Dak: Just how people feel - What it says if the contract isn't done before season

If it isn’t done he may want to explore free agency. It’s looking more and more like the ball is in his court. The Cowboys would have to offer him at the very least $60 million per season and he could very likely get more than that in free agency. He’s got a ton of leverage and the only risk he would be taking is if he were to suffer a serious injury.

Looking more like? Where you been the last year

$60m is probably the floor if he's a UFA, even if he does get injured.

Players of that quality just don't become free agents, especially not quarterbacks

He didn’t have the leverage last year that he does now. The clock is ticking, and if he enters the regular season which is less than two weeks away without a new contract, he may play out the season and explore free agency. We’re almost certain to lose him if that happens. No one thought he wouldn’t have a new contract by now.

It's only leverage if the Cowboys actually want him back which it's looking more and more like they don't (fingers crossed!)

If he were to suffer a serious injury, as in career threatening, that could certainly change a lot of things. Anything involving his throwing elbow or shoulder that requires surgery could definitely deter teams.

....Jerry already commented on this. "you've got to do the work, in order to get paid". Was his quote, or something along those lines.

Like I said, win in the playoffs and theyll be plenty of cheese on the plate.

If they didn’t want him back, they wouldn’t be negotiating with him. Look how long it took just to extend CeeDee. It took a long time to extend Dak the first time. We ended up having to franchise him twice. Some reports say he could get as much as $70 million per season in free agency. It’s certainly not like the Cowboys don’t want him, but they have to be able to pay him. Stephen said on two occasions it’s going to be up to Dak. This isn’t a player that’s just looking to reset the market, he could be looking to blow away the market.
