Why the Jones Boyz Will Stick With Dak

As incompetent as they may be, the Jones Boyz know one NFL truism: It's a lot easier to get worse at QB than to get better. Dak does just enough to keep the team "relevant" and the season interesting for fans, even if he isn't good enough to make a playoff run. They figure the status quo is better than the risk of wandering the QB desert again like they did after Aikman and before Romo.

So, they will stick with him until it becomes absolutely untenable to do so. The question then is will they have someone waiting or will they hope to get lucky again a la Romo? Until then, they will give Dak a few more weapons, maybe try to strengthen the defense some, but they won't blow things up as long as they are relevant late in the season.

As others have said already - with his contract next season they have absolutely no choice

Contract. Money. It's that simple as to why they will stick with him. Doesn't make it right by any stretch but that's why we are stuck with him.

Time runs out for everyone...Dak is no exception. He isn't officially on the hotseat yet but the seat is warming up. Let's fast-forward to a year from now and if this team misses the playoffs or can't advance far again, that seat will really get hot! The contract and cap hit are not ideal but neither is the alternative of keeping a QB for almost 10 years without playoff results. Franchise QBs like Matt Ryan and Philip Rivers never won a championship but even they made it to the conference championship game and could be justified in remaining a starter for that long. Dak is just a slightly better version of Andy Dalton (who the Bengals finally gave up on after 9 years).

5-1 WITHOUT Dak the past 2 years says there isn't a drop off.
Well I'm not on the "Rush is better" train because he isn't. But the simple truth is, we could do at least as good with a worse QB (aka reaching the play offs) but pay him considerably less money. Which we then could in invest into other parts of the team and therefore try it the 49ers / Rams / Eagles way.

Everything is better than doing it the same way next season. I'd rather eat up a losing season next year if it meant we're rebuilding at the same time.

Gawd, up until last season I was ok with Dak, last year his inconsistency turned me into a sceptical fan. But right now I'm just pissed off by everything he does and says. Freakin waste if time and money.

A reporter this morning (Kyle Brand) opined that Dak's post game comments about his poor performance vs. 49ers were false. Prescott explained his errant passes, called the two interceptions "Unacceptable". and, "We cant do that," etc.
Well Dak, apparently it is acceptable and it has happened more and more often. Nothing changes. No improvement.

With the contract they gave Dak we have to put up with him for 2 more years.

This.

The only question now is what else do they do?

Do they draft a quarterback and give themselves an option?

Or do they get even deeper into a terrible contract by restructuring it?

The Cowboys had plenty of cap room when Dak was on his rookie deal.

They still didnt sign anyone.

The difference I see is how many teams right now are winning despite their QB play. You have a few elite guys carrying their teams, but you also have guys like Purdy winning games and making the playoffs. Daniel Jones winning games and making the playoffs. Geno Smith winning games and making the playoffs. Even the Cowboys went 4-1 without their starter this season. Jacoby Brissett quietly finished top 10 in QBR. Meanwhile the guys who have recently gotten paid are mostly sitting at home watching the playoffs. Carr is looking for a new team, Murray & Wilson were disasters this year, and Rogers struggled without his top weapon.

Building a well rounded team seems to be the best route to take if you don't have that elite guy like a Mahomes. Rookie contracts and cheaper vet qbs seem to be winning more than the high paid established qbs right now.

Too much credit for the Jones twins. They aren't knowingly settling for some football reason. They don't have any clue that he's not good enough.

They'd never replace him anyway because that would look bad on them and they are much too big of a fan of themselves to ever do that.

Expect a declaration of their belief in the QB to come soon if they haven't already. Also expect a fairly inactive offseason much like the last one.

Stuck with him next year but if we were to happen to get lucky with a Rookie a cut in 2024 would be easy to afford.

That said, I think Jerry resigns him and puts us in misery until he dies!

The Joneses need to not rework Dak’s contract. Try to draft a quarterback in the first 3 rounds, and next offseason season let Dak find a team to be traded too. Next season he is our quarterback though.
