Sorry but the UDFA is not the same level of prospect. MM has taken players like Gannon Grbac Brooks and Rodgers and done a whole heck of a lot with them.
Seems like I keep getting blocked from threads concerning the Cowboys trading for Trey Lance. Let's see if I don't get blocked from this one either. Sheesh.

My biggest concern is the very reason why someone who is a pass happy coach like Kyle Shanahan would give up on Trey Lance after only 2 years of having this kid on his roster after Shanahan gave up three 1st round picks to move up and draft Lance 3rd overall, especially after having barely a 1 year experienced younger QB (Purdy) who was drafted last overall in the whole 2022 draft, plus another 3rd overall draft pick in Sam Darnold who is now on his 3rd team in 5 years? This should be a huge concern for every Cowboys fan. Clearly, Kyle Shanahan and the 49ers saw enough of Lance to give up and accept a middle round pick for this super costly investment who was supposed to be their franchise QB by now. I wouldn't complain much if it was for a 6th or 7th round draft pick, but a 4th is a little troubling for me if this kid doesn't pan out.

Nothing but upside. We've had a weak QB room for 6 seasons. Lance is most likely a bust.. but he is no worse than Rush... and only cost us a 4th rounder.

I'd be keen to see how he lance would go with our starters.

After all these years, Jerry and his crew have cap and draft management down. They are finally back to where they can be creative again, as when Jerry and Jimmy christened their new team.

Three starts over three years and three first round picks...

Ton of talent. Raw and undeveloped. Reminds me a lot of Geno Smith situation. We'll see..he now has none of the pressure that he had on him in SF after they traded a fortune for him.
Geno Smith may be the most realistic best-case-scenario comp I've heard. Hadn't thought of him.

I don't HATE the acquisition....just think they overpayed for a guy that would have been cut. Eagles might have tried to sign this guy under different circumstances....but they would have pulled it off for a 7th, or with a player for player trade with someone they wanted to get rid of. They usually WIN trades...or at least break even.

9ers won this trade.... so just gotta hope against hope he is the rare guy that can salvage his career

The dude missed his last year of college cuz of COVID. He was injured the first two years in the NFL and was under tremendous pressure to prove he was worth the haul 40 whiners gave up for him. This is a good move. It only costed a 4th. Don't know how anyone can't like this. He gets to sit behind Dak and learn with a elephant off his back. Read a post here complaining Cowboys never address the back up QB position. Now we do and it's a bad move. Lol!!
Dak due $60 million in 2024.

TL is Daks replacement.

There are lots of examples of quarterbacks that were cut and came back productively. Warren Moon is one in the past of the NFL. They aren't that uncommon.

I give Jerry a lot of heat but this is a great trade. Very low capital pick for a lot of potential upside. People are complaining that were not getting a super star player for our pick. Its a 4th rounder, not a 1st so get over it. If he was an Aaron Rogers or Patrick Mahomes we wouldn't be giving up a 4th. The fact were trying to become a better football team is great and we have trash behind Dak, so at least we can try and make things happen with this guy. Don't forget Dak has been getting injured and is aging as well. The only way I would be upset about this is if he was going to get cut and we traded a 4th for him, but then again reports are the Bills made a trade offer as well. Who knows if we can show he can play a bit better we can get more capital from him later.

Lots of examples of QBs drafted in the Top 10 (or even top 20) to be their team's Franchise QB , who were a bust for the team that picked them, and then resurrected their career and found real success on their 2nd team?

Warren moon wasn't a top 10 draft pick. (Wasn't he a star USFL guy that came to the NFL?)

There's Young.... there's Tannehil (kind of)... and I just can't think of anyone else in like 40 years. There's a zillion Tim Couchs, Ryan Leafs, Vince Youngs and JaMarcus Russels out there....but hardly any Steve Youngs. The busts that stayed busts, probably outnumber the busts who turned it around, by 75 to 1 or more.

I don't think he would have been cut. There are definitely other teams with questionable qb situations that I'm sure were in the mix. The reality is we probably had to pay a little higher of a price than other teams might because we are in same conference and of the likelihood of these two teams meeting in the playoffs.

For his age, athleticism, and raw abilities alone he's worth a 4th round flyer to see if he fits better here than he did in SF. It's a gamble, but it's not a big one.

Considering what the niners traded him to us for, and what they gave up to get him, not sure how that could be viewed as a win.

How many quarterbacks are drafted each and every year...that runs picture presented into futility, not the talent involved. Quarterback skills have improved as well as knowledge at the position recently. I'll side much more with a #2 round draft grade by Dallas, itself, two seasons ago, than a whole room of cats meowing for milk.

If you paid $100, 000 for an original Vincent Van Gogh,....and then later found out that the TRUE artist was really Vincent VanGork, a plumber who lives in New Jersey who makes counterfeits as a side hussle in his dirty stinky garage ...... and then you were able to sell the worthless piece of krap to someone for 50 bucks, then you won the trade to whoever bought it from you for 50 bucks.

(chuckling to self) There are no under priced masterpieces in football...only commitment and sacrifice. Opportunity is paid for.

Well I've been in a room full of cats MANY times. I'm in one right now in fact. THEY ARE EVERYWHERE. I let them in to get rid of all the mice...which I had let in to get rid of all the crumbs. They're driving me crazy. So I see you're point. I have no idea what your point is...but I see it!

Hey....I should let in a whole bunch of dogs!!!

Why is Parsons a great linebacker? He's a great tackler in the kill zone.

How does Lance become a great quarterback? By becoming a great deliverer in passing.

That is learned...one pays for the trip, but his base value has already been judged as strong by the Cowboys' own evaluators...not fans.

He'll advance much faster now that he is strictly learning and gaining technique. He has a lot of work, but better opportunity in the real world.

(The coach roaches would beat the rats/mice to the crumbs.)

Philly acquired Minshew after he spent two years with Jacksonville and his compensation was less than $1 million per season the two years he was with the Eagles. They traded a sixth round draft choice for him. Dallas acquired Lance after he spent two years with San Francisco and his compensation will be $3 million AAV for the next two years with the Cowboys. They traded a fourth round draft choice for him. Look at what Minshew did in his two years with the Jaguars and compare it to what Lance did with the 49ers in his two years there. Then you’ll be able to speak to the difference between an NFL owner smart enough to hire a professional to run his team and one that isn’t smart enough to hire a professional to run his team. This trade was not out of the Eagles playbook. It is vintage Jerry Jones. Nothing more than news making nonsense.
So you're telling us Jerry is a hell of a lot better than the eagles gm? Because Lance is a legitimate nfl talent and Minshew is a journeyman backup.

When did Shanahan become a QB whisperer?
