And that’s say a lot. There was absolutely no reason to make this trade at this time in the year for another QB. He’s probably not going to play at all this season. All it does is create QB controversy with the haters who actually believe that he’s better than Dak. And what’s worse, MM had no idea about the trade until it was already done. Dumb move by the ownership. Just horrible timing right before the season opener.

I like the trade. 4th round pick for a 22 year old QB that was picked number 3 overall is a good risk that could pay off.

He has the talent, just needs development. 49ers seem like a bunch of drama between getting office and coaches about taking Lance and just wasn't a good situation.

Here, Lance can sit and develop without any pressure.

As far as QB controversy is concern, I think it's silly. Nobody in their right mind thinks Lance will take Daks spot. It does put pressure on Dak to perform and he seems to play his best when he has competition

Listen, I'm not a huge fan of the trade, simply because I hate having to carry 3 QB's on the active roster when we have such a deep roster and are in a crunch to keeo players. I think the 3rd QB should always be someone you're able to keep on the practice squad. That being said, I don't think this can qualify as one of "Jerry's worst moves ever" simply because it involved nothing more than a 4th round pick and some extra cap space. How many times has Jerry given away higher picks or much more cap space to players who never fully contributed value equal to what they were given. In this case, eh, a 4th round pick basically is replaced by one of our free agents signing a (slightly) above-average contract next year and us receiving a compensatory pick back in return.

This trade may or may not make us better in the long run, who knows, and I certainly think the fact that MM wasn't consulted is concerning. But I also think it's a LONG way off from one of Jerry's worst moves, and is unlikely to be something that moves the needle heavily in one direction or another going forward.

100% agree on every point. Horrible scheming team management without being in communication and having input from your head coach and franchise QB.

He’s been healthy all offseason participating in offseason workouts, OTA’s, mini-camps and preseason games and couldn’t even win the backup role.

Way to call yourself out as a guy that just doesn't get it. Your inability to appreciate the value of this trade has no bearing on anything. All you did was raise your hand and say you're not that football-smart.

It's a great move by Jerry that will pay dividends down the road.

I really don’t see why people are mad about losing a 4th. We have picked guys in the first round that turned out to be trash, and we’re worried about a 4th rounder? I have a feeling that if anyone in our division had got him for a 4th round pick, people here would be saying “Jerry’s stupid for not giving up a 4th rounder for him” lose, lose situation.

So this is worse than wasting multiple firsts on Galloway or a first and a third on RW11?

Even if you do not like the trade the OP premise is asinine.

The way I look at it, tell me of a 4th round quarterback since Prescott that is a better prospect than Lance.

I said one of the worst, not the worst. Don’t take liberties with the facts please.

Dak balled out from day 1. Lance hasn’t. Couldn’t even beat out Darnold for the backup spot. Hopefully MM can school him up. Some QB’s take several years to develop. Well, not really.

This was a move with the potential to improve the Cowboys future prospects. It has nothing to do with this season and neither does a 2024 4th round draft pick anyway.

There are other "bums" who got traded in favor of a different quarterback. Some have already been mentioned.

Bret Favre was traded by the Falcons to the Packers. The Falcons considered him a bust. In his first season he threw 4 passes and two of them were intercepted. He attempted a fifth one that season and he was sacked.

Steve Young was traded by the Bucs to the 49ers because he was deemed a bust. In his first two seasons, he was 3-16 as a starter for the Bucs. He threw for 11 TD's and 21 INT's.

Trey Lance is in pretty good comapny when it comes to QB's given a 2nd chance on their careers.

I never said anything about losing a 4th round pick. My complaint is the timing of this and the fact that MM had no clue this was coming. Jerry ***** up big time Creating controversy right before opening day.

I see.

You're surprised?

Although, it shouldn't be controversial. Dak is the starter. Cooper is behind him. Nothing Lance does this season is going to change that. I expect them to put Trey Lance on ice for a season and give him the opportunity to learn behind two veterans.

LoL, so basically it's just a problem for you and America's Cowboy on this forum? Because the team doesn't give a rats arse about what we discuss in the forum and what guys like SAS comment about.

The trade is, at the moment at least, neither good nor bad. Giving up a fourth is absolutely reasonable for this guy and the timing doesn't mean ****. Dak will start and that's that. Don't wet your pants about this. Just hope that your boy performs in the playoffs as nothing else matters.
