If Gregory would not have backed out and left then we'd be tied up to another really bad contract.

Gregory, unknowingly, saved Jerry from himself.

This happened again just yesterday with Schultz leaving for Texans when it seemed that he was destined to be another bad contract for us.

Schultz is just standing on the shoulder of giants before him. Gregory walked so Schultz could run.

Thank you, Randy and Dalton. This Cowboys fan appreciates your efforts in making the Cowboys better.

Yeah, I'm gonna miss RG. His final play with the team is the one I'm gonna remember him for the most. How often does a DE get called for holding on an offensive linemen, and effectively cost his team any chance of winning a playoff game no less. Your Denver's problem now.

Jerry used to use the word .... serendipity .... back in the 90's.
This time it applied to save his own self.

I was ecstatic the moment he backed out. Saved Jerry from himself.

And I would love Schults for 8 mil/season. Don't want him for 12. Funny how the rest of the NFL agreed w/ me. Resoundingly.

Also funny that Jerry, in Jerry fashion, once again overvalued one of his guys.
This whole situation crystalized the reality that Jerry and his bozo son don't value positions, they value players, especially their own. You would have thought they believed they had a need at edge rusher given they were willing to spend $70 million to keep theirs. But when Gregory bailed, did they use that money to out and get a really good edge guy (there were some available - ZaDarius Smith for example)?

Nope. They came back and paid Fowler a pittance in comparison. So the money for Gregory wasn't because they thought they needed a player at DE. The money was for Gregory because he was just their guy that they spent a 2nd round pick on.

Conclusion: They are absolutely terrible at evaluating players. Bottom of the league.

I still wonder if that was on purpose. Hope so, as that would be at least one smart thing they've done.
Why go through all of that? Gregory hadn't signed anything, so just pull the offer if you got cold feet.

I think the Cowboys expected Gregory to be loyal to them and sign the agreement as written. Gregory told them to pound sand. Simple as that.

My thoughts exactly. Shocked me how many people were upset when he left.

SO many here are dazzled by a few plays too often.

Ignoring the reality of the whole activity of a player both on and off the field

Look how many want that true pain in the butt Beckham. Someone whose legend way overstates his value.

RG was about the best example of the Clown Show being stupid by making any kind of real long term offer to someone with his history.

Oh he didn’t just hold the dude, he literally picked him up and tackled the o lineman

The Gregory one looks like a big bullet we dodged. For Schultz he probably would have continued to produce good numbers here. We'll see how both do this year.
