I don't have the time to fully explain what Frederick did wrong on that play. For starters, he didn't fire out (semi-step and punch forward). Secondly, he stands straight up and is on his heels. He's pretty much already beat by a quick, strong and aggressive NT like seen on the gif.

So you think he could've taken a power step when the DT was on him before he could set up? smh

And most of the time, that works. Sometimes, just like with any lineman, the defender just gets a good jump. Ware was a master of that, so much so that they would call him offside at times when he wasn't. For a center, it's especially tough when a lineman jumps the snap count no matter how much he has mastered the technique.
I disagree

Absolutely. A half-step as long as you punch out with your other hand directly into the NT's facemask while you stay on your toes with good squatted leverage.

There is more to it

Center gets more help than any other line position. Unfortunately last year we had a guard who wasn't much help. Still, Biadasz actually only got pushed back 5+ yards a handful of times.
I have the patience to wait and see how Biadasz looks with both Smiths to the left. We will let the right side figure it out.

You simply don't know because you never played the position, you never experienced what Frederick went through, and you never were trained to understand how to beat from getting beat like that.

And this is precisely what I am talking about. I haven't said whether ro not I have played and quite frankly thereis no reason to believe you are an expert just because you say so.

Cause here is the thing, when people have expertise they demonstrate it. You don't in the least beyond this handwaving and fallacious argument.

That is what a power step is and I think your funny saying hands to the face is proper technique.

Yeah, I'm not saying he's the answer, but he was affected by the poor play at left guard last year. If the guard play improves and he struggles, then we can figure out what we need to do next. I am pleased that Farniok showed some ability to play center when we put him there in the preseason and that we picked up two UDFA centers in Lindstrom and Empey. We ultimately might have to do more than that, but at least there are some possible options for making sure we're OK at the position.

You simply refuse to listen. You just want to be right, even though you never plated the position. Just be quiet if you don't want to learn.

What am I not listening to? You tried to act like a power step is some sort of panacea. I addressed it. You mistake not agreeing with not listening.

I just want anyone else who is reading to get down in a stance, snap the ball and try to take a step and fire out with the off hand. What happens when you have forces on opposite sides of a center of gravity? Torque. Your way sound like an awesome way to fumble snaps.

Like I said, you don't know because you never played, much less excelled, at the Center position.

Yes, but I saw what Frederick did wrong.

I don't think I was ever arguing that Frederick didn't do anything wrong. In fact, I pointed out a couple of things I believe he did wrong.

My only points were even the best centers get beat badly at times and they can be beaten at times, like any other lineman, simply because a defender got a good jump on the snap count. I try not to judge Biadasz too harshly based on the few times he was beaten badly because 1) it happens and 2) he was beaten badly by a couple of players who make a lot of linemen look bad. I want more from him, though, than just not getting beaten badly at times, so this is a crucial year for him in proving that he's the long-term answer at center.

More comp there than we have seen in how many years.

Like I said, there is no reason for anyone to believe anyone here is an expert. But hey if you want rest on an appeal to authority with no reason or rationale behind it that's fine.

At least we're not naming a player like Phil Costa as our center and pretending we're happy with that. It's a wonder we didn't end Romo's career a lot earlier than it did.

Farniok is most definitely in the mix, put the center comp at...
Biadasz
Farniok
Lindstrom
Empey

That is one thing I have loved to have seen changed in the past few years. They used to not give a damn about their floor and only take moonshot gambles for elites.

Now they do a better job with the LCD. It's great to see.

Romo got crushed and he needed to go to Cabo.
