Grade the draft class

How would you grade the Cowboys 2023 draft class?

  • Total voters
    269
  • Poll closed .
Jalen Carter will have one good year, then end up:
A. Suspended
B. Dead, perhaps along with the fools that hang out with him.
C. Incarcerated
D. Beat up by fellow players and coaches that hate him so much

Do like some of their other picks.
If he could punch a few phily coaches along the way. Seriously your probably right.

Well I can’t give our first pick anything but A
Second pic I’ll give a C
third pic I’d give a B
fourth pick a bee
fifth pick C
The duce pic I give a great narrative read should be come a good novel

When you have to try and add in vet signing to pump up the draft grade I think that says it all right there.
It’s a matter of “did the team improve overall from the previous year?” I think we did. Positive fans will cling to hope and possibility. Since nothing is perfect, contrarians will always find something to lament.

C+
Would have liked to see OL addressed earlier and a dynamic TE

C-

Like the 1st and 3rd round picks.

Luke Skywalker is a reach. Another 2nd round head scratcher.

B- with the vets in trades.
C- in the draft
C overall

Underwhelming draft, I need to time to really look at it. But I think they could have done better.
I will need to look t it further but I can't see rising my grade much at all.A B would be tops. Of course in 2 to 3 years we will know for sure.

The trade with KC was stupid. They basically swapped a late 5th (if they make the playoffs again) for a 6th this year. For a slow CB, in which they really did not need, and can get one in UDFA frenzy.

OL line and RB addressed way too late, and got a pint sized RB, and no blocking RB for Dak. Only thing that saves this is he can return licks and punts, knocks Turpin off the roster. Since Vaughn can catch out of the backfield? Taking those plays away from Turpin. Then that allows Brooks to possibly make the roster.

Did they really need a DE over an OL in the 4th? No they did not.

I like the Mazi pick finally addressing DT. I can live with the TE in the 2nd, but was that really needed that high as well. LB in the 3rd, no problem there.
So picks 1,2, 3 are very acceptable overall.
4 through 7, not so much. Though not sure about Brooks at WR, that pick was as good as any other at that point.

I know it is also about beyond 2023, but apparently they use this excuse and reasoning way too often. Instead teams like the Eagles and what the Rams did a few years ago does not show them a road map to the SB.

So many armchair GM’s! They know more than the Jones Boys, McClay, McCarthy, Quinn, the scouts, outside analysts like Greg Cosell—the FO is just a bunch of incompetent fools who don’t care about winning.

With vets B

Draft picks only C-

Best pick Mazi Smith

Worst pick Overshown

I honestly think Schoonmaker will be a good pick. He's instantly the best blocking TE we have that and is by FAR the most athletic. Day 1 contributor, by mid season he's starting, if not earlier.

Overall it was very meh.

My first reaction was B, but gotta settle on B-.

-It wasn’t a great draft to begin with, and we had low picks. Every player has several flaws, and many are still getting better.

-I’m happy with Schoonmaker but it felt like a reach, and that they had already decided on TE at 58 after Mazi at 26….similar to Joseph at 44 in 2021 after missing on Surtain/Horn. This tendency may be part of our 2nd round woes, but worst case running the ball becomes much easier.

-Overshown was my favorite pick. Gonna be fun to watch play.

-Didn’t understand Fehoko but after listening to Coach Floyd, I’m pretty sure the team has given up on Gallimore, and may even be lukewarm on OO. At any rate he is “looking for 3ts.”

-Asim looks better physically than Waletzko or Ball, but I’ve gotta knock the team down for not somehow selecting a more ready to play OL, but O can’t say I know the overall plan.

-They must be planning on moving on from bust corners Joseph and Wright fairly soon. That’s the only way to explain using a next year pick to acquire a player that may have trouble making the team. He shows anything in preseason, you can’t hide him on the PS, if he doesn’t, or has any injury whatsoever, and he will never see the field.

Seriously, this felt like they wanted to let Jerry made a trade so he could play with his toy.

-If Vaughn can become 70% of the weapon Sproles was, he will help. If it in any way helps keep Elliott away, all the better.

Big fat F. Only thing holding it back from an F- is Gilmore.

Like all drafts the day after they are finished- there’s only one grade that’s accurate: An “I” for Incomplete. Grading a draft now is like issuing a final grade in a college class on the day of registration.

Liked first round but after that I was average to me. The stupidity of passing on Torrence and drafting a TE that can be had later soured the entire draft for me. I don’t even think TE was a big need.

I liked the 3rd round and Duece on the loose. I had other rbs that I wanted though

Very strange draft. I mean did they watch the 49er playoff game and see no weapons? I don’t get it. This is similar to the D draft when DQ got here. What is the plan on offense? We didn’t get better.
Think that’s why they traded for Cooks. And still have faith in Tolbert. It’s time for guys to step up.

I went with a B. Overall draft for me was a C. However, with adding Gilmore / Cooks and the UDFA Crop I bumped it to a B

Big fat F. Only thing holding it back from an F- is Gilmore.
What about Cooks? Analyst Greg Cosell RAVED about Mazi Smith, and we NEEDED a run stopper. “F-“ means no impact. We wanted a blocking TE, and Deuce will be our Sproles. Overshown appears to be in the mold of Kearse, and I’d prefer to wait and see on the others before I labeled them “busts”, don’tcha think?
