It is a consideration some observers will overlook or simply ignore. It was one of the reasons why Belichick quit the very first day the Jets hired him in favor of the autonomy Robert Kraft promised he would receive if he did. And it is definitely something to think about when weighing whether Belichick would come to Dallas in any coaching capacity.
I actually think Belechek would be a good fit here. We don’t have a GM. It’s just Jerry and his boy. If Belechek doesn’t land a job and MM doesn’t advance the franchise forward, why not bring in Bill?

Two of his three seasons in Tampa were losing seasons and he was 4-7 as the Falcons interim HC in 2020. How could anyone in Atlanta be excited about that hire?

Belichick isn’t going to be a good fit anywhere without Brady. Look no further than his head coaching history.

The Hoodie is out looking in. Can you imagine him as an analyI
I actually do. I have watched some broadcast stuff with him, and the personality is totally different than as a coach. If I was him this would be the way to go, coaching loyalty no longer exists and he has done everything possible. If no job this year and he doesn't retire, keep an eye on us replacing MM with him

Bill on the phone right now trying to convince Buffalo to to fire McDermott.

Bill doesnt care about full control anymore...he just wants the most wins title.

He's not going to go to a dumpster fire, though.

Decent talent, decent QB is all he wants.

Good hire. He wasn't ready first time around but has put in the work since then.
Sure , but he’s got Desmond Ridder at Qb at the moment. So, he’s not going to win unless they upgrade that position a lot.

Belichick could make a strong argument he is a better general manager than Jones but Jones will not bring in Belichick partially for that reason.

Belechek wouldn’t demand the GM title. He would simply lobby Jerry for the players he wants and doesn’t want just like Parcels did so Jerry feels included. Jerry is too old to push back on Belechek.

The only reason Jerry wouldn’t do this is , once again , fear of losing credit for success. Ironically, both men are chasing the same thing. Belechek wants to win one without Brady and Jerry wants to win one that doesn’t have Jimmy Johnson’s finger prints all over it.

Belichick was the defacto GM for the Patriots. He did not hold the title but everyone knew who was the actual GM in New England. It is true Jones will not share credit but it is extremely unlikely he would give any perception of autonomy to Belichick for that reason.

Heck. The man currently has Will McClay, the person with the most comparable level of automony right now to what Belichick might be given, buried within his organizational structure. It is even too laughable to actually view on the DallasCowboys.com Executives webpage.

I doubt Belichick would agree on being similarly dissed for his input in the franchise. Of course, I would not mind seeing Belichick added to the franchise, in order to observe exactly how Belichick would be seemingly treated, relative to how McClay has been treated.

Unfair or not, it is also possible ageism is playing a part in Belichick's chances of getting hired. There have not been very many 71-year old incoming head coaches or general managers in NFL's history. Belichick has arguably entered the eligible hired consultant phase of his long NFL career.

But unlike McLay, you can’t hide Belechek. Both parties would have to come together hat in hand and realize they need each other. I think it could work in the same way Parcels worked but I think Jerry and Belechek have a better relationship.
