What happens if this thing goes off the rails here soon?

Now, in all fairness, neither McCarthy or Dak are terrible enough with the talent around them to have this season imploded on itself. To the dismay of the logical fans amongst us, they'll probably win just enough games to keep Jerry happy and hopeful and we all get screwed again.

But what happens if the season goes sideways? Do they even consider pulling Dak for Lance? Once you do that, there is no coming back from that, you have to move Dak in the offseason. I don't think Jerry wants any part of that. Would McCarthy try to make the move and have Jerry overrule him?

If the season goes sideways, the smart move would be to bench Dak and play Lance and see what you have. Stop worrying about 2024. If Dak and McCarthy can't make it work this year, thinking that next year will be different is dumb. It's bandaid pulling time if this season implodes on itself.

If we had competent leadership in the GM office, they'd be planning, even quietly, the process of what to do if this goes sideways - how they handle the QB spot, what to do about the coaching staff, etc. There is no reason if this season is a dud, especially if things implode and they miss the playoffs, to bring back either Dak or McCarthy.

PS - Another fear. I like Quinn. But I also think if Jerry is forced to **** can McCarthy, he'll retread Quinn as the HC. Another bad decision in the making.

I agree if the season truly goes off the rails you have to give Lance a shot to show what he can do. If not why did you trade for him to begin with?

The tough part with that though is you really need to be eliminated from playoff contention for that scenario to happen and you only have 8 teams at 500 or better in the NFC with 7 playoff spots up for grabs so it will be hard to truly be out of it unless things get really bad and you start losing to teams like Washington & NY.

I guess everyone forgets Lance is the 3rd string QB. The developmental player. A possible player for the future.

If there is a change at QB (there won't be) then it's Cooper Rush time again in Dallas.

It has already been off the rails since Jimmy Johnson's departure. Things got better when Parcells came but when he left this organization went back into a circus.

As far as this season goes, McCarthy needs to bench Dak now. There is no future with Prescott. It's obvious some of his teammates have given up on him the last two 49er games.

I think it depends on the situation. If we are in Game 11 or 12 or so and the team is 4-7 or 5-8 and a long shot for the playoffs, what's the point of playing Rush? There is no upside. They brought Lance in as a potential successor down the line for Dak. So if they have to replace Dak because the season is basically over, they aren't playing Rush.

I don’t see any type of shot that he cans McCarthy AND Quinn.

Not sure we want that either as it’s up to him to screw up from scratch yet again, and we may do way worse than Quinn.

Jerry will ask him to find the next Shanahan like he did in Atlanta. In fact that seems like a likely scenario if you think on it.

If the season goes in the tank, they'll go to Lance to get a feel for him. Rush is not the future.

It won't get that bad though. However, 4-4 is quite possible.

I have to think that Moore has a plan for Quinns defense since he knows it so well

If Chargers start out hot and Dak goes in the crapper it will an interesting bye week
no it won't because they'll still profess their love for dak, and it'll be the D not the offense this time lol

the nfl wouldn't let that happen to us

Depends on what kind of sideways. The team quits sideways or injuries to key players like Parsons, Dak, a couple offensive lineman, and the next best remaining CB type of sideways? Pulling Dak for Lance doesn't mean moving Dak in the offseason necessarily. Depends on Lance's performance. His performance at the niners was really not good. I have zero faith that Lance would be better than Dak right now. It would be worse. I doubt Lance is better than Cooper tbh. Has Lance ever shown anything in the NFL? Stats are total crap.

Bottom line is that Jerruh knows how to make money. They will have contingency plans already available as it pertains to making money.

Dak is on the books for a ton of money next year. I think he is here next year. Now would be the time for JJ to extend him for a year or 2. I am not kidding. JJ really thinks Dak can do it. He is hard headed. He brought Lance in on the cheap. If it goes off the rails and if we are out of playoff hunt with some games left then he may see what Lance has. He knows what he has in Rush. Now if Lance comes in and lights it up like Dak did after he took over for Romo then it may get interesting depending on how many games he plays.

I really think it depends on the situation. Rush seems like the guy who gets you through a couple of games while the starter is out. He's not a guy who can realistically start for an extended period of time though, hes simply too limited in his physical abilities.

On his 2nd interception (if this occurs in the Bolts game) Dak will be benched for Rush.
If the above occurs and we beat the Bolts Mr.Rush will be our starting QB vs the Rams.
Forget the cash payout to Dak it is meaningless as Dak already has all his guaranteed cash in his pocket.

A lot of guys will be having a blast in here with their anti Cowboys agenda.
