Both Jones' are unsure with how to proceed on direction of the team

Has there ever been a clear direction Jerry and Stephen were taking the team? If there has been a plan I would sure like to hear what it is.

They typically have a strong inclination as to what to do at the QB position since Romo started. Extend the QB contract-surround with more/better talent. Find better coordinators. Fire coaches that are not successful. They have adopted a draft and development style and largely ignore big free agents from other teams. They extend stars on the team for way too long and ride it out. They do some weird stuff at times, but have loosely followed these tenets. Not this off-season though. Tons of their own guys leaving and not having proven replacements or upgrades.

I think we are getting to unfamiliar territory for the Jones’ in how to direct/plan for the team’s future. I think both wanted to see more playoff success this past season-not just because of stroking their egos but also because it would make marketing and future planning so much easier. If any season was set up for a deep playoff run (at least CCG)-it was this past one. Don’t have to face SF till that game. Plus, you could endlessly market the fact that you finally broke the 28 year drought even if SF destroyed the team yet again.

I think that GB game actually bummed Jerry out. I think he and Stephen see that the squad has plateaued with Dak, and last season was the best chance they will ever get to market him as a guy that can help advance Dallas in the postseason. That makes planning any future with Dak way more tenuous. It is extremely unlikely that Dak plays more than 5 seasons as a starter (and I think it likely that could plummet if he gets poor or just average offensive line play even for one season-which might happen this season).

I think both Jones’ are unsure with how to even approach a retool season without an apparent future QB to plan around. It has been awhile since they had to start over with a complete unknown (before Romo).

If what I say is true, we fans will not get any public acknowledgement from either Jones (because of the ensuing marketing disaster). They will speak in meaningless platitudes, but may not extend Dak before the season (all but assuring his last season with Dallas).
Excellent analysis. IMO, Jerry has only been part of 2 intentional rebuilds.
1. When he bought the team, Jimmy led a brilliant and fast rebuild from 1989-91.
2. When Parcells was hired after going 15-33 under Dave Campo, he led a rebuild between 2003-06.

IMO, those are the only two times Jerry has been committed to an intentional rebuild. There was an accidental rebuild in 2016 when they had the quick infusion of new blood in that draft including Dak.

So in my view, Jerry is now looking at one of two things- either a 2016 style draft (that might include a QB he got lucky with again) or the beginning of an intentional rebuild.

If it’s a rebuild there is one HUGE problem for Jerry and SJ: neither has ever led a successful rebuild here. Jimmy and the Big Tuna led both rebuilds of the past. The Jones boys literally don’t know how to do it and although their monstrous egos will never allow them to admit it, they know they don’t know how.

If this is the case, then they will draft BPA next week and not try to fill the positions with the least depth
The Cowboys have put themselves in a good position, at least in this regard. The positions they need are deep in this draft. I'm not sure it will be too obvious if they are going for need or BPA unless they do something stupid like take an RB in the 1st.

Jerry doesn't have a solution to what happened last year in the playoffs. I think he realized he's put a lot into getting nothing. I think you are right that he will take dak back on the cheap but that's not happening.

As usual the fan base and the drama media does not understand what is really going on with the Cowboys. Jerry is telling the truth when he says the Cowboys are “All in”. The Cowboys are all in on this season. Everyone coaches, players, and probably executives are on a last ride type prove it or lose it year. It is telling that the Cowboys have not talked contract with not only Dak, but CeeDee and Parsons as well. Buckle up boys because starting draft week the 2024 Cowboys will be playing for their careers. Can’t say I won’t enjoy next season win or lose.

I think most fans and the media understand the results this front office has been getting for three decades.

OH, another Dak thread...awsome

so one correction:
the Squad has plateaued with Jones. did we not see the same results with Romo? and before that?

what do you think is going to change after Dak is gone? do you trust this front office? honestly...do you?

I think it could have been explained better, he just left it out there and we took it as we're making improvements to the team by any means necessary. Maybe we were wrong for assuming this because in all phases, they know what they meant by it. They sure know how to get us vulnerable fans!

Jerry doesn’t want to move on from Dak, but similar to Garrett, there reaches a point when they can’t sell it anymore. I think they want Dak back but only at a certain number, then they can sell it that way. They got a bargain!

In order for that to happen, he has to have a down year, and they seem perfectly willing to do all they can to make that happen.
This^^^^^I do believe they have told him, to do some serious postseason damage (NFCCG and/or Super Bowl), we will damn near give you a blank check and we can sell it to fans/media.

Well we know that will never change until the fan base starts closing their wallets. If we lose next season, all that will be left is the Joneses. Hopefully that will be an Emperor has no clothes moment for fans and the media.

I hate to give certain board members credit but in truth follow the money. The Joneses have made no extension offers to anyone. The Joneses are salesmen, there not going to come out in say that. All in is as close as you will get.

What gets them the most in revenue. That's their long-term goal. Championships don't matter as long as they can cheap out, be relevant, and earn lots of money.

Hmmm, yeah that’s also confusing because they had the opportunity to grab some one year contracts with Tyron Smith and Jonathan Hankins at the very least for some relatively cheap veteran help/depth. If this was about proving it this year-I would have expected those one year contracts to happen. It seems more like they are just wanting to force the guys on their last year to play/coach their final contract year and then start future planning next season. I would say this is an intentional sabotage from my perspective (and if it is, they cannot admit it).

LMAO @ all the nonsense from Dak "detractors" continuously spewing the same bunk of how if Dak is not extended before the season starts, it will assure Dak will be playing his last season as a Dallas Cowboy.

The desperation is at an all time high.
:muttley:
Would you show so much QB support if TL was named the starter by MM or would you be here daily bashing him like you did TR.

Where did I state things would improve after Dak is gone? Quit arguing with something not happening. Read the content.

I’m stating the team has plateaued with Dak. I don’t need to defend the position because it is obvious fact (1+1=2). But, read the rest of the content-this is more about what the Jones’ are planning to do at the QB position if they do not extend him and how the roster might be altered going forward (not how the situation gets better).

like I said, another Dak thread in disguise. where is the confusion in that?

Trance is a BUST. Cowboys aren't going anywhere with him but losing their way towards a top 5 pick in the draft. Let's be real now.

What is interesting is the thought that somehow fans would lose their minds if Dak does get extended. All it would mean is more status quo for a few more seasons-this last or previous season is the ceiling. Not like Cowboys’ fans are not used to it by now.
