If we want to beat the 9ers, it's going to have to come down to scheme—not talent.

I'm not saying we don't have the talent to beat the 9ers, because I think they're beatable, and we definitely have the talent to get it done. But I think it will come down to scheme. In our first game against San Fran, we were still running the old, vanilla playbook, running Pollard up the middle, and calling pass plays straight from Kellen Moore's playbook.

The one TD we scored, came from motioning Turpin and allowing him to get downfield.

After that game, I came to the conclusion that McCarthy was lost, and in over his head. In fact, I think that actually was the case at that point in time. Then, we were told McCarthy stayed late at the office and had the assistant coaches stay as well, so they could figure out how to fix the offense.

Since that loss, everything has gotten better for the offense, including our red zone efficiency. And Dak is playing at a consistently high level. He even played well in the loss to Sillydelphia. We should have won that game.

Anyway, for us to win beat San Fran, it'll have to come down to creativity and scheme, especially on offense. I'm hoping our first outing against San Fran was a fluke and that our coaches were holding back and not showing their cards to San Fran.

I've been saying it since last year, motion, motion, motion. We have the personnel to move our players around pre-snap in order to confuse the defense, or make them hesitate about their assignment. San Fran's defense matches up well against the Cowboys offense. We're not likely to beat them with our old philosophy where they know what we're running and just have to stop it.

We need to keep them guessing and not allow them to get into a rhythm. The same ole plays, beginning the game by running our back into the A and B gaps likely will not work. We need to stay creative, run counters, reverses, WRs out of the backfield, roll Dak out, toss it, pitch it, and most importantly motion, motion, motion. If we can do that, we have as good of a chance as anyone to beat San Fran.

I know, I know. We need to beat Philly this week. I think we can, and I think it'll come down to some of the same things I'm mentioning about San Fran. I think we match up better against Philly but both teams are well-suited opponents as far as personnel.

The most important thing this week should be keeping our scheme as unpredictable and productive as possible. We can't let them know what we're running and say, now you have to stop us. We need to beat them with scheme, and passing to set up the run.
Fake News.

The way to beat the 49'ers is to get into the weight room because they are a very physical team that that will kick butt then take names.

The Cowboys have good game plans and schemes and are winning some good games as they should. The 40's just beat the snot out of the eagles, muscled them around, threw some eagles players off like a mosquito.

The Cowboys need to get into a mindset that we are the team to beat...stay strong, because that those bullies will try and punk you before the game even starts.

This next game against the birds, Hurts better not be tripping on the field he won't have the time. I want the birds to come to the Cowboys and watch his coach cry...

To beat SF on defense you have to do the following:

1) Get pressure up the middle and muddy the pocket so Purdy can not step up.

2) Like many QBs he is a middle of the field thrower so the middle needs to be minimized and make him throw outside the hashes.

3) Most importantly they are probably the biggest YAC team in the league. Sure tackling and YAC has to be minimized.

4) Take away CMC. again easier said than done.

That is what the defense has to do but in words Iron Mike Tyson, everybody has a plan till they get hit with one of these punches.

When Dallas gets punched in the mouth, punch back and not go into a shell. They have to match physical with physical Speed...this team is playing fast is. They don't need to mess around and be the fool. Sometimes the big strong bullies come to scare because they are so cool...hell, yeah they are big and strong...but are they fast? Come on down to TX...lets find out.

Well we have lost multiple times to them so if its about scheme we should have the blueprint but still keep on losing.

Find a different blueprint...throw the one you have away.

That's why I personally like Bland as my CB as opposed to Diggs (as much as I love Diggs) to match up against the 9ers. He's just a better tackler.
Diggs can tackle too, this nonsense that he can't is just a myth.

Also not sure why it's one or the other. Can't we be happy to have both

Absolutely. They may very well have more talent. Maybe.. That said, they aren't that much better to where we should be blown out. It's a match up and style issue. You overcome that with coaching and scheme. We have quite a bit of talent as well. We just need to use it effectively.

I doubt we out scheme SF. Talent wise they’re better as well. It’s execution that will give us a chance.
Look at Jim Schwartz. He's 8-1 against Shanny.

That is based on scheme as well as personnel from several different teams.

Our defense in both playoff games actually played pretty well. We have also done a pretty good job vs cmc.

The last game the problem was the 49ers got the ball out very quick…. Teams that have done that recently against us have had success against us

I’m seeing more posts from fans worrying about San Francisco than Philly. We better worry about Philly. The Cowboys are in a must win situation next Sunday night. A loss pretty much kills any chance of winning the NFC East. We need to take care of our division first.

We have the talent, just need to execute better and stop the stupid penalties. Pass rush needs to work as well. Be consistent.
I like your optimism but IMO the Cowboys dont match up well (lack of talent) in the trenches. Both the Niners and Eagles are really good on the OL and DL while the Cowboys just dont have the beef. They cant stop the run game and we all seen how Seattle tore apart the secondary last week. At this point I have more faith in the Offense than the defense and expect another high scoring game this week. DAK is gonna have to pass to set up the run and run on the edges as much as possible as this OL just cant make holes up the middle.

Great post. You hit the nail on the head. We usually make it so easy for SF to pin back their ears and attack us. Meanwhile, our defenders are running around out there chasing ghosts with their misdirection. A good scheme to keep their defense guessing will give us a good chance to match their offense.

Ww always struggle with physical teams. When a team takes it to us, we rarely rise to the occasion. I think that the team got some swagger because they were jawing with the Seahawks who intentionally made it super physical. You could see it from the beginning where in the first series the Seahawk DB drove Lamb into the ground on the tackle. At the end even Dak was flexing on them. Fergeson took an intentioal shot to the head tht should have been flagged and he got up and signaled first down to the DB's face like he was insignificant. We need that swagger and meanness. This team has to rise to the occasion and play the bully from time to time. If we can be the bully in SF we can win the game, we have the talent.

Good post , Dallas I feel needs to bring some misdirection on offense, to counter these good teams.Dallas needs to use its speed, to its advantage. And here lately they seem to be doing just that .Running Pollard outside is working,Cooks is beginning to be a factor.Find ways to get your speedy players out in space. The Cowboys are evolving as a team , and can beat anybody .If they don't beat themselves.

I would attack that team through the air with quick deep passes and light their as*ses right up.
I'm gonna try put 40+ on 'em and let the dogs loose on defense.

Unleash the speed off the edges and make it a nightmare for Purdy.
