Why would the Cowboys pay a 4th option 11 million a year? Who else does that? Out of the top 10 paid tight ends name one that's the 4th option? Or 3rd even?
I didn't say they should or shouldn't. What I said was you are ridiculously understating his market value.
Read my post you responded to. I specifically said if they feel they have other priorities that won't allow them to pay Schultz, then that's just the kind of tough decisions teams have to make sometimes.
But if you need some reasons why he is valuable to the Cowboys, and letting him go would be a tough decision ...
* They have no other proven, viable option as a true receiving threat at TE
* Cooper is gone, so he very well may continue on a similar path as last year when Gallup was out and Cooper had nagging injuries. In short he may be more a 3 option now.
* Something I think you misunderstand is he doesn't just fall in the pecking order the same as one of the WR's anyway. He is not a WR. He plays more of a hybrid position. He may line up on the end of the O-line, or split out wide, or even line up as a FB. In short, it's an oversimplification to simply view him as you would any other receiver.
