Is Schoonmaker playing better or just someone has to play?

Appears to be developing into an average NFL backup TE. If we get more than that it would be a win. With Ferg on the shelf there is one less person to compete with for targets so he shows a little better.

When they throw him the ball he catches it. It's very simple. He has always been able to do this.

Schoonmaker is playing better, albeit it's a low bar for him.

He's got the potential to be an "average" starting tight end, but he's a backup once Ferguson is healthy. Having said that, he's showing he can be productive enough if needed.

He’s playing better but he’s also getting more reps. Giving him 8 snaps and expecting him to show his skill set is not it. It was a dumb pick he was never going to showcase his skill behind Ferg.

Schoon's blocking is not good right now and that was his strength in college, oh well, dude can run and is making catches so McCarthy should roll with it. Good to see Schoon making plays, and here's to him shining on Thanksgiving.

Yep. And in the 2nd round, already having Fergy, you'd need someone much better than 4th rounders like Shultz/Ferguson. But Schoon wasn't and isn't it. He can be serviceable but never should've been taken in the 2nd.

Blocking isn't "suspect"...it's terrible. He wiffed for both Zeke and Cooper resulting in lost yards. Like he doesn't want to touch anyone let along mangle them.

He's getting his chance and he's taking advantage of it. Silver lining in the injury cloud, some players get a chance and rise to the challenge.
