I'm with you guys. I'd cut Lance and Rush because dak doesn't need any more pressure because of his past. I'd do what they did when the players union went on strike. I'd hire many guys who were cut at the final 53 cut down. I'd pay them 30 or 40 thousand a season. They would be hungry to play in the NFL and would work their butts off. dak and a bunch of scrubs could be a Super Bowl dream. daks that's good.

1) Extend Dak.
2) Cut or trade Dak and start Trey Lance in 2024 to see what you got.

If they start Dak without extending him just to move on after the season, it will be the incorrect answer.
Blimey!
If Lance started in 2024 it would be blatant tanking and the NFL would take A long look.

All of what's going on to this point is a precursor to going to Dak with a negotiating strategy of "give us a bone". Jerry hasnt the kahoona's to go no. 2).

Trade Trey Lance right now for a 4th round draft pick. Trade him while several teams are still looking for a young QB with some kind of potential. Trade Lance to Dan Quinn for the Commanders mid 3rd round pick or to the Vikings for their early 4th round pick.
He's going to cost $22m in 2025. That's hardly cost effective, on a QB with next to no experience.

Cowboys would never bench a player who just made All Pro. They are stupid but not that stupid.
Yeah, hes not so stupid that he wont give 60 million per year to a QB that has led the team to 2 playoff victories in 8 years starting

2 in 8 years starting

Thats an elite QB and Jerry knows it

Elite

Deserves 60 million per year

Yep, that Jerry, hes not stupid

The only move that would make sense as far as benching him would be to try and force him to waive his NTC. Kind of like what Denver did to Russell. Outside of trying that there’s no way you’d bench him. I also agree it would be stupid to bench him as a negotiating tool. Either start the rebuild or extend him.
Agree, but Jerry wont want to lose the PR battle. If Dak's benched or agrees to waive his NTC, he'll make sure that it's Dak's (not his) choice or fault because of loss of form.

If we cut Dak we don't even get a comp pick out of him.

The problem is the "no trade" clause. Dak can only be traded with his consent.

Hence let the offense leave and give Dak the choice of playing a contract year with a depleted offense or agreeing to be traded.
Agree with all of that. I wonder if we allowed the offense leave (and we go BPA at no.24 in the draft, maybe DL) whether Dak would agree to a contract that paid him the money....but DIDNT contain a NTC.....or as I suspect he wants to remain in Dallas and doesnt want to cede anything.

When digging the hole....the best first step is to stop digging. It doesnt solve the problem ...yet.
Another analogy is a remodel. Things will get much worse before you can make it beautiful.

Totally disagree. Extending Dak at this point would be dumb IMHO. What do we gain? We aren't going to use the cap space to sign any big $ players and even if we want to take on a player we can clear cap space by re-working other deals. We are much better off letting him play out the contract and move all of that dead space off the cap going forward. #2 is also not smart unless they already know they don't want Dak going forward and I suspect having Lance on the roster for half the season and never making him the #2 shows their thoughts on him are the same as SFs when they traded him away. Dak gives you your best chance to win this year even if his playoff performances lately have been poor. They should do exactly what they seem to be doing. Let him play it out. Then decide next offseason if you are going to re-sign him or let him go elsewhere. The only other option that makes any sense is to trade him if you get value back - significantly more than the 3rd rounder you would get as a comp pick

The Class with Lawrence and company was rated higher and look how that turned out. Dak is better then every quarterback in that class still.
I'm ready to move on from Dak if there is a QB in the next few years who is guaranteed to be better than he could ever be at his highest potential. But also have questions about how Stephen and Jerry would go about drafting the next QB. Would they just try to select a QB from the highest graded college prospects who experts give the best chances to become elite level or next to elite level NFL franchise QBs. Or would they in believing their way is the best way to go about trying to win a Super Bowl. try to be different and draft a lower graded or later round QB, thinking he has just enough talent to be able to still win enough games to keep the Cowboys relevant?

I ask this because of Stephen saying how their way of going "all in" is different from how the rest of the NFL does it. So wondering if this would translate in the process of how they'll draft the next QB. Especially if they are looking to save as much money as possible in the future. And figure they can do so by drafting a QB in the later round since contracts get less expensive the later a rookie player is drafted.
