This team seems to hate WRs with 4.4 or better speed

Why do we act like Gallup’s thing has been deep shots down the sideline? That and his toe-tapping catches are what he does.

James Washington was a deep threat in Pittsburgh, so much so that his strengths didn’t line up with his QB’s. Ben needed short area route runners and that’s not Washington.

40’s don’t matter watch the tape. Gallup and Washington have both been deep threats in this league.

The days of Rocket and Galloway were pretty horrible. Great speed though
You missed the point. You don’t want speed and nothing else. It’s about players that compliment each other. Lamb is no burner. They insist on making him the no.1. So compliment him with a guy who can blow the top off. Imagine a d Jackson In His 20s opposite lamb,

Raiders love speed as well. Thank God they took the killer when they did

I think people put way too much stock into 40 times. Think about it like this - stand in one spot and call it 4.5, 4.51, or 4.52. Now step forward about 12 inches and call that 4.3. Is there really that much of a gap between the two? Step forward another 2 or 3 inches and call it 4.2 - has the distance increased much?

If we were comparing 4.4 speeds to something like 6.0, only then would there be a noticeable distance. But 4.3 compared to 4.5? The 4.5 guy can still reach out and put his hand on the shoulder of the 4.3 guy within the 1st 50 yards.

There is a lot more to playing wr than speed. Can they break a jam or press? What is their short, medium or deep route running? What is their football IQ and do they know where the openings in the zone are? Are they a spectacular catch guy?

Remember John Ross? Short deep threat for Dalton and the bengals? Could not break a jam and the bengals didn’t have the line to throw deep if he did. Situation matters.

Dak likes to throw to route runners. Beasley in the slot. Witten at TE. Etc…route runners got separation. Dez was a spec catch guy who never really separated but Romo didn’t mind but Dak never feed him like Romo did. You could say Tolbert is fast, but if he runs sloppy routes, he will be blanketed and Dak will not throw to him. (Not saying anything about Tolbert, just giving an example) Situation matters, scheme matters and know who your qb is and what he likes to do.

I’d love a nice deep threat but easier said than done.

There’s also a lot more that goes into being a quality WR than running fast.

I don't think speed is the main thing either but your maths on 4.3 v 4.5 is a bit off.....

Over 40 yards, a 4.3 guy would be 2 yards away (1.86 to be accurate) from a 4.5 guy which is significant. That's more than "hand on shoulder" separation.

T williams, m Gallup, c lamb. All 4.51s. Or 4.52. Cooper was a 4.4. But they didn’t send him deep a lot. Tolbert runs4.49 he’s in the bench. Simi runs 4.4 he so on the bench. Turpin looks 4.3 ish. He doesn’t see the field in offense

Because there is more to the game than just speed, Simi did not look great in pre season but all of a sudden he will look great in the regular season vs top defenders? Tolbert has yet to show he is ready. I would love for one of these guys to step up and show they can do the job but it starts during the week where you must prove yourself ready
