The reason why Malik Davis got zero carries when Pollard went down

So many fans have felt and said there is much football politics going on within the Dallas Cowboys, and it starts at the top. This is proof of that. Jerry wanted to justify playing his $16 million dollar RB, even if he's not the best choice on the field.
I don’t think that’s the case. I believe Zeke was a better all around back than Davis.

I don't know the other side of the story. But I know I don't completely trust Broaddus at all.

I wish Davis would chime in on this but I doubt we ever hear anything.

Davis > Zeke in that SF game after Pollard went down. At least give him a chance.
That’s why I said if true because it’s hard for me to believe this and it never came out.

But what is the real reason he didn’t get one carry?

But did he demonstrate that in practice, etc. or was it just an emotional comment he never followed through with? This reminds me of that incident with Pollard where he had a big game and Skip Peete is later saying that Pollard couldn't do more than 15 touches or something like that. There was audio of Pollard saying his legs were shot or something after a long run but that could also have been an emotional statement. If we needed Pollard more, we'd have gotten him out there unless he was hurt. Off topic, it was a dumb statement for the RB coach to be putting in the press so consider the sources.
That I’m not sure. I hope it was just anger. He’s still on the team so something isn’t adding up.

That 'better' certainly didn't show up against the 49ers. Zeke was given full reign, yet he failed. Big reason why he got cut. His performance (or lack of abilities) these days definitely doesn't justify the pay. The Cowboys gave Zeke every running play (the whole second half) after Pollard went down late 2nd quarter, and Zeke failed.

Cowboys messed up big time. Should have mixed some plays for Malik.

I like Malik and feel he is very capable of being a valuable piece in the RB rotation. I don't believe all this crap about not putting in hard work if he ain't gonna play much. I give him more brains than that. Like his running style and hope to see more of him this season without Zeke being pampered.

I don’t disagree that Malik should’ve got carries. I just don’t think he didn’t get them because of a Zekes salary.

I got into a big dust up with my DB Coach in college one week about not playing me because of "seniority". Long story short an injury happened I finally got to play put up 13 tackles (11 solo) from the slot, and started every game the rest of my eligibility.

Point is, I think Malik thought he was better than Zeke, and realized it didn't matter if he was because Zeke was even starting over Pollard. My issue is the coaches not being professional enough to play the youngster when his opportunity came due to them being upset with his attitude. Malik was right he should've played more, and not everyone is as calm as Pollard to wait quitely when they should be playing.

I wasn't a fan of Skip Peete either.
Good post!

There wasnt a lot of context there, it may have not been that bad, and he was just in the "doghouse" that week. When Pollard went down I kept saying "put Davis in, give Davis some carries." He did get in...and he missed a block or nearly fumbled...pretty sure it was a block...and I said "thats not the way to stay out there" Anyone remember the play Im talking about?

Troy Hambrick said (on camera) that he was better than Emmitt and should be starting.

Emmitt was very limited at that point (his final season in Dallas) but I would have cut Hambrick on the spot for that comment...

Emmitt is on a short list of athletes that you just don't criticize if you're another player.

Staubach
Emmitt
Walter Payton

Guys that did it the right way from every aspect...

Ha. Ok, tell us why Malik didn't get a single carry to end the 2nd quarter and that whole 2nd Half against the 49ers? Why was Zeke the only RB given all the carries?
I have no idea. It’s not like Pollard didn’t get any carries so I’m not entirely sure why he couldn’t get Pollards carries but I’d this is true then he was in the dog house.

If so, this shows how immature the decision makers are. At that point in the playoffs, the goal is to win AT ALL COSTS.

The story doesn't make much sense. Week 2 of the playoffs seems like a weird time for a 3rd string RB to complain about opportunities. I think they just didn't play him in that game because they were scared to throw an inexperienced RB into the fire in a playoff road environment. They would rather trust a washed up veteran like Zeke at that point in hoping he could carry them for a half like his younger days.

AND THEY CHOSE WRONG!

That's the only part that doesn't make sense......once again.
