I never coached but played organized Football from 5th grade thru college. Winning is hard but after 27 years I think expectations should be set and achieved. If the SB isn't the set expectation level then that's an entirely different story. Dallas is an Elite sports franchise with very high standards, or so we thought. Isn't it time we at least appear in a SB? Its been almost 3 decades. I think all the excuses are used up. Lets not supply them with more.

24 years of futility has beaten the "homer" out of me.
I'll take my homer status back when they add another Lombardi in the trophy case.
You were never a homer if you let that happen to yourself. Just a pretender. It’s the definition of a band wagoner fan.

The whole “homer-hater” thing is an extremely exhausting and oversimplified discussion. Just like most things in life, nothing is ever that black and white.

All of us as fans are as diverse as our personalities. It seems to me that whenever someone doesn’t like a particular opinion of a fan, they are too often labeled either a homer or a hater, depending on the accuser’s perspective. Too often we make assumptions about our fellow fans that are simply untrue or incomplete.

The Cowboys will always be my favorite team. Always. Regardless of won-loss record. And because I love the team, I am constantly thinking about ways we can get better, where we are good, and where we aren’t. I’m often wrong but expressing those opinions are what this forum is all about. The only thing I hate is LOSING. So when I’m critical of the leadership of this team, it’s because I want to see us win!

The next time you‘re tempted to call someone on here a “homer” or a “hater”….just don’t. It’s not that simple.
It’s not like you make it out to be. There’s a distinct difference in character between being a homer or a hater. A homer is someone who is an optimist. Always looking for the positives. Never giving up hope. A hater is someone who always complains about something with the team. Always looking for the negative. Relishing in posting the negative. A hater is someone who does that the vast majority of the time. There’s nothing wrong with complaining about a player, coach or owner from time to time. That’s normal and not hating. But a hater shows lack of character and lack of intestinal fortitude. They’re the type of people who give up at the first sign of difficulty. They are to be avoided at all costs as they will bring you and everyone around them down.

You keep getting served crap sandwiches and you keep eating them and smiling at the server. There was a time when I lived and breathed blue and silver.
And if I'm a band wagon fan how do you explain that I've never missed a Cowboys game for the last 40 years no matter what their record was?

That is well said. Great post. I'm now 52 and feel the same. I was 25 the last time this team was SB bound.

True but we have a higher expectation here and we should. We are the Dallas Cowboys...the Yankees, the Lakers, the Celtics if u will, that ilk. The standard should be very high as should expectations. Anything else won't do.
Placing yesterday's achievements on today's endeavors is a mistake.

When the Cowboys were at their best, the NFL was different. Teams could be built and allowed to develop and mature.

Managing expectations with sports is what it's all about but those expectations can get a little too lofty at times based on what we want, not what is really there.

The changing of the guard in the old NFL was about every 10 years, now it's every 2 for many teams. Just look at the % of change on the rosters.

Back when I enjoyed preseason games, I could watch the young guys coming up and eventually becoming starters. The hook on these guys is so short now too many don't even make the 3 years to be evaluated.

Yankees. Celtics and Lakers do not have hard caps to restrict their retention.

why? Why not Dallas? I think all the great sports franchises should hoist high expectations onto the team. If we can't handle that then we need a new team and ownership. Its like Stockholm syndrome around here for 27 years. Its sad. Have many forgotten why the team trains, lifts weights ? If high level winning isn't the end game, what are we then doing?Lets raise expectations as fans and hold the team accountable. Its ok, really.

They’ve won 25 games the last 2 years. No SB but that’s not a crap sandwich.

Straight up, over the past 10 years, how many teams have more playoff games as in entering the playoffs yearly?

There was a time when this teams success was determined by Super Bowl victories. Where did those 25 wins get them?
So stupid. Who said anything about 25 wins but no SB was good enough? NO ONE!

You impled it to back up your beliefs. I shot it down. You have a lower standard of success than I do .
So, one instead talks strictly Lombardies instead of watching for a Boston College receiver or even an offensive lineman? You go...be surprised with a Flower...you go!
