it’s me and not my wife, daughter, or grandchildren. I’m thankful for that.

That makes a world of difference right from the get go.

This lady is going to have her church pray for our dear Christian brother. Only God knows his plans for us. Being it's "a mystery now" is a good thing. I've witnessed stage 3 & 4 cancer patients make full recoveries. ♡

Well, the scans show the pain in my back has been caused by a tumor on my spine (obviously not what I wanted to hear). Additionally, the tumors in my abdominal lining have gotten larger, so the chemo hasn’t been as effective as had been hoped. My oncologist is going to add another drug to my chemo regiment. She will also probably use radiation on the spinal tumor. If that doesn’t produce favorable results they’ll explore clinical trial possibilities, which is the last resort. Oh well, I’ll just keep on keeping on.

The tumor on my spine caused a compression fracture of my T12 vertebrae. I also have 3 bulging disks. Since I’ve never had any previous back issues, I can only assume they’re a result of the tumor. They’re probably going to radiate the spinal tumor. Thankfully the back, pain has gotten much better. How long that will last is unknown.
