Didn't Schultz himself say he needed to be a better blocker?

That's why he added five pounds, yes?

So the best way to be a better blocker is to skip OTAs? Gotcha.

NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reports Dalton Schultz is "frustrated" by a lack of progress in contract talks and refuses to attend the rest of the Cowboys' voluntary OTAs.

Franchise tagged by the team this offseason, Schultz is in line to make $10.931 million in 2022 if he can't strike a long-term deal with Dallas by July 15. Schultz, who was third among tight ends in 2021 with 78 catches and sixth with 808 yards, is ditching the rest of the team's OTAs -- perhaps a move that will jump start talks with Jerry Jones. Schultz's extension has been slow to develop while Browns TE David Njoku recently signed a four-year deal worth $56.7 million contract extension. The Cowboys will likely do whatever it takes to make their tight end happy in the coming weeks. Schultz could be the team's No. 2 target behind CeeDee Lamb in 2022.

Schultz has been with the team long enough to know that if he threatens to hold out, like Zeke did several years ago, he’ll probably end up the highest paid tight end in the league.

Well he said himself he needs to get better at blocking and thought adding five pounds would make him not whiff on his man any longer.

If I'm him I get every rep I can to work on that but history shows heading to Cabo is the way to beat Jerry. So here we are.

Not attending OTA's is not the same as holding out. My guess is that despite the frustrations he will be there for training camp, even if a deal has not been worked out.

The news media already announced this, only in a more coherent way.

Why? Because he had his best season in the NFL in 2021? He's ranked 7th. He won't be the highest paid TE. Especially not w/Dallas! He can't even block.

The Cowboys made a point this spring of drafting a TE in getting Wisconsin’s Jake Ferguson in the fourth round. Dallas also signed Indiana TE Peyton Hendershot as an undrafted free agent.

They also have Sean McKeon, Jeremy Sprinkle & Ian Bunting on the roster. Schultz will cost a fortune & with all these young bucks, don't count on him wearing a star in 2023.

Why do you keep saying this? When Lamb, Cooper and Gallup were all healthy he was clearly the 4th option. He was only the 2nd option while Gallup was hurt and Cooper was spending a lot of game time on the sidelines.

As for Mo Allie-Cox, it's easy to say he (or any other low producing TE) could do this or that IF ... but market value doesn't value that over actual production that doesn't rely on an "IF".

Again, if the Cowboys decide they have other priorities that won't allow them to pay Schultz market value, so be it. Tough decisions go with the territory. But you are acting like his market value is less than half of what facts indicate it is.

Why would the Cowboys pay a 4th option 11 million a year? Who else does that? Out of the top 10 paid tight ends name one that's the 4th option? Or 3rd even?

Have to say it...despite the contract stuff DS has been a good player here. He really grew into the roll over the years and has worked himself into a situation where he is going to get paid.

Schultz is unhappy because a deal hasn't been agreed to yet, but that's what happens when you sign away your leverage by signing the tag so quickly. He's getting paid $10.9 million this season but his days as a Cowboy are numbered.

Because Jerry figures paying him like Witten in his prime means he ought to perform like Witten in his prime.

He isnt qualified to make decisions like that, and a large part of why we don't win....but.....

I think the kid is against giving Schultz big money long term so it won't happen.

Fans in general think like they do when drafting a fantasy team, and better grab a TE and the point per catch thing before they are all gone.

If this running game doesn't get better we will see more of the same in the end, and paying Schultz is in direct conflict of fixing that.

These are voluntary workouts. His absence doesn't matter except in a PR sense. If he's serious about holding out, see if he shows up to the mandatory minicamp June 14-16. I bet he shows.

Isn't the deadline to negotiate multiyear extensions on tagged players coming up soon? I always get confused with all of the league deadlines. Maybe his boycott of voluntary workouts is trying to put last minute pressure to get Jerry to do sometime before the clock runs out.

And so it goes in Cowboys Land -- ignore the demands of the Dallas hierarchy and you're history! :omg:
Stephen is already plotting to draft a promising TE early-on in the next draft.
Somewhere, he'll be grinning widely and dancing a jig! :muttley:
He'll be takin' a money bath in '23.
