Where did I say sign the most expensive tackle? Please show me exactly where I said that. I said depth not sign the most expensive tackle. Smith goes down then it’s Ball or a 5th round project with a bad shoulder. Not even sure about Steele yet. Depth is a big problem. Take off the rose colored glasses and come to the light.
I'm not a worried about Tyler Smith as I normally would be about a rookie tackle.

Unlike most, he doesn't need a year in the weight room. He's strong, quick-footed, athletic, smart, and nasty. Sure, growing pains will be there, but I think he'll figure it out sooner than many think.

Eric Fisher has experience, but he's not much more than just a guy. Tyler may be better than him in 5 weeks.

But we'll see.

Well that sounds like a wonderful entertaining season……

Btw where you been bro?

I just don’t post as much because I’ve just had it with this team.

This off-season was very low effort by the front office and they just truly have no sense of urgency to win.

I expect a ho hum season from this team that ends with the team playing like cowards per usual.

We drafted him in the first round and the Cat shouldn't even start. Because of Tyron, now he's forced to start. God help us.

That’s probably what we’ll do and who knows Tyler could grow into it. But the better move given we don’t go out and find someone is move Steele back over . Leave Tyler at LG for now . Move McGovern to RG and Martin to RT.

Steele was a fairly reasonable backup last year than we’ve had in years with Tyron out. And Martin like Larry Allen could probably make All Pro at more than one position .

To me, this is easy. They're stacking enough cap space to pay players like Parsons and Diggs.

You think Parsons will be cheap?

He's not only the best player we've drafted in years, possibly ever, he's the new face of the franchise.

Yep, I suppose the point is that Tyler has the 'hand and feet placement issues'....but EVERY LT will have growing pains, by the very nature that they will be facing teams best pass rusher and that rushers are more advanced...EG Sam Williams (2nd Rd/ or in some mocks viewed as a 3rd Rounder) Vrs Charles Cross (elite 1st Rd LT).

The idea of plugging and playing Tyler at LG for his Rookie Season (another position of need, with the chance of him getting his feet wet inside Tyron), was a sound strategy. I dont buy the McGovern or Tyler were battling it out....it was alway Tyler's position, but wanted pre-season 'smoke and Mirrors' to reduce pressure and opposition being able to plan between a behemoth Tyler or more agile/less physical McGovern.

In reality we need 2 Tackles that could play LT (not named Steele/Ball/Waletszo (injured shoulder wont play at NFL LT)...in effect Tyler is the back up LT. Get a veteran to plug and at least give Tyler some growing space and mentoring.

Dallas drafted Tyler Smith to be the future left tackle with a precious first- round pick?

So, why would this franchise suddenly overpay a player on a multi-year contract to play left tackle?

Especially here. This is Stephen Jones we're talking about, who is finicky with the money these days and loves his cheap draft picks more than winning football games.

At least, for now he does, it seems.

There's another angle to this. The team is not-so-quietly stacking up cap room, and there's got to be a reason. Why would that be if this is the right structure to succeed and go for it. Key players are in their prime right now.

To me, it seems curious, if not a bit obvious.

This is a prove-it year for a lot of people. McCarthy, Moore, Dak, Zeke, Schultz, and perhaps Lamb are among those key people. They obviously love what's happening on the defensive side, but the offense remains an enigma wrapped in a puzzle. Hot and cold. Dynamic at times, but stuck in the mud when it matters.

Are they already consulting with Quinn about players and the right moves to make? Sean Payton? What do those two think of the offensive scheme and personnel?

Are they stacking cap space so they can act quickly if this season doesn't go well and the next staff wants to make big changes? Quinn, Payton, or whomever?

I'm not suggesting Quinn would sabotage the team, but his true thoughts as a great defensive mind about this offense do hold value. Is this path the right one? Who would he want where? Same for Sean Payton, who is very close to the Joneses. Do they meet regularly perhaps privately? Don't forget Lincoln Riley, too, who is also close to Jerry and Stephen.

It feels like they're drying the powder, rather than playing entirely for the now. That's OK, by the way. Ultimately, the coaches and players will decide how this thing goes.

Maybe I'm giving them too much credit, but there's a storm brewing one way or the other, good or bad.

Jerry and Stephen seem quiet these days by their standards. Keeping things close to the vest isn't their style, but here we are. Ton of good, young talent. Bright future in that regard, but what to do now?

This will be a very interesting season indeed.

Since when has Jerry or Stephen had anything clever up their sleeve? The cap room exists b/c they have no clue how to go into the free agent market and maximize their cap dollars. They aren't familiar enough with the depth of talent in the league to feel comfortable paying someone to come in and take a job from one of "their guys". They know Ball and Walesko. Its better to HOPE they can step up than bring in a cap casualty from a team they barely know.

Tyler Smith saw no snaps at LT in TC or the preseason. So, clearly he wasn't the plan at LT. He was drafted to replace Connor Williams apparently. He may now have to slide outside, but lets pretend that was part of some grand plan.

Stephen and Jerry don't have to intentionally sabotage anything. They are dumb enough to do it unwittingly.

This season is about wasting the defensive talent while they once again rebuild the entire offense. While fans blame the OL for not providing 6 seconds of protection the truth is the qb, rb, and wr's just aren't good enough even with the defense playing well.

I would give the McClay the credit for identifying Tyler.....especially as drafting at 24 (or was it 25?) and with a 2023 draft that all suggestions appears to be short on Tackles (let alone LT's), drafting a project in Tyler that could go fro LG to potentially Tyron successor was a decent shout....especially as we needed a LG.

However, you're right, there was never an intention of moving Tyler in 2022 (probably homing that Tyron made at least half the season and that Ball/Waletzco could spot start.

The problem is that Stephen has no idea at GM'ing .....as highlighted in the Randy Gregory debacle. The whole league can work out our position....STOP TRYING TO BE SMART (the book is closed, YOU'RE NOT). Rather than trying to wait for the league to come to you, go out there and look for a trade....possibly mess it up, and then RESIGN.

At least Will McClay and the scouts put together a good draft board yearly . Once the draft is over and Jerry has taken off his cap from going down to Mobile after “ chatting “ with the media following the Senior bowl then all bets are off .

From end of April until Jan ( Feb SB , season already over ) ….this multi billion $ business reverts back to being run like a family owned Arlington Art gallery off I / 30 and The Nolan Ryan off ramp . Don’t forget to stop by the gift shop fork over a C note .

Jerry laughs at you as he buys another gas company to provide LG to Europe, another yacht, another plane and the value of his business in Frisco going to the moon. Jerry and Stephen are doing just fine, thankyou.

Great post as there is an elephant in the room and as much as some might want here you cannot hide him!
The next 2 seasons will be about in with the NEW and out with the OLD as they failed to produce anything significant while being paid a boatload of cash!
The Bus is waiting and ya seats will be filling the next 2 offseasons.....

Your goal for the week is to make 3 consecutive posts, in any thread anywhere, with none of the 3 being about or alluding to Prescott in any way.

the one who doesn't throw his teammates and coaches under the bus...or knife his coaches in the back so he can hand pick the next coach he'll jack ripper.
rodgers is no leader.
he's all about rodgers.
I agree that he is all about himself but which player holds his teammates accountable?

Wasn't that the reason people felt Irvin was a leader?

I do not like Brady or Rodgers but I consider both to be the QB's that hold their teammates accountable and if a receiver drops one of their passes, he regrets that immediately. And he's not likely to see another ball for quite a few plays.

Prescott is too much the owner's ventriloquist dummy for me.

And that's the key, and the gift in this. They get to see immediately if their long-term plan for him will work.

It was inevitable that Big Smitty was going to miss games. Better that that happens now when there's a little more time to prepare the OL that during a real game.

Chances are if Tyler Snith stumbles too much, they will end up in a draft position to get a top LT in the 23 draft and they can move him back to LG.

Cap space not used rolls over, correct?

They could be preparing for future cap hits in 2023-2024. Zack Martin, D-Law, Tyron (if he stays on the roster), Zeke, and obviously and most importantly, Dak - all have some serious money coming in terms of cap space.
I really believe Zeke will be gone & Tyron will be haning up his cleats. Pollard coming off his rookie contract, I see him being Dallas #1 & Tyler Smith as well.

You don't draft a left tackle in the first round, then sign the most expensive left tackle in free agency.

This is the part nobody wants to admit. Also, you don't draft a G in the first round unless he is a highly proven player. ie, you either drafted Tyler to be your long term T ... or you were dufus's for drafting him in the first round. So, even though i acknowledge its tough on him to try to make the jump after working at G all off season, fate has forced your hand. You have to start that transition.
