The best leverage Dallas has if they want to use it is the threat of sitting Dak for a year forcing him to waive his no-trade clause. I don't buy that Dallas is a great place to play for a QB. Dallas QBs get more hate than anywhere else in America. Dak could go up to Minnesota and be a fan favorite, for example.

But, I don't see the benefit of sitting Dak for a year. It would look bad for the franchise for one thing, if that matters to Jerry.

What Jerry needs to do, if he has no intention of re-signed Dak, is sit down with Dak and be honest. Tell him they don't think they can pay him $60 million and win. It's just the way the league is right now. Tell him they want to move on and that means playing Lance or someone else at QB. Tell Dak they won't re-sign him next year but if he wants to work out a trade with some other team the Cowboys will accommodate him otherwise he will go through 2024 on the bench.

Now is the time to do it. After the draft is too late.

Jerry needs to tell Dak his best offer. For me it would be $50 million including incentives.
Todd France is not going to respond to ignorant threats. Most likely he’s told the Cowboys, this close to free agency, he and Dak will not be signing any extension at this time. They likely have decided it’s in their best interest to negotiate Dak’s next contract as an unrestricted free agent. It does not mean he won’t sign with the Cowboys. This is more than likely the last player contract Prescott will ever sign. It makes sense to make it what Dak is most comfortable with. It will be somewhere between $50 and $60 million AAV like other top NFL quarterbacks. Jerry Jones can decide if he’s in or out. But the Cowboys will play Dak if they don’t cut him.

Is Dak really going to step on the field and risk injury? Just doesnt seem like big time players do this much anymore. Wouldnt you think France is in Dak's ear about it too? France commission on Dak at 220,000,000 is 6,600,000. If Dak gets hurt and signs a 140,000,000 contract...France commission is only 4,200,000.

France has a lot to lose.

I watch to see dak get some awesome stats. I don't care if the team wins. dak getting stats is a win for me. The choking doesn't bother me, the team should have carried him better or made him sit on the bench during playoff games.

Dak risks injury every time he plays. Cousins, five years older, coming off a significant injury, gets $100 million guaranteed. Yes, Dak will play and risk injury. He’s not going to come all this way simply to slink away like some coward. France has lots of clients. I doubt he advises any of his clients not to play. Cowboys fans want to get over on Dak. When does the bitterness end? Dak Prescott is going to be well taken care of by some NFL team. Dallas is either going to sign him or watch him leave. So what. The Cowboys may have to go find another quarterback. Other teams do it. The Cowboys lost to the Packers in the playoffs. Dak Prescott didn’t lose a thing. That can either bother you or you can move on. May I suggest stop worrying about Dak’s personal income, forget about trading him because he controls that, the Cowboys don’t, and look forward to what the Dallas Cowboys plan on doing to build a competitive roster with or without their current QB1, like every other NFL team is doing.

I'm not sure what you're referring to you think that Prescott would hold out that's ridiculous he played under the franchise tag got hurt and still got paid a bunch it's not hurting his chances of getting a big payday... I realize he was younger but all these rumor mills about some of our players who might hold out because they're only on one year deals why don't our coach hold out then I think Mike McCarthy should make a stand he should hold out I mean come on they're being paid big time money he's making$40 million this year he's gonna hold out in case of injury?? Just go insure yourself and what not the other players and coaches have had to play on one year deals it ain't lame duck,

you ever hear the word contract year how does that happen if lots of players weren't playing on their last year of their deals???

yup sitting out sure killed D. Watson wew Dak taking a year with no hits on the body after an MVP race season will be done for in FA next offseason...you do actually follow the NFL and the offseasons and how the QB market is..right?
Exactly. Dak would probably love it. The rest of the team not so much as they will be in tank mode.

It’s cute how paying a player what he is worth is considered a discount.
Exactly... I am not sure why anyone including Dak and His agent believe he should be paid top4 QB money.... but you watch, if he does in fact sign a new deal in Dallas, it will be the largest contract in NFL history.

yep like when dak got hurt and the team went into tank mode for Rush.
Rush was only needed and expected to get us through a 3-5 game stretch... and he did. Had dak been lost for the season, our season would not have gone well.

And people thought I was nuts for not wanting to artificially pad a players stats.

Sit Dak while he is under contract to "Prove," some point and watch how fast the entire team falls apart. That locker room would be TOXIC.

The leverage is no other team will pay him what he values his self as.. would he rather make 40 million in Dallas or 40 Million in Oakland?

They also know Dak is the best QB on the team, and sitting him would not be because you are trying to put the best team on the field. That would not sit well with players as they see the team sitting at 2-5.

I think you are mistaken. The guy just finished 2nd in the MVP voting. You can dismiss that all you want because you are slanted due to his playoff failures, but he would get serious bucks from other teams if he was a free agent.

yeah i was saying they clearly said they were only interested in "TD's and Bags of Money!!!"..i think the team already has a bad culture losing would just bring it out louder during the season.
