Some plays focusing on Mazi Smith analyzed by Someone named Choppin It Up with 2Timez at youtube. Mazi looked pretty good to me. One thing I noticed was on these handful of plays was that Mazi was not double-teamed. I thought he would be double-teamed more. He is strong, pushes into the backfield, and can also move pretty well.

This board is hilarious. Judging Mazi after his 1st game. Unbelievable.
No surprise from me.
The masses here at CZ have been begging, pleading for a bonafide DT stud ad nauseam for years.
Was expecting the lofty expectations + intense scrutiny from many fans off the bat - despite them overlooking Smith having to go through many adjustments, changes, and improvements in the NFL because of the way he was coached to play the position in college.

Man, thanks for sharing man. Man, I think Mazi gonna get betta each game man.

There were alot of positives there. His combination of strength/athleticism/hustle really showed up on film. He needs more consistency with his technique, because you can see him getting too upright on the plays he gets washed. But it looks as though he has gotten that tighter

He needs a lot.

Tries to bull rush everything.

No pass rush skills.

Common excuse is that 1 tech can’t pass rush.

But Hankins has 15 career sacks.

To be fair, most of us didn’t get to watch him in camp.

Then the preseason starts and we are surprised to see Mazi needs work.

A lot of work.

I thought the kid played well. JMO. But he fits in here.
only knock on Mazi i’ve seen is his snap get off. some of that is not knowing the play. some of it is lack of explosiveness. you can work on both in the off season. he will get better. i’m excited for him by year 3 when he puts it all together. he might be a beast.

Not sure that I would say it's a lack of explosiveness, I think hes simply played in a very read & react heavy scheme in college, and now he is being asked to change his style. He's now having to learn to read blocks as he's attacking which takes a ton of reps to basically rewire his brain and muscle memory. I'd expect that by mid season he is a different player than he is today.

Man, that was like listening to 2 stoned hippies having a chat in 1968 man.

Not exactly an every snap examination either man.

That video is unwatchable due to the word crutch of the content creator.
