Playoffs another level of pressure and some people just can't handle it and it is very obvious in kickers.
Much harder on the first tee for golfers in a club championship than playing with the boys on a Saturday.

Even more pressure, and still can't understand why "pressure" vs TB was even a factor in Mahers total melt down.
Guess we will all find out when Maher writes a book someday.
I agree, I don't think it was a "pressure" thing. I don't pretend to know what it was, but Maher has been doing his job long enough that I just don't think it's a pressure thing. At any rate I hope this week in practice he gets over it.

i heard today on the fan that part of the issue was the disruption of the routine bc the officials made anger remove the white painted grass he had put down as the marker for the hold....these guys are creatures of habit and routine, and having that change must have also contributed.

Now - the fact that they didn't read the memo (as everyone of us on here did) that the officials were going to be looking for that and not letting it happen, so they could prepare for the change ahead of time is a whole different matter...I would trust him in SF as long as he goes through his preps all week and looks like himself.
Oy vay. So, our guy is one of the kickers dependent on the marker.

When Vizcaino arrives, Bones Fassel will elbow Maher and point at Viscaino and say, " you don't want to end up like that guy".

Technically grass isn't a foreign object.

You can't dismiss the fact that it was a playoff game. I don't think that's a coincidence. The pressure was too much for him.

I don't know how you trust him in San Francisco. I'd amp up the pressure right now, put him on the practice field, tell him he's got to make 10 straight XPs and 3 FGs between 40-50 yards with everyone watching him and if he misses even one attempt he's being released.
Boy you ain’t right

Vizcaino was the Chargers K to start the 2021 season but was cut after missing 5 XP attempts in the first 7 games.

You can't make this stuff up.
Need to figure out a trade for Justin Tucker or Daniel Carlson ASAP. What are we thinking?

The main thing was the poor field.

Once again I would go back to it being a playoff game. The timing is too coincidental for me. I think he choked under the pressure of the postseason and I don't want that kind of player on the field in San Francisco.

And let's not act like Maher has been a model of consistency over his career. He's been erratic his entire career. Always battling the mental. That is his norm.
Why would you think that an unemployed kicker is better than he is?

Maybe he got it figured out. Kickers are a strange breed. One year they can be awful and the next they can be brilliant. Maher going off the rails is just par for the course.

Wasn't Maher unemployed as well until Dallas picked him up before season started?

We might stick with Maher but it would be irresponsible not bringing someone in this week just to put pressure on him.
