They can kick their *** because they are bigger faster stronger today.
No you're totally wrong they're used to getting their *** kissed
Because there are soft group that plays in a kinder gentler NFL that's a shadow of its former self.

Bigger showboaters faster talkers and stronger contract negotiators.

But still a bunch of kitty cats on the field

#2 and #10 are so true and I was always taught to play like you have been there before. Larry Fitzgerald was one the last great player who would score a TD and give the ball to the ref. In an interview he was asked why he didn’t celebrate like the other wrs do. He replied I play like I have been in the end zone before.

You know what most of y'all seem like you sound like the people who used to say well back in my day you know grandfathers and fathers yeah sports was very different back then you do realize that the NFL we're forced to grow you know the Dallas Cowboys are owned by Jerry Jones because they were going bankrupt the league had to make changes to make it more exciting to fans and they made changes to the rules and now it's a different game but it's still the NFL which is in the US I believe still the number one sport it is king right now...

But now instead of a bunch of millionaires who struggled to keep the teams afloat back in the 70s have the league making money hand over fist and it's a pop as popular as ever I mean sometimes this stuff just happens just got to roll with change...

Think about how tough it is right now for other leagues like the USFL the USFL the AA whatever and like the Europe league and they can't match the energy of the NFL they're trying really hard now they're trying to combine forces but they're still very small it's failed because they don't know how to be the NFL.

So yeah you wanna go all the way back to the 60s and 70s when there were less rules and people were clotheslining people and knocking people out they were losing their teeth most of them had real jobs and football was like a side gig I mean we could do that but that's not how it is anymore it may have been cool back then and I for sure hate all the rule changes especially on defense it's making the league soft but the fact that that it's raking in money hand over fist and now a bunch of not just one billionaires there are billionaires that are like 10 times billionaires that own these teams I can only imagine what it cost him to get in the league by a team put up a stadium things will always be different when it comes to becoming a profitable business versus just a sport.. Back then you can make a little money at it but you played more for the love of the game and now you play for the game but you also play for the money....
IMO it was PSL'S, and the merger with AFL, the creation and promotion of the SB , which led to ever increasing ratings and tv contracts
that saved the nfl and made it profitable.
After that it is just greed to make more money each year.

The internet has played a big part, since 2000 as far as promotion and increasing interest.

The super bowl though was partly luck, someone coined that name early on and nfl wisely kept that name to refer to it.
otherwise it would just be the NFL Championship game lol.

Noticed he didn't add more competitive who in today's NFL wants to win as bad as Roger Staubach did.
For that matter who's faster than Bob Hayes.
Who's stronger than Larry Allen.
stronger and faster doesnt win games by itself.
The older days guys were a lot tougher, with more team pride, and desire to win.

Imagine if the 78 cowboys played the 2024 cowboys, but with the rules like they were in 78 ! lol
Head slaps were legal and so were many other things.
so even if the 24 team is bigger and faster they couldnt take the punishment.

This punk *** team we have now would quit before halftime.
After Harvey Martin and Randy White got done with Zeke he wouldn't be saying feed me he would be tapping out and giving his reps to somebody else.
On the other side Tony dorsett would be running through the sieve of a defense we have that can't stop the run.
It would be a total joke this team has no heart where the 78 team had no quit.

I don't know if there is any film on it but if you ever see the cameras pan the Cowboys player's faces during the national anthem prior to that game then you had absolutely no doubt who the winner was going to be.

I will never forget that.

Roger Staubach looked like he was ready for a street fight. He wanted a throw down. Captain America, Mr. "Aw Shucks", Nice Guy had an expression on his face like he wanted to rush onto the field and commence with bare fists. The whole team looked completely jacked.

Help me find the footage, I swear it's true.

Most of our fans probably couldnt even name our owner then.

It was our greatest era despite the heartbreaking championship losses. And we can credit an owner who stayed totally out of the way.

Yes the complete opposite of the team now and their latest playoff game against Green Bay
.
The whole team looked completely clueless with CD lamb pouting on the sideline what an embarrassment.

So this popped up on youtube and Ive been watching it over last 2 nights. Here are some observations:

1) The field sucks. Worse than HS fields are today.
2) Absolutely no trash talk, celebrating routine plays.... NONE. Player gets a sack and gets up and goes to the huddle.Team gets a turnover and nobody running into the endzone doing stupid crap. Its GREAT!
3) Cowboys RB are in motion all over the place right up till the snap.
4)Game is much more fast paced. No extended commercials.
5)Punters suck compared to todays guys. Ram punter was avg 35 yards with a 2 second hang time.....lol
6) No begging for PI on every pass play.
7)1 replay and move on
8)QBs when on sidelines are actually standing and watching the game. You NEVER see that today
9) Charlie Waters was as good as I remember.
10) This one is worth repeating. A TD is scored and they go about their business. No dance, no trash talk, no running to find mama in the stands..... oh it is wonderful.
11) OJ Simpson in several commercials........ knowing his future was a little strange.
12) No game clock is show the entire damn game. It is very frustrating having no clue about game or play clock.

Pretty interesting watching this since I was only 8 when this was played.

78 Title Game
I watch a ton of games from the late 70s and early 80s on youtube. But you forgot one thing. Did you not notice how much more violent they are? That's the one thing that stands out to me. But all of your points are spot on.

If you want to watch a great game, Chargers at Cowboys 1980. Easy to find. It's the game where either Wes Chandler or Charlie Joiner catches a pass over the middle and gets destroyed. But he holds on to the ball despite being out cold. Then comes back in later in the game!!! But the game was great.

Dear old lad, was that the loss when Tex Schram famously said, walking to the tunnel, "We won't be playing with the same deck of cards!"

yes it is, but this was true in the 90's too, no score or clock ,qrt shown.
But now days it is over kill , too much on the screen.

other than that though the older games are more fun to watch as the players were not big divas back then.
The nfl though encourages all the celebration crap though.
It was really annoying to not have the score or clock on the screen. That made no sense.

We had to rely on the announcers more for the clock during the bulk of the game. They would show it at the end of the half usually. But overall, we had to pay attention. It was harder in basketball back then because of the frequent score changes.
Also how about no first down line?

20 consecutive winning seasons , 13 championship appearances including 2 NFL title games, 5 Super Bowls and 2 SB wins in 29 years is >>>>>>>greater than 4 championship appearances and 3 Super Bowl titles in 35 years.

The fact you’d consider this era with Jethro greater than the Tex/Tom era says all we need to know. I’ll give you a pass since you didn’t live thru that era.
