I wanted a bigger swing. Really going for it. Which is what Hopkins would represent. Or Wagner, for that matter.

Cooks is obviously worth the pick but I don't think he moves the needle. I've seen Prescott fail with better starting WRs than he'll have this year. Cooper, Lamb, Gallup > Lamb, Cooks, Gallup.
I see.

I guess we'll see. I agree Hopkins can be a better player. I just think this is a better value. JMO. But I'm happy to have Cooks. I like him better than OBJ, and not quite as much as Hopkins. Then again, this costs us a 5th plus next year's 6th so I think it's better than Hopkins and a 2nd.

Close to comparable risks; just not as risky because of the PED thing, and Goodall.

I especially think this is a better deal if they end up drafting a WR by the 2nd or 3rd rounds, because they didn't give up their 2nd round pick.

Say, if they get Josh Downs, and Cooks, that's a better deal than trading Hopkins for your 2nd round pick, imo.

Or even if they get Flowers with their first then get a QB or RB in the 2nd. I just like keeping that 2nd round pick.

As far as OBJ, like you were saying, he was showing you who he is, plus his ACL tears, plural.

Same size and type of player as Hilton, and that was working out fine.

I'm encouraged that they recognize that they need some speed opposite Lamb.

Next stop: realizing that they should send Pollard's speed downfield more often. We sent him deep once in 4 years and it produced a 60+yard td.

My dream addition to the team is a tweener big RB/FB to pair with Pollard, keeping Pollard as a tailback and motion RB/WR.
Hilton was better than Noah Brown but our passing game still sucked when it mattered most. He made very little difference. What we needed was a big target outside.

We have a legit#1. Didn’t need to sign another one. What we have now are legit 1 ,2 and 3.
Disagree. We still don't have a dominant WR. Gallup sucked last year and we have no idea if he will be any next year. So, Cooks basically replaces him. CD is a really good #2. He is no Dez or TO or Irvin.

I'd rather have Hopkins, but Cooks was a solid trade value-wise. It really depends on what we do with that 2nd rounder we saved. If it's another Jerry Jones gamble where the guy gets locked up or is forever injured, then we should have went Hopkins. If they take the card away from jerry and pick a sensible player, then this could be the better move.

In Rayne Dakota Prescottas defense, he was able to find 5’8 Cole Beasly 75 times his rookie year so I think he can find Cooks, lol……just hope they get good chemistry
Dak tends to find the slot wrs more often b/c they are closer to the LOS. CD played a lot of slot last year. What we needed was speed outside to stretch the field. I don't think cooks gives us that but hopefully i'm wrong.

He was given to us for a nothing b/c the texans didn't want to pay him.

1. There haven't been any #1 WRs on the free agent market -- OBJ is not that anymore
2. Many say there's not a single legit #1 WR in the entire draft
3. Didn't pay for a #1 ($12 mil)
4. We already have our #1 - Ceedee
CD is a great slot WR....... kinda like Cooks. What we needed to do was trade for one a legit #1 who can threaten a defense downfield. I've been screaming for DJ Moore since that team fired its coach and imploded last year. DJ was available for trade and was basically a throw-in in the trade with Chicago.

DJ Moore was absolutely not a throw in. He brought 2nd or 1st round grade value in that trade. Yes the price of moving up for a quarterback is crazy.

We weren't going to give up a premium pick AND pay $20 mil per season. Moore was never a Cowboys option.

He was never a cowboy option b/c we are run by morons. The cost of moving up from 9 to 1 in the draft is pretty dam close to the picks Carolina gave up. DJ was absolutely worth a phone call and a late first rounder particularly in this weak wr draft.

Beckham’s best was several rungs above Cooks but two ACL’s and a bit of a bad attitude levels the playing field.
Right. The ACLs make me never about Beckham, and I didn't care for his sideline behavior when he was with the Giants. He seems to have cleaned that up some, but I don't think I've ever read anything about Cooks' attitude.

Alot of copium in this thread. It's an extremely safe move. I don't think it fixes the WR problem though. Not that I want OBJ but we wouldn't be in this mess if they didn't drop the ball last off-season.

I also wanted Hopkins but you can’t say the cowboys aren’t improved with this deal and while dak has had arguably a better trio with cooper and lamb….he hasn’t had them with this level of defense and ceedee is stil getting better. Good move the cowboys and the team is very close.

See how the draft goes and see if less is more with dak or if he comes back more with more week to week focus on consistency and ball security

Ceedee is absolutely a number 1 btw and I killed him last year. He took over games last year and was dominant at times. Saying he’s not dez or to or Irvin Isn’t a knock on him- it’s a testament to how damn good Irvin and to in particular were

Let's compare the return on investment, you versus Cowboys front office:

Cowboys FO approach:
-Top 30 WR in Cooks ($12 mil)
-Top 5 CB in Gilmore ($9 mil)
-Keep all premium picks

Atlantacowboy's approach:
-DJ Moore ($20 mil)
-No other splash external free agent
-First round pick gone

Dallas gets 3 good players. You landed one.
With all respect, who's the moron?

Ceedee is absolutely a number 1

Of course he is. Those here saying otherwise are simp'n silly sauce. #1 WR doesn't mean Hall-of-fame. It means the best WR on your team and one who can rival other teams' top receivers.

He's not only a #1 he ranks above average relative to other #1 receivers. Among all outside and slot receivers,

Ceedee ranking:
12th ESPN analytics
9th NFL.com
8th PFF
etc.

several, show me?

lots of tall tales given his reality tv type status but the proof is in the careers they are very close in comps. But best thing is cooks has maintained his, his whole career while OBJ has had 3 of his last 4 season under 500yards and 3 surgery's to 2 knees. Cooks is the better choice now so who cares what he night have been 4-5 years ago?

now Hopkins is and was a rung above all 3 cooks, cooper and OBJ but those 3 are very close in career production. but dhop asking price was too much.

Show you?

Odell is a 3-time pro-bowler (two-time 2nd team all-pro) with double-digit TD's and averaged 1,375 yards his first three seasons. Sorry, but that's several rungs above Cook's best. I agree though that Cooks is the better investment now, that was kind of my point.

Our passing games was ...
horrible when it didn't matter against DC
great when it mattered against TB
horrible when it mattered against SF

I don't think that variation came from the WRs.
