Where is Mazi Smith?

Déjà vu...

I think I've been here before.
Yes. Where is the young Mr. Mazi Smith?

Mazi Smith isn't what we thought. He is a major project that needs a lot of work and hasn't shown any glimpses of being a big time player or even just an avg player. Same goes for that TE with a bad foot. The Cowboys draft was trash this year.
Good chap, Mazi is still a season away from being ... serviceable. I just don't see him becoming another Russell Maryland or a Leon Lett. We need to quit equating Big School and big body to greatness.

So, if there is that big a learning curve shouldn't your strategy be to not draft DT in first round or acquire them via other means? ie, let someone else pay for their education while you get a guy whose ready to take someone to school.

I'm not expecting him to necessarily pop off the screen, but game after game, I'm literally wondering, is Mazi injured? Did he even play this game?

I could understand if I saw glimpses of that vaunted super athleticism, like if he's tossing guys around but not quite getting the sack... but it's more like I literally don't notice him in the game at all.

I guess we'll see in a year or 3.

It’s way too early to label him a bust. He is learning new techniques(that he wasn’t asked to do in college) and it takes time for his position to develop. If nothing changes by the end of next season, then I’ll be concerned.

We need this dude to shore up the defense. I don't recall him making any kind of impact on any of the games so far. Im wishing he'd be another Russell Maryland .
Russel Maryland was thr first overall pick.
That’s #1.
In the entire draft.

You can “wish” all you like, but that’s simply not realistic.

We are a top 3 defense in just about every metric you can think of. Our other DT (Osa Odighizuwa) is playing like a legitimate top 5 Defensive Tackle in the NFL.
I think a lot of you people are older fans are used to when the Cowboys could essentially cheat and have all stars at every position. It does not work like that anymore. Yeah it sucks we can't just outbid people to have more talent on out rosters than other teams smh.

Low iq cowboy fans see Jordan Davis making plays this year after no showing last year and still don't get it. What a surprise
Jordan Davis has improved as a pass rusher this year, but he was already making an impact in his rookie year as a run defender. His injury was a main reason why they went out and got Suh and Joseph. It’s true that he’s taken his overall game to another level in his second season, but this narrative that he no-showed during his rookie season is just a dishonest attempt to justify Mazi’s lack of impact

This whole Davis sucked last year narrative is one of the coping mechanisms around here. There was some stat last year about Davis before he got hurt where the average rush yards per attempt was dramatically different when he was playing versus not playing, so he was pretty good pre-injury. And of course this year he looks dominating.
Yep…beat me to it

It doesn’t look good so far.

He’s getting 11-18 snaps a game.

He’s one dimensional at best.

You should look again and think about how the DL is denying push at the poa.
If I have to look again, or hit rewind or few times......that might explain why I'm looking for noteworthy plays for a 1st rounder......again.

The thing is some fans actually realized he wasn’t gonna be a first year wonder. He’s learning to play the position and developing technique. A career isn’t 6 games. I remember fans saying merryman was better than Ware early on. But you have to judge players over time

90% have no clue what he actually does throughout a game. It's like a mentally challenged version of "Groundhog's Day."
