I know many of our fans on here have asked many times, “When is the local DFW sports media ever going to call out Jerry and this FO for its ineptitude?” Well it is happening today with the Tyron Smith’s injury and the FO’s lack of preparation or contingency plan for exactly this.

Headlines in the local newspapers and media outlets this morning:
  • “Cowboys unprepared after Smith’s Injury” (DMN)
  • “Cowboys can blame themselves for being hamstrung by Tyron Smith’s injury” (FW Star T)
Local Dallas sports radio station “The Ticket” had several commentators- Bob Sturm, Corby Davidson, Davey Lane, Norm Hitzges, and others ripping Jerry and the front office saying things like “This is embarrassing to have a front office this unprepared”, “Jerry’s optimism is not appropriate for a GM”, and “when will these guys ever learn”, etc.

The Ticket played clips of Jerry’s appearance on ESPN with Stephen A Smith and called it “flat out embarrassing”. The Ticket’s morning hosts George Dunham and Craig Miller, “The Musers” said, “Name another NFL GM who has time and is willing to do an ESPN morning show this time of year”.

I certainly hope we have a better answer for who is protecting our QBs blind side than an untested rookie who has never played a snap in pre-season as a LT or some other retread that no other NFL has even signed yet.

But this season’s success or failure once again comes down to this front office’s overly rosy outlook of best case scenarios only to have it blow two weeks before the season even starts. As Bob Sturm said cryptically today, “This guy never seems to learn anything.”

I mean I guess there is a proactive method to managing your roster and a reactive way as well, huh Bob? Cheers bro, lol

But it’s really not surprising to me anymore that we have so many fans who buy into our dysfunctional owners BS. After all we have about half of the country who buys into BS everyday. If you sell it hard enough people will buy in because they want to believe in you.

I don't know if Jerry really is that blindly optimistic. I think he flat out lied and he's done it before.

I think he's hiding negative facts in order to sell more season tickets. It's that simple.

Jerry is willing to do anything except the one thing that would increase the Cowboys chances of a SB season.

Martin to LT and McGovern to RG. I don’t see any other way to work this unless we pick someone up via trade or cut. This front office is the worst in pro football by a country mile.

I think everyone should wait till the season starts before overreacting. They’ve got cap space, draft capital and great depth in certain areas so I’m thinking they’ll go out and use some of that to acquire a starter. Yes they should’ve already done that but it’s not too late.

I don't know why no one bothers to mention it, but the Cowboys can use a TE on that side to help pass block or chip. They're going to have to do that if they don't trust the left tackle.

Yet some of our fans have no issue with Jerry being on ESPN today. Right @Dre11 . Guess I’m not the only one who found this embarrassing. Or the only one who thinks Jerry is an idiot for not being prepared.

I cut it off when I heard Jerry use the word success. What success? The value of his team? His success? As a fan I don't care about that. I care about team success.

So with all of this watch Tyler Smith start and be the first ever OL Rookie of the Year.

(I don't see this happening of course but it would be hilarious)

agree 100% Smith has been on borrowed tome for 3 years now.

Ok, but what was the alternative. Get a decent swing tackle that invariably are RT's who at a push can play LT....is that what we want??? If that's what we want then we'd wouldnt have got Eric Fisher....he's turned down 9 offers, if he want's to maximise his earnings by playing LT (and as a vet forego pre-season), he'd wait....he was never going to take a cut price offer to be a swing man (or RT).

Why get a 'swing man' in the bag, a player that's satisfied to be a swing man and would presumably give swing man performances....or sign the legit LT?

Yes, this will all depend on Fisher, if we get him then that's a MUCH BETTER scenario than paying early that's a swing man, that by the nature of the term is a second string (predominently RT) player....if you're a starting LT your back up option isnt swing tackle its RT.

You won't hear a peep from 105.3 - The Fan. They're the flagship radio station and Jerry has a tendency to fire anyone who talks negatively about him being an incompetent GM. Just ask The Ticket. They were the flagship at one time and Jerry took it away for the very reason I just mentioned.

He doesn't, and that won't change unless the team starts losing money
105.3 isn’t all sunshine and roses.

“Jerry’s optimism is not appropriate for a GM”

That one says it all for me. You can’t be a Super Fan and an effective GM at the same time. The actual job requires a clinical eye, not an emotional, wishful-thinking one.

And other GM’s are focused on their ONE JOB, not running a business empire and chasing every camera or microphone in town. The Cowboys suffer as a result.

Actually I thought about this today. If we stay put and go onto the season as is, then we will learn a lot about Dak. For instance Dak plays the best when we pound the ball, play ball control, and good defense. I guess that's true about everyone in the league but for Dak especially. If our offensive line sucks then we won't run the ball effectively. Zeke is better than his late 2021 performance but he's not good enough to compensate for a bad oline. So if defenses can stop the run with 6 then they can load up the secondary and force Dak to beat them. This will expose Dak's play one way or another. If Dak is exposed as a guy that can't read defenses well or throw receivers open then Dak is done.
What we're likely to learn, is just what Dak's medical insurance actually covers!

Agreed.
After all is not that Tyron Smith has remained healthy these last 3-4 years.
Hope for the best, but prepare for the worst.
Jerry just does the former.
