Rapoport: Cowboys haven't offered Dak a contract extension

What's the downside to letting him play out his contract? It's actually a pretty good way to play it.

The only real option is to cut him, but what does that get you? The cap hit is still there and spreading it out doesn't matter if your resigned to not competing for a SB next season, which certainly seems to be the case.

Trading him requires his approval, and who is going to give up much for a guy they know will be available next season?

I can make a case for just cutting him, but I can also make a case for letting him play the last year of his contract. It really doesn't make much difference.

Who are these veterans your going to trade for a haul to facilitate a rebuild? This isn't the horrible team that Walker played on. Not smart to trade your cornerstone players who are still on the front end of their careers. Who is worth much of anything after Parsons, Lamb and maybe Diggs? There goes most of your offense and most of your defense.

This team is in good shape to reset at QB, fill the roster through the draft and potentially be in a position to compete in 2 or 3 seasons.

And yes, I know the chances the Jones can actually make any of that happen is slim, but a well run organization could, and its a smart play.
A well run Organization would not be in this situation.

I don’t think you need a haul. I’m trading my vets so I’m bad enough to get a top 5 pick next year. This team as currently constructed is at least a 9-8 team.

As far as the downside of letting Dak play out this deal? I feel the longer you wait the more the price is.

We had like 7 or 8 blowouts last season. Either way Rush is nothing to me. Good backup. But he ain’t Elway. So you believe Lance was worse then Rush?
The team won 12 and lost 5. How did they have 7 or 8 blowouts last season? Did you flunk math?

A trade could easily happen I believe. IF Dak accepts it.

Teams would much rather negotiate a deal with a trade than wait a year and battle it out with other teams in free agency.

There’s always a sucker out there willing to be had.
If I could find a partner I'd send him packing for anything I could get.

I think that's the least likleist outcome though. Unfortunately, the sucker is running our favorite team.

We want the top 5 pick in 2026.

We’re coming for Arch.

The biggest screw up was waiting so long to sign Dak. They got taken to the cleaners and now have to rip the band aid off because they know Dak can't win it all. They made a bet and lost.

And then still have no plan to replace him.

Who would you trade that you're not going to miss, or that your new QB is not going to miss? Anybody who is in the three year plan stays. Makes no sense to get rid of those guys.

The price doesn't matter if you have no intention of resigning him. Somebody else is going to pay it.

Owner Jerry Jones said, “We are where we are,..."

Some might say that's a mighty cryptic statement.

However, that's just Jerry being Jerry and toying with the masses.

Actually, the real biggest screw up was signing Dak in the first place.

We will have wasted 4 years when we could’ve been looking for a legit QB during that time.

Stephen said they will reach out at camp. We just have to wait and see.

You are the only one who probably hated Dak from the start..

Well first off let’s not make personal attacks and let’s keep it football. Secondly, what exactly are you asking? How many blowouts did we have last season?
