I thought Letitia Michelle Wright as Shuri, could have easily made a case ..and even greater case, .for that Golden Globe award as well,
Both terrific acting performances by both Bassett and Wright ... they were capitivating. ;)
I gotta watch the movie again. I said Angela Bassett delivered in my movie last November. It is great seeing her performance rewarded. Wright's? Maybe a second watch will make me reconsider.

You really think so? I didn’t feel that Wright’s performance was very good.
I thought Wright did well enough but barely supporting role level worthy. Well, maybe a smidgen below supporting role level.

Same here. She showed me that she can’t carry a film on her own as the lead character. She may show up in that supporting role, but I don’t think there will be a rush to a Black Panther 3.

I haven't seen it, but is it possible the suddenness of her situation (having to be the Black Panther instead of his sister) is partly to blame?

I don’t think so. It was nearly a year between Boseman’s passing and the start of filming. I think that not everyone is cut out to be the lead in a blockbuster production. Some are better in small doses in a supporting role.

From a legacy standpoint she was the ideal character for the role, even if the actress can't lead a blockbuster. If they do a third movie, they should have her decide to pass the torch. I say this, but I haven't seen Wakanda Forever. I'm just going by what I've heard and what you've said.

Upon thinking about the original movie... it was basically Rocky III. Prove me wrong. ;)

No one in the film came across as the lead role to me. It seemed like an ensemble cast with each carrying a piece of the movie.

It will not be social media's fault if she is not a household name already. From my observations alone, I have seen Ortego is all over YouTube and TikTok in the literal sense.

Dunst's career has been impressive in my opinion. She does gravitate primarily towards dramatic films that are more independent than mainstream fare though.
Yeah, it's hard to not see Ortega on YouTube ever since the series ended. I've watched a few of the interviews and such, and she seems like a very well adjusted, likeable person, with confidence but not arrogance. I find her very impressive. Would love it if there's a spot in the MCU for her...maybe in the XMen.

You HAD to put that idea into my head, didn't you?:) Now I gotta think before posting more. :muttley:

Shadowcat? Feral?
You read my mind about ShadowCat but I cannot picture her as Feral. Same with Wolfsbane. I do not see her all furry like, lol. My quick thoughts:

Lock
Jubilation Lee - She's at the right age. The scene in Wednesday when her Uncle showed up and Ortega burst into a huge grin made me think of her.

Strong feel
Shadowcat - She has the Kitty Pryde vibe.

Good fit
Armor

A stretch
X-23 - I *think* she could be savage enough but honestly want someone qualified to re-play the character after Dafne Keen in Logan)
Blink - Same as Keen. One reason why I enjoyed The Gifted was Jamie Chung's portrayal of Blink, even though they didn't give her much to work with (or the other actors enough to work with either). I would love seeing someone tackle Blink again and have an honest opportunity of making the character stand out.

Jubilee was never one of my favorite characters. Her powers seem like XMen Lite to me.

Shadowcat was the first one that popped into my head, and I think it's a safe bet she won't be played by Elliot Page.

Don't know who Armor is.

Is being Asian germane to Blink's character? If not, I could definitely see her in that role. Not familiar enough with X-23 to opine on that one.

I ready to see Amber Midthunder in the MCU too. She's already played a Marvel character in "Legion"

Dang it! I forgot about Mirage. Ortega could play a good Mirage I believe.
I think that would be better suited to the girl from Prey...or better yet, Costner's daughter-in-law in Yellowstone.

I do not hold ethnicity is a strong obstacle in casting for fictional characters, especially comic book characters. For example, Marvel has switched up Betsy Braddock several times. Olivia Munn still ended up playing Psylocke in X-Men: Apocalypse.

Not touching the Elliot Page comment. :muttley:

Not surprised by Armor's anonymity. Her character has been strictly bound to the comic book page mostly. I do remember her appearing in a Japanese anime version of the X-Men though (Netflix maybe..?)

X-23 is a character that belongs on the big screen. Everything you could do with Wolverine, you can do for her. The character appeared (and was presented adequately well) in the American cartoon X-Men: Evolution (Disney+).
