Exactly..........why do you think 99% of college teams elect to play defense first in OT..........that way in know if you need 3 or 7 to win when you get the ball.

Huge mistake by Shanny, not sure what he was thinking or maybe he just didnt understand the new postseason OT rules since this is the first game played under the new rules.
He probably thought the Chiefs D was gassed. Wanted to take advantage.

Only thing I can come up with.

It’s like teams forget how to play football against the Chiefs. I’ve never seen anything like it.

There was a sequence of about 7 possessions in the third quarter where they traded three outs along with the muffed punt. The 49ers had something like three possessions that were all 3 and out after 3 straight passes. Shannahan has the offensive player of the year with McCafferey and would not run it. Same thing happened with Baltimore when they had something like 8 running attempts minus the Jackson scrambles.

This place would be burning to the ground if Dallas had that running game and (in my opinion) MVP running back, and then would not run it in the Super Bowl.

I’m not an old school “establish the run and play defense while taking the game back to leather helmets” kind of guy, but even I know you have to stick with what your team is good at.

Exactly.

I'm glad I'm not a loser like you who takes solace in anything less than a Super Bowl win.

"B-b-but at least we're a well-run organization!"

I don’t see the need to take personal shots on the internet; not a very good look and it’s pretty foolish. You obviously don’t understand how hard it is to win, especially when you’re going up against a top 3 head coach and QB in the SB. Championship programs are built over time, and the Niners have consistently been there with a mediocre Jimmy G and Mr. fricking irrelevant. Go ahead though, spin it any way you’d like because you’re still upset about how the team finished this year.

I was just creeping on some 49er fan sites. Wow. They’re not happy. If I didn’t hate the 49ers so much I’d feel sorry for them. But it’s interesting that most of the fans want Shanny gone and Brock not resigned when his contract is up. I read a lot of words like “training wheels”, “weak QB”, “loser coach”. Then some fans are attacking other fans for not being loyal enough and being upset with Shanny. I swear if you covered the names of the coach and the players you wouldn’t know if you were on a Cowboys site or a 49ers site. Oh, lol, they feel Lynch is a bad GM.

Just goes to show you at the end of the year there’s only one group of fans that is happy with their QB and Coach.

Mahomes effect. Teams think they are fighting a Superhero when they are playing Chiefs so they do silly stuff because of the fear factor

Are they wrong though?

Shanahan has now thrown away three double digit leads in Superbowls all largely due to an obsession in not running the ball with a strong running game.

Purdy is an ok QB but he isn't a guy to win you a game when needed. Much like Prescott. He's the exact type of QB you DO NOT pay big money otherwise the team around them isn't strong enough to make up for their deficiencies.

With that said the bonehead who gifted the Chiefs 7 points on special teams, kicker who missed the extra point and Greenlaw going down with the Chiefs struggling to move the ball beforehand all played huge contributory factors in the 49ers blowing the game. It wasn't just on Shanahan.

Purdy is in his second year and was 7th round pick let’s not compare him to overpaid, inevitable eight year loser. Dakota won’t be winning anything not this year, next or the next just like he hasn’t won a big game his entire life

I agree - I meant when it comes to paying Purdy...you dont't. Prescott is a loser - I don't disagree with you on that in any way.

No I don’t think they’re wrong. They’ve suffered a Super Bowl drought longer than ours. Brock is Dak 2.0. He needs a strong team around him to play well. When his RB fumbles and defense falters he can’t put the team on his back. I would not want to pay him 60 million a year. Same argument I have for Dak. Paying Brock 60 APY would cripple the team. This year was his shot. Next year his window is open but not as good as this year. After they resign him then their roster will have more holes and less likely to win.

Unless you’re Mahomes, Allen, Burrow I think you go cheap at QB and build a strong team around them, JMO.

That’s actually what I landed on, too. Overthinking it and psyching themselves out.

Or maybe it’s symptomatic of Shanahan since this is the third Super Bowl he has refused to run the ball.
