They could very well hit it big with Tyler Smith and Peters. If not, they certainly tried and still have constructed a very good roster.

I'm not counting on it. But if Tyron Smith were to ever come back healthy, I can picture Peters dominating at RT.

Still, this is all a risk because of his age. But I don't mind taking it here.

I think Waletzko is going to develop into the left tackle backup (or possibly even a starter that allows us to slide Tyler back inside). What we saw from him was very limited, but I liked it.

He's got a bum shoulder. I wouldn't count on him for any long term help this year. If we didn't have a clusterbomb of a situation at OT, I suspect he would have been shelved a long time ago.

We absolutely were not prepared. If you have to go out and sign a 40 year old OT two weeks before the season starts, you weren't prepared.

They took a risky calculation thinking that they could dump Collins and then backfill with Ball, Smith and Waletzko. Three guys that have never even taken a NFL snap, one of which you drafted to be your starting LG initially. It should surprise zero fans, other than the fan boys, that the plan blew up in their face and they are now left searching the waiver wire for OT help.

But you get an A for the effort on spinning this as a job well done by the front office.

Right.

The point I think is we should still have fun. But then again, it's hard to have fun when you see Dak on his arse half the game, or Zeke getting TFL'd because the line gets blown up on the left side.

Everyone knew we needed some depth over here, so it shouldn't be a surprise they're catching flack for it.

Did you watch training camp? Nothing wrong with the weapons that they have. You might want to watch them play and then see what happens. They certainly can play a few games with what they have and then get Gallup back.

I wonder if stem cells would help Gallup any.

In my view, he's the x-factor. If he has another 1,000 yard season in him, we sure could use it this year.

In the last 4 years they have spent some draft capital but I think the biggest issue is that they lost a couple of key pieces that they had long term bets on.
2022 1st, 5th
2021 4th, 7th
2019 4th
2018 3rd

I dont for one dont think they are "hoping" they get better through the draft, in all truth they have been a pretty good drafting team over the past decade. They have had some fantastic hits and the obvious misses but overall i don't have many issues with their drafting. The one issue i do have, which you are eluding to, is that they are not good filling in gaps with FA's....they should be thinking about the team development from multiple facets:

- Draft and young players (3<)
- Developing mid age vets
- Filling in with FA's

They do very good with the draft, pretty decent developing the mid aged guys for the most part and terrible with the FA's....hence why their personel department usually has some good stars but very little depth

oh I agree with drafting well….the problem is they rely too much on draft picks and fail to sign decent free agents when there is a need, like now. It’s glaring we need help on the line, I think Tyler Smith will be good…as a guard this year, but he’s young and needs reps and our other left guard is replaceable….as it stands, they would be stupid to not bring in SOMEONE to start on that left side of the line….either Peters or someone else decent (not some nobody) at tackle and keep Tyler at guard (where he is less likely to hold and we can maximize his physicality in the run game).

I definitely didn't mean this year. He shouldn't be counted on at all and should be shelved if we sign Peters.

My bad. I took it to mean you were thinking this year.

I agree. He seemed to show some potential, so even if we get a good backup OT out of him, that's a win for a 5th round pick.

I thought I saw something awhile back that he did get stem cells during surgery. They have hinted recently that new techniques were used. Something about smaller tunneling that allows quicker healing.

Maybe I am wrong , but I fear otherwise, Tyler playing LT , he will try. but he has already the penalty reputation and to save Dak he will have to resort to holding A la Connor Williams and that will become a trademark, his confidence will be shattered and his whole career will go down the drain.

Dak will have to avoid the end rush by stepping in the pocket which will not be there because of Biadaz and MacGovern are average.

Having Peters as an intermediate step will help Tyler grow and eventually take on LT role.

No deal as of this morning. Most likely Peters has left town and the building. Stephen will not overpay like his Dad.

I heard he played and didn’t have much of a problem with it. But that’s not against NFL starters. If he needs surgery they need to do it but we are thin. He may give it a go.
