Ben Johnson's price tag

Folks have to understand that no hot coaching candidate is ever getting hired here for several reasons which have been discussed to death. Jane Slater did a good job kind summarizing everything on Voch's podcast with Broaddus. When/if McCarthy is fired, you'll get another older retread who is desperate for another job.

Belichick says hello .......lol

Rusty''s rebuild plan thread mentioned him as a prime choice for Dallas's next HC.

But I think there's something a whole lot of people are leaving out.
And that's the fact that he's 2 deep at RB, 3 good receivers, a top 3 to 5 TE and the best o-line in football.

As I've said in another thread, I'm not trying to take anything away from the guy because I'm sure his coaching may stand on its own merit.

But what I will say is that he is definitely a product of a very good offensive environment with the players I mentioned.

I want a coach who wants to prove himself, not one that wants to get paid like he already has.

If the coach is not desperate for success, his players won't be either.
Exactly, McCarthy is just here to collect a paycheck. We need a young, hungry, intelligent, and innovative head coach.

:clap:been saying the thing......hell, any OC can succeed with that much talent. Let's put it another way, how well would he do with this team right now?

If true, this should kill any talk him being the Cowboys next HC

Hmmm… I’m going to call BS. Johnson currently is making 1.95m a year as one of the highest paid coordinators. Campbell is currently making 4m. The current going price for an entry level/first time head coach is 5 to 6m! Reid and McVey were able to negotiate those contracts because they had a “recent” proven record as leverage. If Johnson said 15 it’s because he didn’t want the job and saying so got him out the door.
Even as one of the most sought after candidates next season I’d surprised if anyone was willing to go more than 7.5-8 and that’s pushing it considering how many first time head coaches fail!

That's what he was charging Washington. He probably didn't want the job but if they offered him $15 million he kind of would have had to have said yes.

Didn't Deion Sanders once say that if Detroit had drafted him he would have charged them so much they would have had to put him on lay away?

It should prove interesting to see what happens whenever a potential new coach gets screened by this FO. Will Jerry & Stephen opt to make an unusual exception to hire a young one with a promising knowledge of innovative offense? Will it be an older, far more experienced one that is simply desperate to find a professional head coaching opportunity? Inquiring minds want to know! I hope it's for the former, rather than later. ;)

You’re getting Witten and you’re going to like it (according to Jerry)
You may be kidding but I could see something goofy like that, mainly because Jerry could take credit for finding his own unknown young coach - like Garrett. Otherwise, it will be a retread with past success who is currently out of the league.

This.

It's kinda a useless discussion. And not only from the Dallas side of things...Ben will have his choice of where he wants to go. It won't be here.

It's not a money thing at all, IMO. Jerry doesn't have a problem spending big to win (despite what gets said around here). It's about control and who gets credit.
