In the dictionary next to "shutdown-corner" is Deion's picture. He essentially took away his coverage area from the offence in the passing game. His aversion to attacking the runner on running plays disqualifies him. Especially in his era when the run game was of more importance. Top 3 all time defensive player . . . HA! Absolutely not! !

I had no use for him prior to coming to Dallas. I mostly just knew the flashy, brash player the media reported.

After "really" seeing him play, he completely changed my mind. His abilities were just off the charts. He had to bait QB's into throwing his way. He was bored covering the best receivers on the planet.

I also disagree that he wouldn't tackle. Did he try to protect himself? absolutely. But he would do whatever the team needed him to do. The closer the game or important the situation, he would definitely get in there.

When you add in his kick returns and playing offense, I just don't see how anyone could refute that he's one of the greatest players ever and IMO the greatest CB to ever lace them up.

Piggybacking on an earlier thread, I can't even imagine watching him & Tyreek go at each other. They are the two fastest players (who could actually play football) that I have ever seen. Literally clowning world class athletes.

I say absolutely yes. Great athlete for sure. Elite speed. Great CB but I don’t see him as the best of all time. He was a pure cover guy. Literally avoided tackles and contact. Even joked about it. I think that really hurt his greatness in my opinion. One of the biggest games in his career Irvin abused him plus he got away with a couple pass interference calls. So I say yes. Great player but not the best CB. Not in the discussion in my opinion.

Legitimately locked best WR and took away half the field. One season he played dual role and had lots of offensive touches. I believe he had 50 catches one season playing for cowboys. And he was top 3 punt returner of all time IMHO

Don’t forget he played 9 years in the MLB, too.

"Overrated"?! Absolutely not. The greatest of all time at that position. Deion intercepted 53 passes (24th all time) for 1,331 yards (fourth all time) in his career. His 25.1 yards per interception return is the best in NFL history, & he’s fifth in interceptions returned for a touchdown (9).

Sanders was an eight-time Pro Bowl nominee, nine-time first-team All-Pro selection, & NFL Defensive Player of the Year in 1994. Dang turf toe made him retire.

The great Qb's of the time had no problem throwing in his direction (Troy did it all the time) and he was a liability against the run.
