I thought Tyron was awful vs Washington but then played well vs TB and SF. If the money is right I'd like to see him return. I'd also like to see him retire a Cowboy.

We could use the cap space but who is the backup/swing tackle if you cut him?

Sucks, cause he still is an elite talent, when healthy.
And him being healthy for an entire year is next to impossible and you never know when he'll go down.

Tyler is the future at Left Tackle. Steele, may be late to get back onto the field next year due to how late his injury was/who knows how his recovery goes.
So, don't want to trade him away early, but at the same time who knows if he wants to stay either if the writing is on the wall.
IMO he has trade value, even with his injury history.
Terron Armstead still got very good money with Miami as an UFA with an injury list just as long as Smiths.

I think with his contract, some team will want to take the risk to get an elite LT, when on the field.

I doubt he’d take a pay cut after signing a massive team friendly deal for most of his career

Thinking we need to keep Tyron Smith is exactly the kind of thinking that represents what this front office does way too much. Ty Smith was my favorite Cowboy from 2012-17. He was great! Emphasis on WAS.

Come on man, TS has missed 44 regular season games in 6 seasons. 44! Keeping a part time, injury prone T with a big contract because we think we can’t do better? We just drafted a great LT last year.

Tyron Smith was a great player whom I respect very much. But man that dude is DONE. And so are we if we keep doing this kind of stuff.

A few big decisions to make and Tyron is an interesting one. Tackle salaries have gone up so much that his contract doesn't look that crazy comparing other tackles. However, he's still paid too much for an often injured player. I would see what the trade market looks like, but also think they could work out a restructure being most of the guaranteed money is off the books. I'm guessing they convert 5-7 million of his base, add another dummy year and he starts the season at LG or RT.
