New league rule coming for concussions

They were talking about the guy from the Bengals game…..not doing his job properly which is why Tua wasn’t in the concussion protocol last week.
I know, because it possibly was a spinal issue. And not concussion

It's amazing these helmets are not safer to absorb a hit to the turf like that.

You’re thinking of the other hit against Cincinnati where his fingers spread. A doctor said that’s a result of a neurological issue.
Is he the DR that got fired?

in 10 years we won’t recognize this game.
If it prevents another Seau, I have no problem with that. It was proven that the NFL was hiding the facts they knew about for over a decade. There have been many Seau’s, but the NFL kept it quiet and ignored players in need. Tony Dorsett has admitted serious issues. If the game has to be softer, so be it. They need to figure it out.

I'm no fan of Dak either, but I don't wish what happened to Tua on anyone. That was some scary stuff Thursday. My heart truly sunk for the young man.

That's not really the point, you outstanding human being.

You asked are you sure you want to tee off on their QB because they would tee off on ours.

My answer is yes. They could lose Aaron Rodgers. We could lose Dak Prescott or Cooper Rush. Advantage us.

It depends... I visited AT&T while it was still under construction back in 2008 or 2009. The turf is literally just placed on top of a concrete slab. The local high school close to me in south Fort Worth recently replaced their turf and it looks like the base was a few layers of hard packed dirt. My guess is the high school has a safer surface than AT&T, but I don't know for certain. I don't know if AT&T has a layer between the turf and the slab, but it would make sense if they did. I have been on the playing surface there a few times and it feels rather soft and has a little bounce to it.

I’ve heard players say the new field turf is softer. How it compares to real grass I don’t know. Just don’t think it’s going to make any difference because if your head hits hard enough against something you can be concussed.

Don't point to Seau - there are many others in the same boat who never got any coverage.

I'd be more in favor of banning that tackle, if you can ban landing on a guy then you can ban whipping him into the ground

Likely that if you do something that gets you evaluated for a concussion, you are done for the game. Likely stronger criteria for clearing the protocol.

Also, this should be like suspensions to a degree. Two in a season, you should have to sit at least two weeks automatically before you can get in the protocol.

I thought this, before I even read your post.
I don't honestly know how they can protect the players adequately and still have it be football as we know it.
It's a conundrum for sure.

You can protect the players by not letting them come back in if there is any reason to suspect a concussion.

It isn't about getting a concussion, it is about how vulnerable the brain is to further injury following a concussion without proper time to rest and heal.

Agree 100%
But there is inherent risk just stepping onto the field.
You can take steps to make it safer, but you are never going to remove all the risk.
