He hasnt been good hes actually been one of the worst tackles in pass protection in terms of win rate. His run blocking has been good tho but that is probably why he is not up there.

Where do you get the current win rates? I saw on twitter earlier in the season he had the worst pass pro win rate amongst all of qualifying OTs but that’s outdated.

For the most part, OL are usually overlooked in things like this. The flashier players will always be listed first. The two OL on this list, the center from the Ravens and the OT from the chargers were put on there because:

1. Daniel Jeremiah is an ex Ravens scout and he always pays attention to them. He often talks about Baltimore.

and

2. Sayler was thrown into the fire because Slater went down for the year. Sayler has done an admirable job of filling in, which is noteworthy.

It is also very difficult to play well on the OL as a rookie. WR, LB, RB, CB… all of these positions are easier to step in as a rookie and perform.

There are probably several OL that do deserve to be on this list but aren’t.

Interesting. NFL.Com doesn’t consider Tyler good enough to be considered in this list. Rookie offensive linemen who beat him include Ravens C Tyler Linderbaum (1st round, 25th pick), Panthers OT Ekim Ekwonu (1st round, 6th pick) Seahawks OT Abraham Lucas (3rd round), and Chargers OT Jamaree Salyer (6th round).

This is the mid-season ranking. FYI, Tyler was in the Top 25 first-quarter rankings but fell off for this update. Look at the Seahawks - 4 guys in the Top 25! Talk about a draft. Those guys and Geno Smith single-handedly kept Pete Carroll’s Seattle run alive. Linderbaum was my choice for OL at our pick but I don’t fault the Cowboys for selecting Smith because his positions were a much bigger need and there is no buyer’s remorse on him even if the media doesn’t consider him Top 25 anymore.

NFL talent evaluators said it was likely going to take a few years for Smith to peak since he was an extremely young/raw prospect from a small school, but they said when he does peak he very well may be the best offensive lineman from his class. I think we have seen more than enough to believe that his trajectory will be nothing but upward from here. There is a very steep learning curve at LT, especially when the player had nearly 0 foundational technique and just overpowered people like Smith did at Tulsa.

Give him 2 offseasons in an NFL program and I would wager he is a pro bowler.

It was posted what 4 weeks ago. Watching tape his pass protection is to be desired. Which i assumed when they moved him out there. He struggles with hand placement

Ok so it’s a bit outdated. So maybe he doesn’t have the lowest in the league anymore but probably in the bottom 10ish.

So bottom 10 in penalties, sacks allowed and pass block win rate.

Of course he’ll improve as a rookie but I’m not ready to label him as the LT of the future and I would 100% draft an OT in round 1 if it’s BPA.

Hillarious seeing people think that Typer isn't that fgood.

He has been, by FAR, the best rookie T. Not even a question.

he still struggles a lot in Pass protection. he hasnt been a big liability though and that is all we can ask for at this point.
Yeah I’m not doubting what you are saying . It’s probably true. But it’s just weird it hasn’t hurt us this season.

Peters is like 40, he was an insurance policy.

I hope you’re wrong.
Peters despite his age, played well last season. I believed they envision him to start, but the play of Tyler changed their plans

He was average last year. I don’t think him not playing is a result of Tyler’s play/

A steep learning curve was expected from Tyler Smith at Guard as he needed to greatly improve his technique. When you watch him at Tulsa compared to now, he has drastically improved that area of his game. Yes, he is a better run blocker at this juncture, but nobody thought he would of held up at LT at the start of the season. It was expected that Jason Peters would take over once Tyler failed and he was ready.

I agree at this time, he could be a dominate, pro bowl level type guard, but with more reps, he will continue to get better playing the Tackle spot. Compare him to Tyron at the same stage and he is having a stronger rookie season and playing the harder position.

To complete the OL, we still have to figure out if Biaz is the long-term answer and what to do at the position where Tyler isn't playing either at Guard or Tackle. In my opinion, Steele has earned a long-term deal with his play this season. Kind of like Tyler, better run blocker and developing as a pass protector.

He has clearly exceeded expectations at the most difficult position. That alone makes him deserving of top 25 IMO.

Clear anti Cowboys BS. That guys is definitely a top 25 rookie. The media is full of turbo morons.
