Would you resign him for that amount? I have a feeling thats what he is going to be asking for. Lets also assume he continue to play like he has played up until now.

Two years ago T.J. Watt signed a 4 year, $112,011,000 contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers, including a $35,593,470 signing bonus, $80,000,000 guaranteed, and an average annual salary of $28,002,750 per year.

I don't know if you sign Parsons to $30M per year or not, but the starting price is going to be north of what TJ got.

Well I’m kinda thinking NOW is the time to try to win before that day comes, but Jerry is “thinking more long term.”

Gotcha.

I think you have to re-set the QB position salary wise if you are paying him that much. You can not pay the QB $40M and Parsons $30M+ and expect to be a SB contender.

Easy question, yes.

He is one of the top 3 defensive players in the NFL. He is worth too defensive player pay.

If you took parsons off this defense it wouldn’t be nearly as good as it has been the last 2 years.

Yes.

And 2-3 years after that (when his cap hit is getting extremely high) if the team is not a Super Bowl contender, then trade him for a 1st rounder and a 2nd rounder at the very least.

if he is not trend ing down at the time then yes he is the exact type of player u break the bank for and give a market setting contract not a running back or avg qb

If he wants to break the bank, I don't think they should. Get the 5 years out of him, his comp pick, and then move on

So you'd let him walk in free agency and be happy with a 3rd round comp pick for him?

Ge out of here and never post on this site again.
I wouldn't be happy at all with losing him. You can't pay a qb top money and micah top money, and have any sort of quality depth. I think you would lose more production as a whole from the loss of depth and quality players at other positions, than what micah brings above the average lb'er

Most teams who spend big on defense are not paying a qb top money

They better be looking in the draft to replace him of that happens. Not saying no, don’t pay him. But if you have his replacement or some one near his abilities. Then proceed from there.
How do you replace an LT, JJ Watts or Arron Donalds? He's a special/generation talent. You don't let that type of player walk. You build around them. I said in another thread, at this point, I honestly believe Jerry and Stephen would let Dak walk before losing Parsons, and it may come to that.

BTW ....the answer to OP's question is yes! easy

This is why I have this could come down to either Dak or Parsons.......

Look at this way.......,..would you let Deion Sanders or Randy Moss walk? That's the kind of talent we are talking about here........

It might not be as bad as you think. Remember what ultimately matters, cap hit. If Dallas gave Parsons an extension worth 30m per year after this season, any huge cap hit won't happen until 2027. 2026 would be a bit high. Either way, that's a good distance away, and the cap would be quite a bit higher by then.

I actually think they will get it done, but I would be against it if the defense regresses to what it was.

Micah is amazing, but if we go back to 1 average safety, 1 good de, 1 good corner, and add 1 amazing lb'er to that, i think they will suck. We are stacked, and it shows

How many times has Prescott played at his aav?

Zero times so far. And odds are they will extend him prior to next year and that bloated 2024 cap hit goes away.

If Parsons gets 30 mil aav it will be a long time before his cap hit reflects that. Especially if he's willing to take a longer term deal so the restructures can spread out longer(max of 5 year spread)
