I look at it from the Jones family perspective. Since Dak has been the Cowboys quarterback he has never had a losing season and the Cowboys have been the top story of the NFL news cycle for the most part. The Jones family is happy with Dak because he takes the hits like a good soldier. What he did in 2017 for Jerry made him a Cowboy for life. Dak lost respect from the media and players around the league for standing. I don’t know what quarterback that could stand the pressure of what Dak was under at that time making a 4th round salary. The wrong move Dak could have been out of the NFL in 2018.
Also, keep in mind you are talking about the same Dak that could have agreed to a 5-year deal worth $175M (w/$110M guaranteed) JJ offered that would have paid him $35M/AAV in 2020 but instead held out, getting the franchise tag and in spite of getting hurt in 2020, ultimately getting his 4-year deal all while making JJ look bad in the press for not signing Dak sooner....and watching Dak play below par in the back to back playoff losses to SF.

You add so very little to conversations. Sad that a 'grown man' relegates himself to the Bob Euker seats holding up irrelevant name-calling signs and somehow earning a free pass as such.

Dak is gonna make the Joneses pay for his loyalty.

Dak was picked over Romo. What's the difference?

An unproven hot hand with some early success vs a veteran with a track record of Playoff inconsistency.

NFL is a business. It's short-term what have you done for me lately.
Romo was coming off injury and the team was in the midst of a winning streak. It's an understandable decision whether you agree with it or not (I didn't) This is an in a vacuum comparison.

He never held out lol. He just didn't accept the offer. No hold out whatsoever. He's also the "same Dak" that played for 2 mil the last year of his contract and never made a peep.

It’s fact. They were a sub .500 team. And a team with a losing record should not have been in the playoffs.
Ok? That has nothing to do with anything.

It doesn't change the fact that the TB game is still a bigger game than any regular season contest.

They may be basing it on Purdy being 1-0 in matchups against Dak as well as Purdy having avoided mistakes better in 2022 than Dak. October 8th is SF vs. Dallas so time will tell.
Then they should be using Daks record against Hurts in a positive for Dak

If they are being honest. Which they arent. Comparing 2 QBs in a game played with 52 other players is disengenous at best.

What an extremely reaching video and thread. As long as the Cowboys reach the playoffs, neither Mike McCarthy or Dak will be replaced.

You can blind yourself to the facts.

McCarthy - he's the only one with his job on the line. Dak is going to get extended.

I don't understand this "Big Game" thing. Was the playoff game against Brady not a Big Game?
Why in the hell do posters always bring that game up as if it was some sort of accomplishment. That team was trash but just because it was "Brady" in the game, the GOAT, they actually think that Dak is on the same level as him or even better! Hell, if Brady was on that Cowboys team they probably win the SB.

GMF is one of the more enjoyable sports talk shows for me because they are fair and not trying to troll for reaction, and it's 100% football talk.

Good clip from a recent episode. I think it's a fair take on our Boys. (Click video for Youtube link Won't show in thread)
  • DAK arguments:
    • NFC Quarterbacks are a free-for-all. Rogers and Brady gone. Hurts won the respect the last year, but there is no Murderer's Row like the AFC. Dak has no excuse. (See video. Good comparison pic.)
    • Dak Prescott should be right out of everyone's mouth as best QB in NFC. But he's Kirk Prescott. Good player, but just has limitations.
    • No more excuses. Kellen gone. Make this your year. No more scapegoats.
  • BIG MAC arguments:
    • 2024 Free Agent Class Notable QBs. No one great available. Kirk Cousins and Ryan Tannehill are the best players. It's an equal swap to replace Dak.
    • There is no one that can be the replacement for Dak. The draft pick probably won't be high first round either. Coach replacement is best direciton.
    • Jerry has put all the weight on McCarthy. Kellen gone. It's your job now. No decision tree.
  • Big Game, pick a QB:
    • Stafford or Dak. Stafford wins.
    • Brock Purdy or Dak. Purdy wins.
    • Daniel Jones or Dak. Dak wins.
  • Cowboys and Buffalo are probably the only teams that have pressure to not only win, but win multiple playoff games. Losing in Division not bad, but it's same thing.
    • Dak or Big Mac, someone takes the fall if another Playoff repeat with no big advancement.

Neither McCarthy, nor Dak, are on the hotseat in 2023. Both of their jobs are safe. This is media driven hype, which Jerry doesn't mind, because it keeps them talking about the Cowboys. There isn't a good reason for a coach with back-to-back 12 win seasons to be on the hotseat, and the team has improved since last season.

Dak is still a top 10 QB in the NFL, and in the NFC, he's likely top 2. Stafford and Purdy are not better than Dak, and I'd argue that Dak may have a legitimate claim to be the best QB in the NFC this season. Hurts is his only legitimate competition for that honor.

The question is this: is it loyalty or simply knowing that JJ will cave to his every whim? If your bank is providing you double the interest rates why go to another bank? The fact is the Bank of JJ clearly lacks much in the way of oversight.

Held out in the sense that he refused to accept a 5th year to any contract offer and instead accepted the franchise tag. As for Dak's last year, he was a 4th round draft pick who agreed to the contract as that is what the NFLPA agreed to with the owners. So why bring up Dak never making a peep? If you are saying he outplayed his contract then an argument can be made for that much like an argument can be made that Dak underperformed his contract last season.

IMO, Jerry will more likely fire Big Mac .

Ole' Jerrah had to get rid of Kellen , and that most definitely infuriated him .
..kinda doubt it. If big Mike gets us to playoffs again. And we fall short.

Dont think Mike will get axed. What other coach has brought consecutive playoff seasons? Recently.

Hurts has only faced Dak per say once and Dak led Dallas to a win. Unsure what 1 game means but as I have previously stated, rankings are based on opinions that are flawed by nature.
