So, if there is that big a learning curve shouldn't your strategy be to not draft DT in first round or acquire them via other means? ie, let someone else pay for their education while you get a guy whose ready to take someone to school.
Yep. Fade it in the draft and pay a free agent.

All a draft pick does is grant you 4 years of cheap control for a guy, and NTs usually spend 2 or 3 of those figuring things out. It's a hard position to return value on.

Mazi Smith isn't what we thought. He is a major project that needs a lot of work and hasn't shown any glimpses of being a big time player or even just an avg player. Same goes for that TE with a bad foot. The Cowboys draft was trash this year.
First 2 picks will be complete busts. Both were terrible and huge reaches. Another wasted draft that will cause depth issues going forward. People point out the picks here and there we hit on but this front office misses way too much in rounds 2 and 3. And way too inconsistent in round 1 year to year. Taco Charlton and LVE back to back years for 1st round picks.

What gets me is watt was on the board when Dallas selected Taco. After what JJ Watt did in the NFL how stupid did Jerry have to be to pass on TJ Watt.

It’s way too early to label him a bust. He is learning new techniques(that he wasn’t asked to do in college) and it takes time for his position to develop. If nothing changes by the end of next season, then I’ll be concerned.
Hope he works out.

His draft profile had him listed as a day 2 pick though.

And he’s no where near taking over for Hankins.

They’ll have to extend Hankins with a new deal.

Low iq cowboy fans see Jordan Davis making plays this year after no showing last year and still don't get it. What a surprise
Low IQ posters act like Jordan Davis didn’t have a big impact last year. When he was on the field opponents averaged over 1 ypc less. He got banged up and hit the rookie wall but he had a far bigger impact as a rookie than Mazi.

If you put stock in PFF he graded out to a 71 last year.

Not saying Mazi won’t make a jump but from the little I’ve seen his athleticism and power doesn’t translate to the field. He’s slow off the ball and he doesn’t bring his feet with him.

It takes time for players to reach their better days -- I hope Mazi finds the best in himself sooner than later! Good luck in that regard, Dude!

First year DTs usually dont show up with splash plays out of the gate, takes time.
Dudes like Jalen Carter are really rare, Quinnen Williams only exploded after like year 3
Agree. I said it when Mazi was drafted...WAIT. Russell Maryland was the no.1 overall pick and it took him 3/4 of the year before he let you know he was going to be a Pro Bowler. How many losing season did Bob Lilly have before he became MR. Cowboy?

He might be an NFL fan along with a Cowboy fan. I always watch other games besides the Cowboys.
If you don't and you like to bet on games/players, then you're going to lose a lot of money.
I never bet on my Cowboys, it's a personal thing, but I have been very successful hitting Vegas on NFL wagers based solely on trying my best to watch all games, which is very difficult and time consuming.

We are a top 3 defense in just about every metric you can think of. Our other DT (Osa Odighizuwa) is playing like a legitimate top 5 Defensive Tackle in the NFL.
I think a lot of you people are older fans are used to when the Cowboys could essentially cheat and have all stars at every position. It does not work like that anymore. Yeah it sucks we can't just outbid people to have more talent on out rosters than other teams smh.
Thats a bit funny, us older Cowboy Fans actually understand that 1 Techs don't grow on trees and realize that it takes a bit to draft them and develop them.
Believe me, you get more patient as you age with this team.

NT's dont take 2-3 years to figure it out.

Unless they are a bust.

Bohanna was outplaying Mazi.

The draft has been over for 6 months.

If he hasnt figured it out by now, odds are he 'aint gonna.'

They'd have been better off keeping Bohanna, who can play DT1 and cost less $$$, and drafting a RB.
