I haven't diagnosed every one of his professional snaps but when I have noticed him on the field I've watched his get-off which has not improved in the last 3-1/2 years.
When we talk about time to develop, how many years does it take to teach a guy how to be quicker at the snap? Can he be taught to be quicker? Sort of concerns me and I try to be fair but I highly doubt at UM the coaches were saying, "Now Mazi, when you see the ball being snapped your best opportunity to make a play is to be the last guy to move". Hell, I'd love to see him anticipate and be offsides. I'll raise a glass when #58 gets flagged for jumping in neutral zone.
On the plus side, we have seen him leverage guys a few times and use that power we hear about. I'd imagine the next step will be to engage and shed cuz I really haven't seen much of that from him.
I'm far from being ready to cast the guy off but I do understand the frustrations from those that want to see "signs" from our first round selection. After all, when some talk of allotting three years for development are you thinking about what the rest of team might look like in 3 years? 12-5 windows usually don't last that long and while the window is open we need the big guy to start to wiggle through it.
